Per the twitterz. Longshot from the start, but at least now there is definitely room for everyone to come back.

Mo Bamba commits to Texas
He already played for Smart. And there was a lot of smoke on the internet that it was down to Kentucky and Texas.
This means Michigan will play against him (assuming he's healthy) this coming season.

Bummer, but hopefully this is a good sign for DJ coming back.
Seems like a fine young man. Wish him well.
Never really expected him to come to Michigan, but it would've been awesome.
Beilein is very good basketball college basketball coach, salesmenship wise in recruiting he is one of the worst power 5 coaches. Inexcusable to get in on bamba as late as he did.
is hyperbole. He has not shown to one of the best but "one of the worst" is not supportable.
Odds this won't be the last Beilein can't recruit post you make?
Recruiting rankings? Honestly dude what would get your pecker harder? A final 4 or a 5* star Recruit?
...the other elite eight teams had a good number of 5 star and 4 star talent. College BB recruiting rankings are not fools gold.
If you're going to have guys leave early, you need high level talent coming in that can contribute right away and balance out the attrition. Or else you'll run into our condundrum. A 1-2 year run with a team with Final Four aspirations sandwiched around 2-3 other years where we're lucky to make it to the round of 64.

maizen is the worst kind of troll, because he isn't even funny or clever. 2 guys trying out for the nba and this shit stain still bitches about JB lol.

Michigan has a very good shot at Jerome Hunter. Wouldn't surprise one bit if he ends up as a McDs AA.
Never forget that Tyler Lewis was once a McDonald's All American.
Who's Tyler Lewis and why is he relevant? I don't remember a commit/decommit by that name.
He's the kid who transferred from NC State to Butler. I'm not sure why he brought Lewis up. There was some distant possibility he was coming to Michigan but he ended up at Butler.
His point was that not all McDonald's All-Americans are guaranteed success. Lewis was a 5'9" shrimp from Oak Hill who never did a thing in college. He was the same year as the Fresh Five and basically was the same player as Spike, except one was nondescript 3* and the other a star-gazer's McDonald's dream.
Yeah, I'm just going to take this as a sign that both DJ and Wagner are coming back! going to be a special season! Go Blue.
can't believe we got this far down without saying it. Let's hope he was reading some tea leaves!
Please come back, DJ.
Make your return official already, Moe.
Is a more important piece to the puzzle.
Stunning news. Out of left field...
You have GOT to be kidding me. Beilein lost-out on a can't-miss one-and-done!? No way!
What I'm amazed at is this board's ability to talk ourselves into ANYTHING if the news is good enough. If somebody posts something good (but unlikely) like "Mamba definite Michigan lean" then that poster is showered with love and kisses and multiple follow-up posts will spring up with each one pushing him closer and closer to coming here. Even though we alll know it's the longest of long shots given Beilein's aversion to the "one and done" kids.
But post something negative like "Wilson & Wagner likely to enter NBA draft" and the place wants to stone the heretic for bringing bad news. Again, even though the past history of virtually every player in their situation during the Beilein era suggests they are gone.
Would you say that they are more interested in listening to "fans" bitch incessantly about their team/coach or less?
Maybe it isn't a "safe space" they want but to interact with people who aren't miserable and whiny all the time.
Don't even start. Just like there's the zippity-doo-dah crowd around here that you're complaining about, there's the Eeyore meets Chicken Little crowd (you) that complains about everything. You're both equally as annoying.
you're a "safe spacer"
Enjoy your four months of college!
Not only are the "Beilein can't close" trolls out in force despite this being the longest of long shots, but people are upvoting them. Get your shit together, MGoBlog.
I still don't understand why points are a thing around here.
It's the show of support that makes me gag.
The one guy that said "Beilein can't recruit" has like 12 downvotes. So I'm not exactly sure what you are talking about.
Is this a pre-emptive comment?
And one of Maizen's posts had zero negs at one point.
Systems where you can like a comment if it's good, or leave it alone if it sucks.
The whole MgoBlog point system is just freaking stupid, because too many people aren't trying to be themselves and be honest and only want to be clever to get upvotes.
Tommy Amaker as a coach? I think he pulled in some bigger names. Because I went to school when he was a coach, and I was a season ticket holder during that time. I would rather be hanging banners then making and missing the NIT
Sometimes you make points that I agree with, and I consistently think you are unnecessarily negged, but your logic of "I went to Michigan and am a season ticket holder" so I can say whatever awful point I want and not care about my reception is flawed and shows the entitlement and arrogance that all Michigan fans are generalized into.
The worst kinds of conversations tend to be with people who only care about what they have to say. You don't make points on a blog to just say them, you say them to see if other people agree or disagree with you and to have a further discussion. I don't know at what point this entire mantra of "Maizen vs. the world" started for either side of the coin, but comments like "I really have nothing to say or prove to anyone who has a problem with me" is only instigating things further instead of bringing things back to the civilized discussion that you claim to want. Just my two cents, not that you care, I'm sure.
I don't think most rational people on this blog have a problem with a negative opinion on things. Yes, there will always be people who like being homers and will neg away anyone who gives a contrary opion, and based on the history with you, I'm sure you will continue to get more than the average person. I can see how that can be frustrating and I understand how you may just say "fuck it" and take on a you vs. the world mentality.
For most however, if you simply went about it in a way that you made your point, but did so without making it seem like you are attacking either our coach, our teams, or other fans, people would pay more attention to what you are saying rather than ignore the point and concentrate on you "trolling".
I am like you. I think Beilien is one of the best coaches in the country, but often find myself wishing he recruited better, or at least tried to get more solid players from high school then trying to make diamonds from coal. And we are not alone. There are many respected posters on this board who criticize aspects of Michigan athletics, I just think your common theme of getting defensive and using sarcasm to take jabs at people rubs people the wrong way and maybe you would be better off biting the bullet and concentrating on the point you are trying to make instead of embarking on these 20 comment battles every time you make a point. Eventually, the heat will die down and we will have more positive discussion.
I am not telling you that you are in the fault for everything, I would also be bothered by some of the things that are said to you. But I never see you acknowledge when you are in the wrong for what you say, and because you respond to every bit of trolling about you, your misgivings are more pronounced than others.
Everything just seems to come back to a defensive mode of you without acknowledging that you could be wrong and hurtful yourself. You can't tell me you are surprised that you receive negative attention when you say things and call people "losers", "idiots", "afraid to leave their safe spaces" "shit heel", "can't even read", and that's just over the last few days based on your comment history.
I'm sure you are as sick of all of this talk about your "trolling" and dickish nature as everyone else is. Your past responses have deflated your level of respect around here to an alarmingly low rate, which creates biases against you that may not be fair, but as long as you continue to engage in the trolling against you in every thread, it will just continue and probably get worse. Why not just ignore it and concentrate on the actual points until you start to get some respect back?
Before you alienate another person who was not trying to start shit with you but genuienly trying to help this endless fight that you keep having, let me try and clear up my position.
You clearly care. You are not kidding anyone by saying that you don't. If you truly did not care, you would not retort in such a defensive manner any time someone insulted you, you would ignore the comments and focus on the point, which you claim is what you want. Also, if you did not care, you would not make so many comments about the negging.
I also believe that you have a clear misunderstanding of why you are disliked. You continually say things like "people don't like their safe space disrupted" as the reasoning for why you get sent to Bolivia, but that is missing the point altogether. It has nothing to do with what you are saying. Frankly, I assume most people no longer care about what you are saying because everyone is so concentrated on your disrespectful, poorly communicated, and sarcastic way of saying everything. Add in your complete unwillingness to take blame for anything, and it should come as no surprise that you get the reactions you do.
You say you come on here to have discussions, but you no longer have that option because your actual opinions are for the most part ignored or written off as trolling. So now you have become a guy who writes things to strangers on the internet, knowing damn well that all you will receive in return are insults which you do in fact care about. Please just take some good-hearted advice and engage in some self-evaluation to think "huh, is the reason so many people have completely turned against me completely by no fault of my own?" I will continue to read your opinions and think objectively about them, even though you are seemingly intent on making me and others have an inherent bias against that.
What makes your posts honest? Take one second to divulge this. Beilein is a great coach, but is an average to below recruiter? Do you know why some kids go to Kentucky or Duke instead? You said that you went to Michigan, so take one second to rationalize that, we have a different set of rules that our coach lives by. Thus, your subset of beliefs does not mean that your honesty is right! It's a [email protected]@!$ opinion. Just see: Ohio State's Basketball class 2014.
It debunks your recruiting is everything myth.
you had me sign in to reply to this... you don't have to comment on posts you don't agree with.
Well I for one am with you Maizen. But the first lesson in critique is you have to chortle and coddle everyone's ball sack by first paying 2 or 3 compliments before lobbing out the critique.
Meaning, I totally agree with you that Beilein has been a very disappointing recruiter relative to the power of the Michigan brand and the excellent W/L results he can present. There really is little question about it - he is not an elite recruiter.
ON THE OTHER HAND, he is also one of the best coaches in the country, is a hell of a good representative of the university, and I'm still happy to have him as my coach. (Just wish the dude could recruit better because I'm a Michigan grad, and thus I am allowed to want to have my cake and eat it too).
If negative posts were caved/lowered and positive posts highlighted/boosted, that'd be great.
Bad posts shouldn't stay where they are, they should sink and fade. Good posts should rise and fluorish.
Couldn't disagree more. Those who cut against the grain usually provide far more interesting reading than endless posts crawling up the ass of our coaches and school and collectively masturbating us all on how great we are.
I redeem my MGoBlog points for cash at my bank every month, and my favorite watering hole gives me $5 off pitchers with each 50 points.
...people have an opinion that differs from yours and you want MgoBlog to silence them?
I would just prefer that the board act less shitty. Upvoting douche posts like 99% of Maizen's tells me that the board population is douchier than I'd like.
It's utter insanity to read my post the way you did.
I'm sorry that the Mgoblog community doesn't 100% conform to your ideas. I hope a less douchy and shitty vision of MgoBlog can come from this.
Everyone in the know (not me) saw this coming.
This morning, I actually went over for the first time to look at an NBA 2017 mock draft. I didn't realize how heavily dominated the draft is by one and done guys. 22 out of 30 projected are Freshmen (along with several 19 year olds from overseas.) This is incredible. It appears very rare for seniors to go in the first round . . . I don't think there was a single guy who was a senior projected to go in the first round.
Whether or not this is a good thing, the level of play and physicality of "elite" guys is on a whole different level. At this point, I am glad to see Michigan doing well, and think they could be very good next year, with Wilson and Wagner.
I'm especially thankful we're not a tire fire similar to what is happening at Ohio State. Their program is going down in flames, and they could be near the very bottom of the Big 10. They don't have a single guy left from a "top 5" class in 2015.
The NBA seems to be going more towards potential than polished player. With the potential that these freshman have, it's easier to teach habits you want than break habits you don't. The NCAA het itself with the 1 year in college rule IMO.
I just hope whoever drafts Lonzo Ball, breaks that ugly jump shot of his.
That's not an ncaa rule, it's an NBA one.
No surprise here. The only people who really thought Michigan had a chance at Bamba were the ones telling themselves that if Wilson stays in the draft we were getting him.
In truth, Wilson, Wagner, and Bamba have nothing to do with each other, because Bamba was never coming here.
I don't understand why kids make these decisions so early, without taking the time to consider their options thoroughly.
Have you met kids?
the clear sarcasm
If you are offered a boatload of money TODAY, with no guarantee it will be there tomorrow, I certainly could see going for the sure thing today. Some of these kids are not coming from a situation where they have lots of financial security. More than that, if I could be a lottery pick, or at least a top 20 pick, the bonus money would be so good it matters a little bit less if you flame out.
That shouldn't surprise anyone. Outside of the 2012 class, Beilein's recruiting classes have always been anywhere from meh to just good. And my feeling on that is "so what"?
Beilein has proven over and over that he can find under the radar guys and make them very productive players. If not stars. He's earned the benefit of the doubt on who he recruits into the program. When they play at their best, they can compete with anyone.
It's controversial because you do it in the most dickish way possible.
Even this comment comes off as you being a dick. A whiny dick that can't take anyone disagreeing with him.
Also, I would think injuries and early entrants into the NBA has caused almost all of the inconsistency you're complaining about, but then again, I disagree with you so obviously you have to react like a petulant child. Let's hear it
+1
Your reaction is basically "it has to be everyone else." In the post of yours I was responding to, you blamed everyone for interpreting your comments wrong, took no responsibility for anything, and continue to blame people for needing a safe space while also whining about anyone who disagrees with you. If you aren't a dick, you do an awfully good job of portraying yourself as one online. To top it off, bringing up the fact you went to Michigan as much as you do makes you sound arrogant as fuck. If you are continually being berated on the internet, maybe it's time to look in the mirror rather than blaming everyone else. I can and have made many comments that people disagree with, but everything I say isn't torn apart by the entire MgoCommunity....I wonder why?
Give me a guy like Maizen who posts accurate assesments of our coach any day over snowflakes like you who write biblical ad hominem attacks elaborating on the dickish way people like him present their posts.
/Team Maizen
It's amazing that I didn't hear any of Maizen's "accurate assessments" the second half of the basketball season. He bitches about not getting McDonalds all Americans every time recruiting is brought up and completely ignores the amount of NBA draft picks Beilein has had. He doesn't even see the irony in complaining about recruiting for a coach who has regularly spit out NBA players while at Michigan.
Having early entrants to the NBA is a good thing (or at least it should be) for a program. Too often this is used as an excuse.
Find your real team and go root for them. And how do you troll so easily with ball juice around your lips. Everyday negative reflections of our teams.
Wagner announced that he has a workout with the Bucks. Maybe they think he'll be around in the mid-second round. But at any rate, Wagner still seems to be seriously weighing his options.
They've been working out with teams since the combine ended. Not really news worthy here.
The title on the Freep is beyond mis-leading. "Wagner pegged as first rounder."
Chad Ford has him as 30th because he's a potential "draft and stash" prospect, even though the people at UM Hoops said he has 0 interest in doing that.
This has been his only workout. According to the article, Detroit and one other franchise was interested in bringing him in for a workout, but that hasn't happened yet.
Not good for their NBA prospects if teams aren't even bringing him in for a workout.
Congrats to Shaka for his first ever win over Michigan
He chose the place he was most comfortable with, didn't make a spectacle of it and chose someone other than UK, Duke
We likely will never be a home for one and dones and that's fine but that's how you make a top class so we should accept that reality. Seems to have worked out okay so far.
shocker or should I say Shaka?
Bamba is a freak physically, but I see a project offensively, he's a little overrated. I could see him averaging 6 and 8 with 3 blocks a game for Texas.
He would have been a weird fit with us, but a nice problem to figure out how to use. There are some very good big men in the conference next season, would have been nice to have them have to shoot over Bamba's 7-9" wingspan.
If Wilson returns we have a chance to be better next season than this past. If Wilson leaves we better hope that Matthews and Simmons can fully replace Walton and Zak right away, or we could take a step back.
Just beat MSU.
Oh well......
Maybe Texas can crack .500 next season.
Man that sucks.
I knew we didnt have a chance, but knowing he chose Texas kind of makes it worse because it shows he was willing to snub the elite programs like UK and Duke for a lower tier program like Texas. Too bad he didnt snub em for us
Ain't over til it's over
seems like a great kid, I certainly wish him well, but I think Shaka and a legit size big (either back to the basket OR inside/outside) - I would have chosen differently.
