MMB informational meeting

Submitted by TXWolverine44 on

For anyone who may be interested in joining, there will be an information meeting at Revelli Hall at 4pm tomorrow. From there, current member and new members will progress to the Drum Major auditions. So for those of you who are musically inclined and have been on the fence, its a fun (albeit time consuming) experience and I rather enjoyed my time with the organization. Plus you get to go to the away games for free.

If you can't make it to the meeting, feel free to email Dr. John Pasquale (just search umich directory) and let him know of your interest.

Go Blue.

p.s.- if you're a sohpomore/freshman, i think the AD is thinking of taking the MMB to Dallas against Alabama

The AD is "thinking" of taking the band to Dallas for the biggest OOC game in one million years?

That Brandon--he really IS a progressive!

I'm sure its a money issue. He'd have to put up the entire football team and the 300+ member band not including staff. I honestly would be surprised if they didn't end up going.

I do not need a hug.

I just wonder, though, why on Earff the band wouldn't be going to a game like this.

I also think Brandon is just trying to figure out how to get all those tubas there on time--and if it would be easier just to rent 300 instruments rather than paying all those etra baggage fees.

If you go Dallas and Jerryville--you go big. Or don't go at all.

And for all the money we're getting for this whole thing, he might as well put up the whole student section while he's at it. 300 people might not be great logistically, but it shouldn't be a cost issue.

Actually, taking the band to an away game to any place you can't drive and get back on the same day is really expensive.  The general rule is that they only go to 1 or 2 road games a year during the regular season, and usually only to games that are close-by (Notre Dame, OSU, MSU).

Getting the band down to Dallas would be expensive and a logistical issue.  If you drive, you have to leave Thursday, meaning the kids miss two days of classes, or you have to drive straight through, which is like a 24 hour drive.  Unless you want the band on the bus for 24 hours, pop them out for the game, and then back on the bus for 24 more hours, you have to pay for at least a night or two of hotels for 300+ people.  If you fly, well, flying the band anywhere is obscenely expensive due to all of the heavy equipment.  The tubas and percussion take up a lot of space.

I'd be pretty surprised if they took the band to Dallas unless the organizers are ponying up a ton of cash specifically for that purpose.
