He's the x factor. Can't wait to see what he'll do next year.
Mitch Mcgary love thread.
i can't wait to see what he'll do next game!
McGary: 12/17 shooting, 25 pts, 14 rebs, 3 stl in 35 mins
Withey: 6/11 shotting, 12 pts, 8 rebs, 5 blk in 39 mins
Who would have thought going into this game that McGary would win this matchup? Dude's become a big man in the past 3 games.
McGary is actually further along in his skill set and ability than Withey was at this stage is his career. So its not that surprising especially since the way he has been used the in the three games has been great. Putting him in the pick and roll with burke has really maximized his opportunities.
than Morgan or Horford. What is the upside for this kid? Can't wait to find out.
It took most the year to get his conditioning and eating sorted out. The guy has some great offensive skills that almost surprise me when I see them when you compare him to the guy in the regular season.
my five year old son is more along in his offensive game than Horford...
yes, I laughed out loud at my self. I rule.
I would honestly consider it a draw if Withey didnt edge McGary. They destroyed our interior defense, where McGary is. McGary's bulk of great defensive plays come from hustle 10-20 ft from the basket. Withey kept us out of the lane for 35 minutes.
BOOOO This is a McGary Love thread!!!!
when you punch McGary in the nuts.
they were just turning his game on
they were just turning his game on
Dong Punch flips a switch
Would’nt like me when angry
Mitch Smashes Withey
He does deserve his own thread.
noticeable improvement in his game the last month or so. Very impressed with the coaching staff and MM putting in the time and effort to develop his game.
has been a breakthrough
And Burke is getting the ball to him and still scoring a bunch himself. The new Michigan inside/outside game. Gotta love it.
Anyone else here in their mid 30s having flashbacks when they see #4 stealing the ball and leading the break?
My thoughts exactly. Awesome
I liked it when McGary would make jumpers in Witheys face. Yeah ... I liked that.
he's added a good amount of range to his game... hopefully his free throws keep him out of the draft :/
McGary had his doubters, and they were well deserved. Tonight though he single handedly kept us in the game until late. He gave up 4-5" and still dominated the boards. Really showed why he has taken over as the starter.
How tall do you think WIthey is?
I believe Elijah Johnson would concur.
You mean big McNuggets...
All the bigger for Johnson to target.
I bet Johnsons hand hurt after hitting McGary's berries
I am just jumping into a thread, any thread, to say fuck yeah!
I hope his man parts are OK! That's what you call taking one for the team.
Where the hell did McGary come from?!?! March McGary!!
...when I have my crazy subs party at my house! I'm drunk on my blue drink that I drank out of my U of M glass while watching the game alone in the dark in my family room!!!! And I'm 45 years old!
This is my favorite post of all time.
That KU player will rue that day he touched McGary's balls. Pissed him off mightily in sure.
He has a broken hand now.
sunt tauri maximi viri optimique.
Don't even know what that means, but who cares? Everybody is getting posbanged tonight!
Huge game Mitch and thank you to Jordan Morgan for staying in the game!
Really want him to stay all four years just so I can love this kid longer. By far one of my favorite Michigan players every in my lifetime.
And he is gone after net year. He keeps playing like this folks are going to start talking about him leaving this year. Remember he was thinking about going pro before coming umich (he was in prep school,no?).
In any event, dude keeps this up, he might be on some per season all American lists. Seriously, he has been dominant.
McGary actually turns 21 this summer, so I don't think it's realistic to expect him to be here four years. I'll gladly take two years.
McGary just did a beat down of Withey. His last game was great against a small team but no one expected the beat down of Withey.
McGary is my new favorite player after Burke. This guy is all over the floor and never gives up. No one is hustling more than McGary in the last few games. Better than Noel...no question
Love this kid. Great game when it counted the most.
Love this kid. Great game when it counted the most.
watching McGary commit to UM on ESPN live and I thought to myself, "this is going to be a special team.". WOW!
Its official, Mitch McGary is a Super Saiyan.
a beer Mr. MCGary!
I love you Mitch!
Mitch you are da man!
McGarry handling Withey. Did anyone see this coming?
anyone have the shot of mitch getting hit in the sack... i wasn't home yet when it happened?.. would like to see it
Up thread there's a link to the gif
McGary is the freaking man. That is all.
Beast Mode! Mitch "Road Grater" McGray has arrived!
I'm watching the UM players press conference on my DVR and so far no one has asked Mitch about the nut shot. WTF? That should be the first question.
But seriously, how is a nut shot not a Flagrant II?
Got suspended for his but I don't think he was ejected. His was worse.
march mcgary playing great.
i was only able to watch the last 1 minute of regulation plus overtime. i might be the luckiest person on the blog! hell of a game boys! now let's beat florida (+/- gulf coast)
Watching on the stream, and just as it looked like Michigan might have a chance to pull it close at the end, it stops and a notification appears that I've used up my "free four hours." Didn't know I only had four hours. And then a friend texts me that we're in OT. So you must have gotten the part of the game I missed.
This is a true story.
McGary's offense is just getting better.
I really can't wait to see what he'll be able to do once he has a full year of strength and conditioning under his belt.
Absolutely amazing! Never expected such a quick improvement in his game. Love watching him play!
It's quite amazing really - in the Tournament, Mitch McGary:
- is 28-37, good for an FG% of 75.7% thus far
- has 12 offensive and 25 defensive rebounds, which accounts for 46.2% and 42.4% of the team totals for each respectively.
- is responsible for almost one-third of the team's steals in the Tournament as well.
His contribution to the team has been invaluable in getting this team to where it is now - there is no question about that.
Mitch McGary is now my imaginary boy friend.
You're an animal, McGary. Spend the offseason working on those free throws and you've got the whole package.
So much awesome
Congrats Mitch. Really gutty game and just pure 100 percent awesome.
Mitch McGary and Blake Griffin (2009) are the only players in the last 15 seasons with consecutive games of 21+ points and 14+ rebounds in the Men's Basketball Championship. He is just the 6th player since seeding began in 1979 to have two such games in a single Men's Basketball Championship.
Unreal play by this kid all tourney. He kept us close the whole game. I love you Mitch!
I thought one of the turning points in the game was when it looked like Michigan had given up, and Mitch McGary was caught looking at the ball instead of diving after it and Kansas got a hustle bucket out of it. Belein called timeout, and whatever he said it got the team to at least fight back so that Trey magic could occur.
Defensively they were suspect for much of the game, but I thought they had a spectacular offensive gameplan to deal with the presence of Withey.
That really wasn't his fault. He had his guy sealed off and was expecting it to go out of bounds, but someone else's man hustled for it.
That it was one of the few times all year I didn't see him making a hustle play. He made up for it but just noticing the lack of effort on one play says all you need to know about the kid. Usually you don't notice the one time someone isn't a hustle machine. I bet he sees that on film too and it just pushes him further.
The proper way to refer to him is MMcFG -
As incredible as Burke was, I think Mitch was the player of the game. He kept us in it all night when we easily could have folded. His heart is gigantic. I just hope the NBA scouts haven't paid any attention...
Monumental performance by Mitch. Second-most valuable player on the team - and in the first two games, probably the MVP.
Anybody else old enough that Trey + Mitch reminds them of Isiah Thomas + Bill Laimbeer?
Has it been that long that we've got to ask if anyone remembers the Bad Boys? Dang.
It are riot in east lansing?
Mitch McGary is why we're in the Elite 8. He has been epic in all 3 games so far.
When Burke says to Believe,
Everybody better believe!
He is UM's tournament MVP right now. He kept his team in the game tonight and destroyed VCU last weekend.
If he played like this all year, Michigan would have been B1G champs. Not knocking him...he just needed to develop...I would never question his effort. Talk about picking the right time to peak!
Go Blue! 3 down. 3 to go.
every time i see him on the court for sparty getting manhandled i'm so glad JB lost out on him, cuz we likely wouldn't have landed the big puppy.
