Hudson is a more natural strong safety than Jabrill and will prove to be an overall better defensive playmaker when its all said and done.  Jabrill is very good on D, but he is great when he has the ball in his hands.

Both make sense. He seems to be a perfect fit at SS. He also will be a great weapon for a few offensive packages and take that role once Jabrill leaves. I could see him getting a few offensive snaps towards the end of this year as well if he is understanding the defense well.

I think we're going to see a lot of these types of players while Harbaugh is here.

Find great athletes who can play multiple positions, and then find out what to do with them once they get here.

You can teach a position. You can't teach speed, instincts, agility, all that good stuff.

"You can teach a position. You can't teach speed, instincts, agility, all that good stuff."

Coach stating he is not the one who determines where these players compete says a lot. And, as you say, you can teach a position, and at least on the high school level( small school-Division 6) you can predict what that position will be based on the overall talent and the fact you will have "capable" players every year. Therefore it's necessary to put the more-than-capable at the obvious positions to maximize the talent as a whole.

But with the freakish talent he is bringing in here I expect this just to get better and better with each recruiting class adding to what he has already brought in. He had very solid players at Stanford but some of the recruits coming here now are at a level we may have seen previously, but not throughout the roster.

Something tells me these "freakish" athletes just love the idea of proving their ceiling as a football player instead of being pigeon holed into one position permanently. Variety is fun and fun is what football should be.

is easily my favorite - I love Gary's and Pepper's, but to some degree those guys have a little less drama, cause just nothing can stop them. Hudson is still awesome, but his effort is more obvious because his talent level isn't quite as absurdly trancendant.

PS - Please, I beg you, don't misread the above as "Peppers/Gary don't try hard". That's not at all what I said or mean. :) at all. What I mean is, if I'm playing basketball against my 10 year old daughter, I can win with very little effort, so my top line effort is not showing. I'm assuming high school is roughly the same for a Gary/Peppers level talent.

I just watched a highlight of Hudson. I don't think I've seen it before, but it was amazing. I definitely want to see him get some offensive touches. I'm not sure what it is about his running style, but on some of the plays he looks like he is just jogging. On one play he picked up a fumble or maybe a punt or something, and he jukes around a couple guys then he just kinda trots up the field passing everybody. It really looks like his speed takes no effort. It looks like he has short strides or something. Seems incredibly shifty, too.
