Moderator Action Sticky

Submitted by Zone Left on

Brian has requested that instead of deleting each individual comment in the Moderator Action Sticky, that we instead just create a new thread. It takes hours of less time, preserves the comments for future explanations, and just clears things up faster.

You'll notice that the previous thread is now locked, and will slowly fade back into darkness. For the time being, the link from the Useful Stuff menu will point to the wrong location. We're working on a fix for that.

This thread is an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

NOTE: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted.

(Most) people behaved remarkably well, but I'm out for the day, so I'm gonna pull the thread lest it implode.

Kudos on the lack of flamebait. The nice things may be, some day, within our grasp.

But wasn't he supposed to be monitored? On the front page he's calling someone a tool-

http://mgoblog.com/comment/reply/71181/1684967

And while I don't love Tater or anything, he said nothing to deserve the same calling. Then he's name calling Brian-

http://mgoblog.com/comment/reply/71181/1684970

Which I know Brian tries to never bomb someone for disagreeing with him, but it's not really showing you're feeling sorry and heeding hte warning by doing this. No regret or remorse. Do Brian the favor by bringing the ban hammer for him.

I don't say this just because I don't like what he says; everyone knows Section 1 and I butt heads every ten minutes, but I'd never (seriously) call for his ban. We all lose our cool on occasion, but there's a difference between that and zero value added. And frankly, it's kind of makes the site look worse because it shows the permissiveness AA.com allows in its posts. Other teams' trolls are annoying. our own team's trolls are embarrassing.

but can any of the mods explain why there has been no moderator action on these posts (among others on this thread)?

Many users have faced point reductions affecting their ability to edit any of the "trusted user" topics, post diaries and MGoBoard posts, ect. or faced a ban on commenting for using the same type of "cute nicknames" Brian warns against in his Official MGoBlog Pet Peeve List. I'm wondering why a user is allowed to say "Walverines" twice in a comment, post modified quotes about the 1968 Democratic Convention or gay marriage and not have any repercussions on the board. I'm trying not to get into my opinion on the topic, but can I have a black and white ruling on what posts/nicknames are okay and which aren't?

OT - Name My Son

1) Congratulations, and good luck. I'm expecting my first in November. Well, my wife is. I'm expecting her to deliver a child, though, so I suppose I'm expecting.

2) No OT from this point on

3) Not sure about the first name, but Fergodsakes is a damn fine middle name.

Removing that thread was outrageous.  That family is screwed now.  I doubt the child will even have a name -- he'll probably just turn into some kind of sociology experiment where we see what happens when a human being has no natural way to refer to himself.

Plus, selfishly, I was really hoping that he'd go for my suggestion of [first name: "Turd"] [middle name: "named after Turd Ferguson"] [last name: "Ferguson"].

Not OT because wolverines are awesome.

Much like saying "I'm a virgin because it doesn't count if he has a tiny penis," just because you say it doesn't mean the rest of us have to agree.

Something about dirty Penn State joke t-shirts.

Also, searching for a bar in D.C. -- try the Michigan Bar Locator under the MGoBoard tab! There are several suggestions!

Also, The Song "I Love You Den....EDIT: Who is ISMELLSEXY?

Also, Alabama Recruiting Tool.

Yet another poster for the stockades. Neg-bombed for the 2012 season; points return in 2013.

User said he searched but I tried every conceivable combination of things you might search for with this story and each time the board notice comes up.

Keeping the mod thread clean is cool, and it's what's supposed to be done.  I just didn't want all the people negging the poor guy to think he was just pulling that out himself. (Reference, yo!)

You should know I hate those guys....

WHAT? I JUST SPENT 1.5 HOURS COMPILING A COMPREHENSIVE LIST OF INFORMATION ABOUT OUR 2008 SIGNING CLASS IN ORDER TO POLITELY SHED LIGHT ON AN ISSUE THAT IS FREQUENTLY DISCUSSED ON THIS BOARD AND IMPROVE MY OWN THREAD, ONLY TO HAVE IT DELETED IN THE NAME OF MAIZE AND BLUE IGNORANCE AND BLIND ASTERISK-HUGGING CENSORSHIP?

OH MY FREAKING GOD!

I PLAY BALL THE WAY YOU GUYS WANT WITH GREAT INFO AND SPECIFIC EXAMPLES, AND YOU DISMISS IT BLIDNLY.  MICHIGAN MEN CARE NOTHING ABOUT THE TRUTH, ONLY THE SOUNDS OF THEIR OWN VOICES AS THEY SPEW HOT, IGNORANT AIR.  I HAD RESPECT FOR YOUR FANBASE.  I NO LONGER DO.  WHAT AN INCREDIBLE JOKE!  YOU PEOPLE SO BLINDLY HOLD TO YOUR IGNORANCE AND CENSORSHIP THAT YOU ARE ACTUALLY EVIL.  EVIL, EVIL PEOPLE.  I'M DONE.  GOOD DAY.

SEE YOU ON SATURDAY!  HOLD TO YOUR FAKE OVERSIGNING ASTERISK.  THE REST OF CFB LAUGHS AT YOU FOR IT.

I read the initial article and I agree with ZL: there was no new information here. His gist was "LOIs are not scholarships" and that "it's different in the South" because many of the kids who sign LOIs don't end up making it to Bama. He vastly overstated the number of non-qualifiers and those who get drafted to play baseball the following spring to make his point, and failed to address the key points of dramatic medical hardship over-use, very high transfer attrition from the bottom of the depth chart, or the big kahuna: that it creates a situation where the coach HAS to have 15 or so guys "choose baseball" every year, etc., therefore creating a situation where the coach isn't acting in his players' best interests.

From a more established poster, okay, I might let this slide as discussion, however this user has been beating this particular drum before, and is far more interested in having his say than having a discussion.

Considering that and his reaction (an all-caps board post that broke not-Godwin's Law), this is a pretty clear-cut banhammer. If other Bama fans want to come here and have an open debate on the topic of oversigning, that is very welcome. This particular user is not.

A while back, he was complaining about being downvoted in the Mod Action Thread and I specifically told him not to try and win an oversigning argument here. At best, that thread would have dissolved into everyone on the board ganging up on him and him writing increasingly angry posts. Personally, I didn't care about the rationale (although it was pretty pathetic).

Strangely enough, he got more slack than I would probably have given a Michigan fan. I want the opposite opinion here and really like the commentary of some of the OSU, ND, and MSU posters.

He called us Nazis a couple of times already. I don't know if we would put up with that level of shit from a long time member/Michigan fan. For a short-timer who will probably be gone in a week anyway, drop the hammer with great anger.
