What the hell happens from here outside of things this organization has done before? Fire Caldwell? Mayhew? Getting rid of Lombardi doesn't do much, as this is deeper than playcalling. Does it even matter what the Lions do next, or is this team doomed for the remainder of time?

Harbaugh? No, I doubt he could even right this garbage fire. Kidding, he probably could.

It won't matter until Dan Gilbert or someone of his ilk makes Martha Firestone an offer she can't refuse. The culture of losing is so ingrained with the Ford family, nothing will ever change as long as they are in control. Tradition matters. The Lions have a tradition of losing.

seems so different that in college. Do college guys smile and laugh as much as the Lions or, for that matter, all losing pro teams after a tough loss? Can't say I see it so much. Maybe it's seeing guys you knew in college or prior teams (like Tate), but man, the Lions sure got over that one quick. Guess their mouthwash is they just got paid a couple hundred grand for this game.

Now saying Detroit was jobbed by the officials.  The ball being batted out of the EZ was a foul which should have been assessed against Seattle.  This should have put the ball at the goal line 1st and goal.

It should have been Detroit ball again, the Seahawk batted the ball out of the back of the endzone illegally. Back judge was looking right at it.

I noticed it live, and couldn't believe it wasn't called. I thought maybe the rule had changed, since I don't really follow the NFL.

that the defense can just intentionally knock the football out thru the endzone and then receive the ball at the twenty despite never gaining possession during the play. Didn't think that was legal but it shouldn't be.

EDIT: Now hearing that it is indeed an infraction to do that, which I THOUGHT on first seeing the play. How the HELL do the officials miss that if so LOL.

Even if it was not called an infraction, how can you award the ball to the defense without it ever having possession (other than 4th down, punts and kickoffs)?

How many more secret NFL rules are the Lions gonna violate?

CJ completion rule, Jim Schwartz time out rule... now this?

Im 37 and im thinking of doing smething I swore my whole life I could never do. Hear me out for a second, look at what we are facing here. ANOTHER REBUILDING PROCESS. I..I cant. I think I am going to try to route for another team. I am thinking about the Ravens. Not the best franchise but they have 2 superbowls, they made the entire city of Cleveland cry, and their coach is Harbaugh. I dunno man, I think I might be able to pul it off

they never addressed it during the game.  And shame on ESPN for not replaying the entire play.  Had they, it might have led to more review.  Who knows.

I noticed it live and thought the way the defender made a move to push the ball out of the endzone, it could have been ruled a safety.  Glad I now know the rule, but can't believe how badly the Back Judge blew it.

Regardless, the Lions are left with another loss in a way that only they can manage to lose.

Instead, ESPN is currently trying everything they can to say they have never even heard of such a rule in all of their football watching/playing lives. It was pretty awkward seeing the rules offical being questioned by the commentators...

Should have brought the teams back out as soon as the problem was recognized.  Even if they had to give them time to redress etc., the NFL could have rectified the problem.

Someone mentions the fact that when the team that possesses the ball bats the ball through the end zone it's a safety.

I think it's interesting to know it's always supposed to be a flag, but it makes sense that they eat since the defense will always take points rather than take the penalty and give the ball back.

The former NFL ref on ESPN said that change of possession was clear and would not have called for review.  If it had been ruled a TD then the Lions would've gotten the call and had the ball at the 1/4 line.  It's a very Lions' thing.  Technicalities mean everything and technically they always lose on them.

Fumble out of the EZ is a change of possession.  Seattle didn't need to touch it to gain possession.  That's clear enough for me.

It was not a good call.  It f'ed the Lions.  The Lions get f'ed.  It's kinda their thing. They're the only NFL team I follow.

*I edited this post.

I assumed that was another of thise rules the nfl overthought and screwed up. It's a safety when a punter does it. It's the fumbling teams ball if never recovered. So if either outcome was the rule then the lions would eitger have the ball at the 1 or get kicked to bc of the safety. I'd never seen a team gain possession without you know gaining possession.
