I think he is right, but he is talking about the casual fan. The fans here on mgoblog are mostly die hard fans who analyze just about everything. We are looking for team and player development, but we also are the minority of football fans.

I'm not saying we don't care about wins and losses, but in a year like this I think there plenty of fans, even more casual ones, who will understand the importance of improvement even if it's not reflected as much in the record.

I've been sayings since Harbaugh was hired that wins and losses are a secondary concern this season. Actual improvement over the course of the season is paramount. Now, the team becoming more fundamentally sound will directly lead to improved records and position in the standings. We can't have much of the latter without the former. Harbaugh demands the former, and he will bring about the latter by doing so.

We play to win the game, right coach Edwards?

But game to game improvement is key this year... There are wins that just feel like losses when we can see the true quality, or lack thereof, on the field. Perfect examples to me are UConn and Akron in 2013
