Moderator Action Sticky

Submitted by Zone Left on

Brian has requested that instead of deleting each individual comment in the Moderator Action Sticky, that we instead just create a new thread. It takes hours of less time, preserves the comments for future explanations, and just clears things up faster.

You'll notice that the previous thread is now locked, and will slowly fade back into darkness. For the time being, the link from the Useful Stuff menu will point to the wrong location. We're working on a fix for that.

This thread is an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

NOTE: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted.

One guy got one month penalty box for troll behavior. Nothing wrong with criticizing Ace--responses to your responses need work. User has contributed productively in the past so no hammer.

Deleted a piece of the responses where people were getting political about the national registry. I think folks on the blog know where to find it if they so desire, so the only thing it was doing here was acting as a political lightning rod.

RDT - Ty Isaac Update per your Sources?

For the last time, people: "has anyone heard anything specific about [person of general interest]?" Is NOT a thread.

People post new threads when Ty Isaac chooses a breakfast cereal. If anyone hears anything, we'll let you know. We promise.

Not even close. Try any Saturday when the football team loses for proof--and that doesn't count the threads we delete. Specifically, try the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Brian actually repealed free speech to slow down the traffic.

Things that happened today that are news:

  1. Major metropolitan newspaper that continues to employ (!) Drew Sharp had a snarky beat reporter who tried find a way to spin 5th-seeded MSU's baseball tourney bid into something
  2. Editor discovered it and changed it because it suggested SEC has a hockey team
  3. This was posted on the board
  4. This was removed from the board
  5. Somewhere in America, an argument was started about Will Gholston.

Third time is a charm?  Nah, not unless the charm is an ear necklace from 'Nam.

[Edit:  Upon review, it appears as though the original "Mr. Trololo has passed away" was unpublished for some reason and the first one was about him being in a coma.  Although it seems a bit superfluous since most of the discussion will be redundant from the first thread, I'm going to republish this one since its technically new news.  My bad.]

I know Bleacher Report is terrible, but...

No. No "but." You can't just preface a thread with an acknowledgement of the terribleness and then proceed with the terribleness. You don't see physicists writing papers that start "I know perpetual motion is technically impossible, but..."  You don't see lawyers lead opening statements with "My client is definitely guilty, but..."

There is no "but." NO BLEACHER REPORT.

OT - The Evil of Sandusky and Others

I know, it's relevant-ish. But for now, I'm gonna pull it. The finer points of crime and punishment, and of rape and counter-rape, are not the best point of discussion for a sports blog.

Hello: posts are a bad place to be testing the boundaries of the boobage rules. They come in the middle of weekdays and folk who would save analysis for when they get home will want to instantly read up on the newest Wolverine.

Deleted a couple that I thought crossed over the line.

OT- Late Late Show bucknuts

I know it's the off-season, but "Ohio State fan flubs audience interaction on talk show" is dangerously close to the shark. No jumping the shark.

I've met two MSU players who were laughably misinformed about Michigan's offense or defensive schemes (Norton thought we ran a 3-4, a tight end believed we don't use tight ends), but this was taking a quote way out of context.

I am hot, sticky, had to throw out my favorite ice cream, and all the niceness that usually keeps me from insta-banning people who badmouth Wilcher acolytes is as gone as the people who badmouthed recruits today are now gone. Sucks to be anyone badmouthing recruits today.

We relax the rules for OT: local pro teams because VERLANDER and because we're big sports fans. And we relax the rules for OT: Kate Upton because KATE UPTON (and she's a Michigan fan). However the NO CELEBRITY GOSSIP WHAT THE HELL SITE DO YOU THINK THIS IS? rule needs a stern reminder.

Work was tearing me up the last week of June, we went on vacation last week, and now we are frantically searching for a place to live now that we're under contract to sell our home (without having even listed it for sale!!).  In other words, I've been and will probably continue to be a worthless moderator for a couple of more weeks.  1,000 lashes are in order, plus a huge negbang.  Sorry I'm not pulling my weight, fellas.

(P.S.  Note the new, temporary tagline . . . )

OT: Iranian nukes hacked with ACDC

So much political debate. Once again, the intersection of "things we can have" and "nice things" is the null set.

Fall practice starts on August 6th. Fall practice starts on August 6th. Fall practice starts on August 6th.  Fall practice starts on August 6th. Fall practice starts on August 6th. Fall practice starts on August 6th. Fall practice starts on August 6th. Fall practice starts on August 6th. Fall practice starts on August 6th. Fall practice starts on August 6th. Fall practice starts on August 6th. Fall practice starts on August 6th. Fall practice starts on August 6th. Fall practice starts on August 6th.

Repeating it really does help.

Zone Left,

I found it pretty ridiculous that the Chris Armstrong thread was immediately locked.  That was one of the biggest stories of many's time at UM and even a significantly important one.

There's no politics.  We should be able to discuss that issue as it brought out a lot of what is good at the University of Michigan - a President defending a student, students of many viewpoints standing as one, etc.

If a person or two cannot behave like adults, then deal with them - you don't have to ruin it for the rest of us.

But in practice, I'm with ZL on this one. I just got home, looked at the board, saw the thread title, and thought to myself, "Godwin, have mercy on us."

This topic has been discussed in the past, and has predictably produced some spirited discussion. And if this was mid-afternoon, sure, what the hell, I'd babysit the thread. But if we leave that thread unattended overnight, history tells me that we will awaken to comments like "Goddamn Kyrgyzstan had it coming" and "the gays cause unemployment."

Us : nice things :: Ahab : white whales

You hit my reasoning on the head. I left it up because it is relevant to the University, but I locked it because:

  • I think those topics bring out the worst in some people
  • Said people are always actively posting at 2am
  • No mods are up at 2am to stop the flame war
