The OP is lucky you got to it first. I saw the thread up on the Board before I got to work and was all ready to drop the hammer only to find it gone when I arrived. Oh, JGB, you kind and gentle moderator.
Disgruntled former moderator. I got a lot of problems with you people!
Not a good thread idea. Maybe bust it out for the snowflake thread.

One word OP's are terrible ideas, always.

Next truly awful OP is getting docked points, this is ridiculous.

Predictably, this didn't end well.

I missed this at first - only glanced at it without reading it closely. Thanks to ChopBlock for pointing it out. OP, stay classy. Don't be THAT guy that makes us all look like d-bags (e.g. don't use "whoreshoe" as a tagline).
Disgruntled former moderator. I got a lot of problems with you people!
You should know better, OP. You're one of the elders. Also, why just boys? Don't girls get to put the loss behind them? Why should they have to stew about it while the boys get to move on? Doesn't seem fair and, to be honest, it seems downright sexist.

Yeah...

Ugh... not sure what the policies are for deporting a guy for just being a general asswipe, but if it's possible, this guy sure deserves his ticket to Sucre:

But what's up with the formatting of this guy's posts lately?

but since it was a guy who (to my knowledge) has had any problems in 3+ years I chalked it up to technical problems somewhere down the line that he'd sort out as soon as he could. It looks like it's fixed now, anyway.

Lack of analysis makes this a snowflake, posted into the postgame thread.

The Mgoblue Special Olympics auction started this morning, but I hesitate to post a thread. I remember that some of the auction threads last year didn't go over so well. Just seeing if it was alright to post. Here is the link if anyone was curious.
Unless the auction is like "Center Ice sells his action figure collection" or "support kitten murder" or something, it should be fine to post in moderation. Seth said something a while back about this not becoming a charity board and we should keep that in mind, but it's not like there have been a ton of these lately.
If we're making up board rules, I can't think of any MGoBlue stories that would actually be bad posts (maybe just some boring ones), so make a thread on anything reasonable from the official site.
"We bring you to Michigan to take care of Michigan; your job is to protect that block M."
-Carol Hutchins
I'm more lax about it during OT season. Anyone doing a charity is not okay but charities the athletic department is actively involved in are always going to be okay because they're useful to the readers who are interested in things like buying old gear or meeting the coaches, etc.
The reason the MGoBlue charities get nutso sometimes is because MGoBlue charities are nutso lately. It's an open secret that there's been some nasty internal politics going on between charity organizers and the athletic department.

In the 11W-3rd-Year-Michigan-Coaches thread, poster CoastalElite summed up one of my chief reservations about this site in one post: (http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/michigan-coaches-their-3rd-year-eleven-warri...)
I couldn't agree any more. I post this in the moderator action sticky thread because I saw how justingoblue had to remove multiple Kate Upton SI posts because the readership was a little bit too excited to break the word about our "official mascot". That wouldn't happen on 11W, or thewolverine, or wolverinenation (maybe RCMB but they have some silly threads over there), but it is oddly encouraged on this board to beat certain things to death. I sometimes don't even open otherwise pertinent threads because I know an intergalactic recruiting, where's the threat?, uncommittable offer, or any of the other countless horribly redundant jokes will be out in full force.
Can anything be done? I for one am perfectly content with OT season being "slow" if the trade off isn't having silly posts and threads clutter the board. I visit the board for insight and analysis and news and intelligent discourse, and while understand that a sense of community is inherent due to us all being fans and alumni of the same team/school/institution, it can be intimidating to new posters and a turn off to those returning that there is a pervasive cliquey groupthink dynamic. You can be an individual with an opinion...for as long as you can agree that Kate Upton is a goddess and Fred Jackson jokes are hilarious and that there is an opportunity to ask"so you're saying we still have a chance?" in every thread.
I use Kate Upton as exhibit A for I've seen posters question everybody's infatuation with her, only to be marked -1:trolling while everybody is 5:normal for telling the rare dissenter that they are "not American" or "need their eyes checked" or their girlfriend wouldn't stack up well in comparison. It turns into an online version of smear the queer.
I'd have stopped lurking and signed up for an account much sooner and posted at a more natural rate if it weren't for fear of being negged to "Bolivian" for not adapting to the party line.
Seth or Brian may be able to address this further but I know that I and JGB do our best to keep things as "professional" as possible. This is a discussion board, though, and the community is full of all sorts of characters - from those who only post in .gifs (one of my favorites) to those that only log in to troll. Its not all that much different from society in general but for the fact that the love of Michigan sports unites us all.
I think a bit of what annoys you will always be present in the Board (on any other website and in any society in general) but all the moderators definitely do our best to make all members feel as comfortable and welcome as possible. I, for one, am quick to jump on personal attackers and let them know what they are doing is not welcome here. It doesn't win me many admirers, I fear, but hopefully the victims appreciate it and the Board as a whole respects that we're keeping the site as member-friendly as possible.
(P.S. Don't think twice about the ratings your comments get. Unless looking back you see yourself truly being a troll or flamer, I think you can rest easily knowing that your good point was made and digested in general. Sometimes the posts that get the most negative feedback are the ones that people need to read the most. Shrewd readers know this and actually seek out the lowest rated comments in threads.)
Disgruntled former moderator. I got a lot of problems with you people!
The board has been exceedingly bad the last few weeks. Freep links, jewel heists stories, random 5-stars announcements, etc. The best article thing this week other than the Ace/Seth/Brian material was the Ramzy link. That's a weak week on mgoblog.
We appreciate your feedback. Sounds to be more of a lack of material in general than poor moderating work to me but we'll keep working hard.
Disgruntled former moderator. I got a lot of problems with you people!
I just put up like 1200 words about a guy getting hit in the groin.
BiSB it is funny and related to current sports though - specifically two of our biggest basketball foes.
When there is national OT news or whatever that affects a lot of users that's one thing, but if the jewel heist thread is ok, then what isn't ok besides politics and religion? Hell I'm going to go get random stories off of AOL and start posting links in new threads.
I know I sound like an old curmudgeon but there is OT stuff, and then there is OT stuff. I'll stop bitching now. Have a nice day.
Double post.

Any chance a mod could reach out to clearEyesFullHart and provide him with my email address? He offered to send some mgohandmedowns on my HELLO post for the twins, but I have no real way to contact him. My email is miami nemo at gmail dot com ....
but I tried to get your email into his inbox and was rejected. I'm going to need him to give an alternate email or let me know about some setting that I may have triggered to get my email bounced back before I can do anything else, sorry.

Gorram Columbus radio station saying they got a rumor from MGo so I'm killing this thread. In the future make sure to write "Rumor: " or "Completely Unverified Rumor:" or "Just Speculating, What If..." so that stupid people who browse our message boards for news fodder don't mistake us missing a badly titled thread for tacit approval of a rumor.

OT: Put your couches inside your double-wides Buckeye fans... Sparty is about to go down! EDIT: Light 'em up, Sparty goes down!
This isn't meant to discourage future discussion of the Big Ten title hunt or the implications of MSU losing to OSU, but the OP fit better in the MBB open thread. On top of that, the title, OP and comments were all a mess to varying degrees and didn't look salvageable. If someone wants to make a new thread without trying to get cute with nicknames for opposing coaches and then flaming the comments, go for it.

This memorandum shall serve as a formal request for enhanced moderator powers to include, but not be limited to, the ability to transmit viruses to the computers of flamers and trolls that participate in open threads and post-game loss threads. The display of numerous posters last night was both embarrassing and infuriating. TWIS would have been salivating. Thanks in advance for your consideration.

I posit that people cannot be held responsible for the things they write in a basketball thread while giving Penn State its only Big Ten win of the season, or immediately after. If they go racist or homophobe ban them forever, otherwise just keep it contained within the disaster area.
You can always lock the thread and hide the messages late at night after they'll all spent their anger.
