Mitch McGary deciding between Michigan, Florida, and Duke next week

Submitted by mds315 on

Per Jason Jordan's twitter:

Jordan covers b-ball through espn, and this is the same blog that had Michigan as McGary's leader prior to whatever changes happened.

States that he doesn't know where he is going yet...but the Duke boards think we have the edge

It is between us, Florida, and Duke..

Says that he hasn't heard from UNC for a while and is concerned about their scholly situation

Said nothing about either Duke or UM except that they are the finalists

Johnson is a 6-foot-9 senior at Edisto High School in Cordova, S.C., just outside Orangeburg. He was not a top prospect after his junior season, but he became one after a spring and summer of improvement in AAU play. In an informal moment at school, a bystander asked Johnson where he was going to play college basketball. He put on a UNC cap and said, "I'm going to North Carolina."

Link to the rest of the story.

So I'm guessing he dropped NC. Now if he'll just do the same with Kentucky...

He just saved a bunch of money on his car insurance by switching to Geico.

"Can you save a bunch of money on car insurance by switching to Geico? Does Mitch McGary shatter backboards?"

*Insert pic of McGary blowing up a backboard during the elite 24 or whatever it was

This will probably not be breaking or news. Anyway I'm excited for him to decide which shade of blue he prefers. I only expect either a decision date being set or a "it's only 2" post. Which we already know

..speculating on what the currently non-existent cba will look like when it finally gets signed and then speculating on what currently unsigned high school players will do at that point?

that's talking through too many layers of made-up-ness for me to hear a single word.

There is no "current" CBA, as of July 30th.  There will be no draft until a new CBA is agreed upon, and if it is dragged out until next June there will have to be new draft protocols written in.

From what I'm reading about the current negotiations, the league may pick up sooner rather than later and we may still get 82 games, and this could all be moot.

he'll go to Duke to maximize his chances of getting to the Final Four and the championship game. If he's not intent on going to the NBA after one season, Michigan's in a good position.

From MM's blog, Oct 27th 1:43am

"I can honestly say that right now I don’t know where I’m going so anything you read that says I do isn’t true. I already talked to my man Jason Jordan from ESPNHS and let him know that I want to do another blog before I make my announcement just to get all of my thoughts out and clear my mind so I can make the best decision possible.

At this point, I’m focusing on Florida, Duke and Michigan.

I love Maryland, but I just don’t think that it’s the best fit for me and I’m still looking at North Carolina, but, like I said, I don’t really know what’s going on with their scholarship situation after their latest commitments.

Obviously, I’ve got some great options, but this next week I’ll really be doing a lot of thinking about what the perfect situation for me will be.

Well, I know I’ve given you all a lot in this blog so I’m going to end it here.

Don’t forget you’ll hear from me again next week in my blog before I make my commitment so check back for that."

I'm impressed with MM's blog.  He sounds rational and articulate when talking about his future.  Everything that's out there seems to reinforce the idea of a "great kid".

It's nice to see that it's back to Florida, Duke and Michigan.  That gives me hope that between playing time, the electric atmosphere at the UTL game and the relationship with Bacari and JB he'll be playing for Michigan!

I heard McGary is waiting to find out if Mclimans gets a 5th year. McGary you see, doesn't want to redshirt. If he is 4th on the totem pole behind Morgan, Horford, and Mclimans,he prolly have to ride the pines for a year. McGary can't go for that, no can do. IF this is the case, McGary probably going to take his game to Dook and play behind the 2 or 3 big clumsies they have.

Those guys are waiting for McGary to commit to see if they will get solid PT or not.  You don't ever redshirt the #4 overall player in the class and the #1 PF who could play Center in college.

I had to make up an excuse as to why I was laughing out loud here at work.  Thank you for almost getting me in trouble for being off topic.

Actually, it doesn't matter that he is the 4th overall player in the nation. This isn't football and you don't have 85 basketball scholarships to hand out. Even if you aren't good, unless you are injured, it Is very rare to get a college basketball redshirt.
