Moderator Action Sticky 2014

Submitted by Seth on

New season means new sticky, since these get cumbrously long.

What this thread is for: It's an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

NOTE: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted (see: "cumbrously long").

Before you look for your thread:
1. Was it offensive/political/off topic?
2. Did it link to Drew Sharp, something Mike Valenti said, or Ace Williams?
3. Is there another thread in the last few days on the board that addresses the same topic?

Hall of Stickies Past:
The first, the second, the third.

Michigan Fans

Whatever you may believe, I think the boycott threads really do end up being divisive and nasty. No more, folks.

Good article about Hoke being doom from the start of his tenure

No Bleacher Report.

Cleaning up a few from the graveyard shift...

I had Pizza

Yeah, but simply saying this is not really a great thread in and of itself, unless it was a truly crazy pizza, in which case you know the rule - pics or it didn't happen.

Schlissel: "Culture change" needed in the athletic department

The comment about "culture change" from Schlissel has been up twice now since it was made, so this one can come down now.

Mods,

The thread that starts out bad enough with "For those who still don't understand the annoyance with the athletic department..." and only goes downhill from there, should be deleted.  Stuff like this only brings out people who thrive on ugliness and look for more of it to pile on.

Thank you

Let's trim some of the offerings to maximize other content....

I smell Muppets

Dave Brandon Appreciation Thread

Straight to Ricks

Impact of win on CC?

Nothing terribly offensive, but there was a CC thread of sorts and the rest could stand to go for the evening.

Morning shift....

So the offense was awful again.

Snowflake, and someone actually did create these threads while I was at the cabaret, so thanks!

#FreePeppers

I believe that the injury has been well-established on the blog. He is indeed out with an injury, so there is not much else to see here.

Now that Sparty has flipped the script and become the dominant in-state program

I think the village more or less spoke here. I honestly wasn't sure where this was going myself and neither were a lot of people, it seems.

Color me surprised, but if it was part of a massive cleaning of that thread, a necessary casualty of war, I suppose....

I don't know whether that was in the Todd Graham thread LSA cleaned up or the Bacon thread I went through, but if that's what you posted I really doubt it got deleted on its own. A William Jennings Bryan post is pretty unlikely to start a flamewar in 2014.

When a comment gets deleted all of the replies get deleted as well, if you check the email you used to sign up there should be a form email from MGoBlog saying that's a possibility.

Cold War that he is suddenly negative points?  From what I've read... his postings, when taking an unpopular view, strive for a respectful tone.  People jumped all over his recent diary post and I don't understand the hostility.

LSAClassOf2000

October 18th, 2014 at 12:50 PM ^

I found the adjustment to his points made at 1:24 PM yesterday, but no reason given. It might very well have been the diary that sent him over the edge, if I had to guess though. I didn't do the deed this time and I don't think that JGB did either though, but that diary....yeah....

You Only Live Twice

October 18th, 2014 at 2:51 PM ^

Thank you for the courtesy of a reply.  It is appreciated.   I still don't understand what made people go crazy about the diary.  Even if people disagree about his opinion, even if they disagree vehemently, does he not have the right to express an opinion or does everything have to conform to some sort of code?

I also don't get the value of the whole downvote thing.  If someone with a billion points decides to give me that -1 cause it makes them feel better, have at it.  But it tells me nothing and in this particular thread there should be an explanation.  If you don't want the thread cluttered with questions like mine say so. I'd respect that, anyone would respect that.

However... however.  One final question.  If someone chooses to delete their account does all the posting history go with it?

LSAClassOf2000

October 18th, 2014 at 6:20 PM ^

I can't really speak for whoever in fact removed that diary, but there informal parameters that have nothing to do with the content of the opinion per se. Many times, you'll see a diary which is contrarian but well-constructed and makes its point quite well and while those may get downvotes because some merely use the mechanism for anything they don't like, it will also get respect even from its detractors.

Having now read the diary entry again, I dare say it didn't really meet the parameters / standards of something that should have been in the diary section (again, it's more about how you say it, not always what you say there).

As for the other question, if a user is caved, then their account and posts both disappear. If someone is merely blocked, they cannot posts but their history remains.

The mods will take down a diary or send it to the board if there was an error or there's something really obviously wrong with leaving it up, but LSA and I leave all of the editorial judgements abot diaries to Seth, and from what I remember BiSB is also really hands off there. That said, I agree with moving it to the board (whoever did, it wasn't me or LSA). Generally speaking a diary needs to contain some new information and be significant to understanding a subject, and anything that doesn't should probably be a forum topic. There's a reminder about that when you click to create a diary.

If Ramona is talking about herself, the only real way to delete an account is to ask a mod to cave it. I hope you stick around, though.

There are two threads which are not going very well and probably will continue to not go well just based on the reaction they are getting for the most part....

ND loss Schadenfreude

What ever happened to the Big Ten I used to know?

At 29 downvotes and descending, I think this is another CC thread that has run its course when it comes to the usefulness of the replies and it would be difficult to salvage anyway...

CC: Any Chance John Harbaugh comes to UM and keeps Brady on Staff with Mattison?

LSAClassOf2000

Jim Harbaugh Recruiting at UM, and assistants....

To paraphrase a line from the movie "Dragnet"..."These threads seemed merely irritating at first, but were quickly gaining notoriety through their growing freuquency and naked brazenness..."

Wolverine fans want it more than the UM players?

Basically a comment on the thread containing quotes from Funchess currently on the first page. This could have easily gone in there.

Rules and how the up/down voting works?

I noticed that when I am negged, I lose points. Yet, I see others get negged and they do not.

Am I that disliked here or am I just uninformed?

Let's all talk about how posts are cool. Posts have swag. I'd like it if posts were actually titled with reference to what's in the thread, and not just some player's name you want to talk about.

We look stupid when a bunch of people criticize Brandon's tenure at Domino's and get key facts incorrect. I've let the threads stick but it's getting ridiculous, and there are not enough people with knowledge of the pizza business around to refute falsehoods properly.

Since it's super OT just gonna nix the thread this time. DB's old business isn't off limits because his success there absolutely has informed his approach to Michigan, but considering all the calls to fire him from the board and this site in general I'd like to at least be able to say we didn't encourage false crap like "Domino's is so great now that he's gone"  to be attached to him.

Edited it because crazy speculation from misunderstood context, and I find speculation on players who won't be here next year distasteful.

Or if you can even see this, but something is wrong with my account.  I can post here, but it doesn't look like they show up a on the board.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We're gonna start reporting them officially tonight...

How are you dulling the pain?

We'll keep the other drinking thread.

Kiffin-style firing is in order

There's already a thread which kind of sort of is discussing this.

CC: "A Michigan man will coach Michigan!"

Again, there's a thread discussing the merits / disadvantages of an immediate change of course.

CC: Something Lloyd Carr once said

Not sure this one really has a bearing and direction, as it were.

Minor cleanup of mainly redundant material....

Photo: Joe Bolden with the "spear" (stake)

SIAP: bolden stake video

There was still a thread about this on the front page, so please put any media regarding it in there.

Sorry - thought it was just awesome that he was... existing

Not sure what this one was about, but it was apparently unpopular.

Dear Pres. Schlissel

While there was nothing terrible about this one, we'll hold off for more substantive criticisms which will undoubtedly appear later today. This was more a "Fire Brandon" snowflake, which...I think most are in agreement and we'll get flooded with it today anyway, I bet.

John U - DB Broke Michigan Athletics

This made it to the board on Friday.

I guess I don't understand why a thread with more than a hundred responses about the spear incident is "redundant." I understand wanting to clean up the front page and all, but the spear thread and the photo thread were pretty much two separate discussions, both of which had evolved on their own.

There are plenty of threads criticizing Hoke and even getting into poking fun at some things he's done, but this is the "365 day calendar of dumb things [politician you don't like] has said" equivalent of MGoBoard.

I'm not saying anyone is trying to get malicious, but the more personal and further removed from football a thread is the more it's going to turn nasty.

Petty post is petty, and sadly NTP.

If you're tempted to make a thread to do nothing but ridicule a guy, maybe take a second to think of someone doing the same about a job you or someone close to you was fired from. I get that it's really high profile and we all care a lot, but Hoke is a person too.
