Mitch McGary started rehab with team doctors
There was some debate a few days ago over whether McGary's Twitter message meant that he was rehabbing. We need debate no more. He recently started doing what Coach Beilein guesses must be "very, very" light work with the team's doctors.

I and someone else around here agree that He's playing at some point this year. Jdon maybe? Anyway, I could be very wrong, but I've just had this "feeling" that if all goes well he could see some court time come mid-late-March. Good for him either way, I'm sure it feels great to get back on the court even if just lightly rehabbing and getting to shoot around a bit.

it was ijohnb who thought that. I have said a few times, "indefinitely" means something far different than "for the season," both good and bad. With McGary, based on both the rhetoric used and how he looks on the bench, I think he will be back for the NCAA tourney, at the latest. I don't think he will start, but I think he will be in the rotation come tourney time (both big ten and NCAA).

I agree, it looks like he's moving well on the sidelines.

think those two things are as different as you think they are. I think McGary wants to go pro, and I think he needs to play this year to get drafted high. I think he is going to do anything he can to raise his draft stock for right now, and that means play and play well.

that did this to any rebound near him last year

This team could certainly use McGary if he's ready to play. It's hard to see how stepping on to the court without being able to help the team would help his draft stock. At this point he's only doing what 100% of players would do in his position.

Apparently someone doesn't want to WIN THE GAME!

“Do not have any shattering news on there. I would assume it’s very very light right now,” Beilein added. “But he has started some rehab with our team and teams of doctors. Gotta start slow and do it right.”
Totally agree with the last sentence. I would much rather have McGary perhaps come back at 100% next season (if indeed he did not play again) than rush his rehab and risk a setback of any kind as that hurts the team and worse, Mitch potentially. If they feel that he is able to play at some point this season late perhaps, then that's excellent as well.

Can't one of our orthos or neuro guys weigh in on this? Probably hard to give a real opinion without knowing what McGary was diagnosed with,,,,ruptured disk, stenotic spine...I know a couple of the words from having had back surgery myself, but I don't know squat about rehab, what it entails and the time period involved.

I have to disagree here. Admittedly, I have no insider information, but based on being an athletic, active 21-year-old, he probably had a disc herniation & subsequent surgery to correct that. Without having spinal stenosis or spondylolisthesis, he may not ever need another surgery. In fact, disc herniations often resolve on their own, not requiring surgery at all. My best guess is that his was severe enough to require surgery.
If all this (all my guesses) is the case, he could be back by the end of the season.

from a talent development standpoint. "Come to Michigan, play for a great coach and maybe get to the NBA in a year or two."
The "two-and-done" model is one that I think will increase over thenext few years. Most of those players will probably end up going to Kansas, Kentucky, UNC, and Duke. But not all of them.

skeptical he can not only rehab in time but also get into effective playing shape.
i like what we have going with morford (accept the name - the powers that be have decreed it). and it would be painful to see morgan lose his job at the tourney again. but i am certainly rooting for the big puppy to come back fast and strong. he seems to be a guy that could help the program for years to come, especially if we get a title during his time.

I believe it is team doctors who have hired Mitch McGary as a motivational speaker and life coach.
