Mixed feelings from David Cornwell (2014 QB)

Submitted by 814 East U on

David Cornwell seems to be somewhat disappointed with how Michigan handled the offer to Wilton. I am assuming there is no way Michigan is getting both Cornwell and Wilton? I am aware and prepared to get the Twitter Haters usual responses of "why do you look at high school kids twitters" but today's signing day is a bit slow for Michigan...

Tough Deal today thought Michigan would at least tell me. Still plan in calling at 12 today

@DavidCornwell5

Not saying I would have committed to Michigan, but they were defiantly towards the top

@DavidCornwell5

Proud of my man @WiltonSpeight great to get to know him over the last week we will see each other soon!

@DavidCornwell5

Will come out with a new top 5 tonight, calls with Michigan, Tennessee, Bama, Virginia Tech today

Makes me like Cornwell even more. He can be disappointed, yet classy. I'll take them both if we can.

In the age of Twitter, THIS is what we're debating? This could've been WAY worse. Glad David didn't make an ass of himself.

I sure hope that Cornwell is still interested, and that we give scholarships to both.  QB is such an important position, and the bust rate is high enough, that I would rather have an extra QB on scholarship than an extra WR or LB.

...Cornwell. Looks like things are back on track, relationship wise. My guess is that they intend to make an offer to him if Gardner doesn't obtain the med redshirt. In the meantime, they continue to evaluate.

...but his other line about how this has made him realize that he should commit if he loves a school and coach sure makes it seem like he'd commit to Michigan right now if he got the chance - or at least that he wishes he'd told them that he'd commit on the spot if offered.

...to these tweets?

Beyond his first "disappointed" tweet, I'd say the young man has acquitted himself well with this.

...the time stamps on those tweets are all wrong. My guess is that the Twitter server(s) that they're pulled from is located in a time zone not aligned with the local time of the person who either tweeted (CT in this case) or embedded them (ET in my case).

Sign this kid up. He's got a good head on his shoulders, he clearly can play. Bring him in.

Sounds like he may have been the coaches 1a. but he wasn't ready to commit, they went with 1b. and he jumped at the opportunity. Now 1a is wish he'd done the same.

With that said, I would agree with the poster above. If I read between the lines, and they're evry blurry...it almost sounds like he was made aware of DG's situation and if it doesn't pan out for DG and Michigan, he's the one they want.

Michigan wanted an early QB committment.  Sensed Dave would not budge early.  Find another top QB.  Done.

If either of them were up for it, I'd take both Cornwell and Speight and redshirt one and get into the habit of redshirting all incoming QBs.

RS Gardner->2014

Bellomy->2015

Morris->2016

Speight or Cornwell->2017

RS Speight or Cornwell->2018

RS 2015 QB->2019

RS 2016 QB->2020

I'm sure Al has evaluated the top 3 QBs and may have felt Speight fit his offense better or was close enough to Cornwell? He probably wanted one of his top two QB committed.  I would like to take Cornwell but the only way I think that will possible is if DG doesn't get his injury RS. It will be summer by the time the coaches know but I think they could flip Cornwell if he made a verbal to another team and DG doesn't get his RS.
