MLive Article: Michigan State's Keith Appling breaks out of slump in second half of loss to Michigan

Not sure this guy saw the game?

Appling shot 33%, had 4 fouls, turnover that lead to the game winning basket, and participated in the final possession that resulted in no shot.

Grasping at straws, "Appling's second half play was considerably better than his first half — he was 2-of-4 shooting in the second half and all of his free throws and makes occurred in the second half."

From the article, regarding Burke's steal and dunk:

"Appling took the blame, saying, "As a point guard, I should be able to multi-task and no what's going on.''

I think he should just watch this part, it sums it up:

Slumps are more than just making shots.  Sure, Appling shot better in the 2nd half against Michigan than he has the past few games.  Yet when your inability to "multi-task" ends up costing you the game, there's still reason to be concerned, if you're a Spartan fan.

Bottom line, Appling is a Junior and expected to be a leader on this team and he's not getting it done.

There's a difference between "busting out of a slump" and "being better than the dumpster fire you've been." This was the latter.

So, considering that in the stretch between State's game with Purdue on 2/9 and prior to tip yesterday, Appling had gone 9-39 (23.1%) for field goals and all of 2-19 (10.5%) from 3-point range, averaging 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 turnovers, and 9 points per game in that stretch.

So, include yesterday in this snapshot - Appling is now 12-48 (25.0%) and 2-22 (9.09%) from 3-point range, with a revised average of 3.6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 turnovers and 9 points per game. I don't know if he has completely turned the corner just yet.

I'm really tired of the media's Sparty slurp-fest.

Speaking as an advocate and not trying to be the least bit funny here, Appling played like he "wasn't into it," and it made me want to vomit when the announcer was giving a spiel about how great of a citizen Payne supposedly is.

I really wanted to throw my monitor through a window.

Honest question.  The Journey is an excellent show on BTN, and while sometimes I dislike it because it tells positive stories about my hated enemies, it's well produced and considerate.

There was a great feature on Payne and a little girl who had cancer, and some of the wonderful things he's done for her.  I believe that's what the announcer was referring to, and in that sense alone (I don't know anything else about him), he certainly has been a good citizen.
