Mlive story on Stephen Loszewski

Submitted by BlueCube on

First I'd like to apoligize to the mods if they determine that this should be part of the other thread. I thought it would get lost there and it's a story that should be read by all.

Mlive

picked up this story and I know many were wondering what the full story was. Apparently Stephen has lived with luekemia for 3 1/2 years. He was a member of his Grain Valley, MO football team. His father's side of the family are huge Michigan fans and he grew up loving Michigan. When Make a Wish asked what his wish would be he said to be a Michigan recruit for a day.

This started when Jake Long knocked on his door with a arm load of recruiting letters from the Michigan coaches.

I'll let you read the rest in the story but I will say his dog's name is Desi which made Desmond Howards appearance that much more meaningful.

I'll add a few pictures here but there are more at the link.

Most importantly, Stephen is in remission. July 24th is his cure date which means he has been in remission long enough to be classified as cancer free.

Hell yes. What an awesome experience it must have been for ALL involved, but especially Stephen. That's a day he will never ever forget and it's very cool they could be a part of it.

recruiting letters being delivered.

It just sounds like an outstanding effort all the way around. Nice job, everyone!

you are so correct. I recall one season, and it was a year they want the Big 12, I believe, but I do recall them being in the NCAA tournery in bb.  Their starting five or 4 of 5, possibly 5 of first six were all from Detroit.  Having the same sports name as the Michigan baseball franchise, they simply called them the Missouri "Detroit Tigers."  That town sure has put them out over the years. I recall, prior to the town losing roughly over half of its population, a SI article mentioning just how many players were in the league from Michigan, specificaly Lansing and all points east which, of course, ecompasses the Saginaw Valley - that Saginaw and Flint schools - and, of course, Detroit itself. Toss in the Vincents and Magic and the fact Glenn Rice's h.s. team produced four future AAs, one in fb, Andre Rison, but who did see time on the bb squad, and the picture becomes pretty clear.

Although it would be great for him to somehow end up at Michigan, the greater hope, I think shared by everyone on this board, is that he gets some great, great new next month.

1. My wish is my favorite thing espn does. I wish they could and would do it year round.
2. It's always touching to see these stories
3. That 1st picture makes it look like Dez has some serious ups still Edit: that first picture isn't Dez, but they have some serious hops... Who is that?

I don't think the previous thread really touched on anything in this level of detail, at least when it came to the bckground of the story, so this can definitely stay as a supplemental thread. Also, when Jake Long shows up at the door, you listen, right? In all seriousness though, to read about this kid's battle with ALL and about everything that took place so he could run through the tunnel was very heartwarming and an uplifting way for me to start the day.

It sure is where I'm sitting.

Lost a sister to brain cancer and have a brother locked in a ten year battle with non-hogkins lymphoma. So this hits pretty close to home.

Ok I just graduated my oldest Daughter from Northwestern with a Masters in Psycology.  Helped my 8th grade Daughter with arrangements for her Freshman year in High School.  Sent the 7th grade Daughter off to camp for a week so I might have already been an emotional mess but I am in tears at my office having read this.
