Moderator Action Sticky 2014

New season means new sticky, since these get cumbrously long.

What this thread is for: It's an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

NOTE: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted (see: "cumbrously long").

Before you look for your thread:
1. Was it offensive/political/off topic?
2. Did it link to Drew Sharp, something Mike Valenti said, or Ace Williams?
3. Is there another thread in the last few days on the board that addresses the same topic?

Hall of Stickies Past:
The first, the second, the third.

Doing a little minor cleanup now that I am sober and can comprehend things right now...

A few of these fall a bit below the snowflake bar (which is high for now), either because they are well-covered in other threads or we've left venting threads for these things up already:

Though the head coach is incompetent, Gardner is a MAJOR part of the issue

Devin Gardner is not a pro style QB

Poor Special Teams On the Punt Return for TD (Also a good indicator that we should go to the spread punt formation)

Time to ditch the current offensive play book

How about Dan Mullen?

I politely disagree on the Punt Return thread.  While the others are variations on the general frustration meme on coaching that one accurately pointed out we only had 10 players on the field during the return.  Not sure why that had to be taken down - I think that's a pretty big deal given what happened and would've generated a lot of discussion once people woke up and saw it.

To keep the number of threads about this, that and the many other things manageable, we're going to take down a few which sort of run into existing conversations in the first couple pages:

Show Cause Penalties

Not sure if the suggestion of Tressel will be accused of much more than trolling.

New Coach Vision?

Bielema? Has it come to this?

The Sobering Truth

Between some spot factual errors and the fact that this thread isn't doing anything which hasn't been covered in numerous other threads which were left selectively, yeah...

QB and Hoke

Covered in numerous other threads, so this can probably go.

Would You Take the Michigan Job if You Were a Top Candidate?

Not particularly offensive, but if we're going to speculate, this might be an unrealistic road.

Best time to fire Hoke is now, after the ignominy

I left it up so people could vent a little more, but it seemed like it was doomed from the beginning. The tribe spoke too.

Now that the blog is back up, I think there might be another round of cleanup, this time of "proposed solution" threads that didn't go or likely won't go as the OP intended.

Peppers to Offense??

Morris should start at this point

Michigan by the numbers...

It came down once before because there were plenty of reminders on the board that the recent past has been...not up to the expectations many of us traditionally have held, I'll put it politely. It comes down again because I really don't want to have this sort of fight with a poster.

META: The Side Board Works! - NOT

Yeah, sadly it isn't quite there yet, although I have had marginally better luck with it during lower traffic periods. Unscientific observation, of course.

Tired of where this program is heading?

I'm not publishing peoples' addresses and phone numbers for irate fans to yell at. If they want to, they can do their own leg work.

If Brian or Seth have a problem with the modding on this site, I'm sure they'll either say something or find new mods. Until then, I don't think it's too much to ask to just be generally civil.

Someone saying "hey this is probably no good" has usually gotten a thank you for years at this point. If you think this is me overreacting, fine, but I don't think I need to be answering a "how long will this stay up" question from anyone other than Brian or Seth.

This thread is staying up because despite your claims to the contrary it was confirmed true.

Be careful what we wish for...

No offense to  the OP, but there are plenty of threads for this on the first few pages by now. At some point, enough really is enough with these sorts of threads. We left quite a few to try and stem the tide of further threads, so please read over other threads before posting these things.

Don't Go to the "game" this weekend

I go to bed a bit early (for me) and, yeah, this thread probably ended precisely as you might think. As we've established in other threads, a lot of folks around here are a bit more engaged than to sink to a level where burning tickets, as the OP suggested, would even be a consideration.

Rich Rodriquez for next Michigan HC

The playful trolling is fine now and again, but I think the Lane Kiffin one might be all we can handle right now, and I am not sure some are handling it too well even at that.

Hoke for Head Coach

There is only one man for the job(s)

I know people are venting, trying to be funny, but we do need to try and not clutter the board too much more than we already have with such things.

DG To Wide Receiver?

I don't know that this is going to go the way the OP thinks - it's been discussed at length, I believe, every time Gardner has had a less-than-stellar game.

LSAClassOf2000

I am taking this down as I don't know that this is quite significant enough for another thread:

More bad news for Dave Brandon

It seems like the Coca-Cola fiasco was very well-publicized and discussed at length last night.

Kickstarter for skywriting

Opinion was largely split in this thread, but I dare say that it was not nearly as popular as the OP might have believed it would be, and indeed, he changed the tone of it. Still, I don't know that it is partiularly constructive to embark on such a thing.

Suppress all discourse by removal (effectively, censorship).

There was no discussion of politics or religion.  It was completely on-topic.  Controversial and provocative, perhaps.  Not entirely inappropriate, considering the past actions of the AD.  If anything, a medium for fans to voice their varying opinions about the AD and what should be done.

This is over-moderation, and the reason why I (personally) don't care to contribute to the board as often.  It's unfortunate.

GoWings2008

a case of too much controversy/discourse on the board in general.  It seems like the mood of the board at the moment is, shall we say, somewhat negative and possibly we don't need anymore fuel on this fire.  Censorship?  I don't agree.

Over-moderation is a matter of opinion, but its a tough job and letting something go further than it should brings criticism.  And taking something down before it gets out of control brings the same reaction.

I would pick Shane

I think thr 47 downvotes probably indicate where this discussion was going to go. Actually, in the case of this particular topic, where it was going to go again...still. We've discussed this several times across several threads which are still in the first few pages.

know what happened to a post I made a little while ago?  It was titled "News from around the B1G" and I didn't think it was something that would warrant taking down.  If it was I apologize, but just trying to see what happened.  Thanks.

EDIT:  Nevermind, I found it.

Hey, I just sent the mods an email, but was this the day that my mgopoints were going to be screwed up in the coding after the incident last month? Honestly, I can't remember posting anything remotely offensive (in fact, I didn't really post much at all yesterday afternoon or evening, IIRC), and I didn't get any emails saying anything was deleted. Thanks.

Former OL on coaching staff: "these guys are jokes"

If there were more to it than the secondhand story on SuperFan's YouTube feed, maybe this ends differently, but to my recollection, no one of note has given an interview on his "program", if it can be called that. Since there is no first-hand or more credible information, this has to go.

The way out of this darkness.

Similar sentiments have been expressed across multiple threads which were left up, so this one can come down, I think. I am as upset as anyone really, but we do need to still consider the question of "threadworthy" vs. "am I simply agreeing with what has been posted?".

How Much $$ Will You Pony Up?

I rather feel that this probably could go into one of the other coaching threads left up, but also it seems that we've discussed numerous "creative" measures to make an unlikelihood a likelihood this week regarding Harbaugh.

A call for calm

Posts which, right now, are going to cause in-fighting by calling out others probably don't need to be on the board. I understand that there are still several schools of thought - "calm", "rage", etc... - but let's not make conscious attempts to be divisive right now.

These two are going to spiral downward in an ugly way very quickly...

Let's think this out for a second...

as well as...

"A couple of facts regarding Hokes' contract"

Again, there are many threads going on the first few pages were these could have easily been posted.

And then this...

Hoke: worst coach in M history?

Framed as a function of winning percentage as the OP suggested, the answer is clearly "no", as others demonstrated very quickly.
