Missouri vs. Kansas
After trying to keep up with all of the expansion talk, it seems that Kansas being left out of the whole multiple death star thing is kind of a forgone conclusion. I've always enjoyed their basketball program. So my question is, why not do Kansas instead of Missouri?
Academically, Kansas seems to have the slight advantage. Whichever one of them got the CIC bump would seem to end up being the higher rated school. It's been assumed that Missouri is the key to the St. Louis / KC market, but this analysis seems to indicate that the financial incentive to the BTN is equal between the two.
So, if academics, TV and football are equal, wouldn't the KU basketball program be an obvious push over the top for Kansas? I guess I just don't get Missouri over Kansas. When it comes to national brand, it has to be Kansas.
I think there's a great opportunity to get an amazing football AND basketball conference here. Land Nebraska, Notre Dame, Kansas, Syracuse, and Pittsburgh and you just owned every other conference.
Football - Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Nebraska, Notre Dame in tier one and a solid tier two of Iowa, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, and maybe eventually Syracuse again.
Basketball - Kansas, Syracuse, MSU, Purdue, Pitt, Indiana, OSU (as long as Matta stays) in tier one and a nice tier two of Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Michigan (I can hope), and Illinois.
This is the blockbuster I think we need if Texas can't happen.
Mizzou softball. Better Big Ten fit.
Missouri: What? Do you think I like being irrelevant? Do you think I like hoarding championships in fucking Softball? And it's not even the cool softball where you drink and wear inappropriate t-shirts that say things like "Balls Going Deep". It's the lesbian kind of softball where half of the cars in the parking lot are pink Cadillacs, and the chicks that show up wear visors and Birkenstocks.
You should read that link. It's totally awesome in ways I can't even describe.
Possibly the funniest thing I've ever read.
Missouri: So, yeah, I'm out. Fuck you, fuck you, (points at Kansas) and double fuck you.
Kansas: Well, that wasn't nice.
His take on A&M is amazing.
Yeah, normally I'm more on top of stuff like that. Vacation had me away from the internets for a week. Just catching up tonight. That video of the Aggie mind is disturbing. I've been trying to find the right place to post it here.
that was beyond any expectation i had when i clicked on your link...awesome!
That is the funniest thing I have read in a very, VERY long time. Written by a KSU fan too. At least they're good sports about it.
Makes me glad the Big Ten isn't the one on the chopping block.
I'm glad you posted that. That is beyond brilliant.
But Mark Mangino ate it... along with the mailman who brought it.
they only offer 6 men's sports. 10 women's sports. plus, mizzou has more (ancient) history in football than KU, iirc
Good call, never occurred to me to even look at something like that. Odd to have such a small athletic department.
Applicant will not be considered if their football and basketball programs are under federal investigation.
I'm surprised Kansas hasn't been talked about more as an option in the superconference scenario. I think their basketball team alone is enough to put them above Rutgers, and Kansas does have a relatively large population base (bigger than Nebraska, I think).
Given Syracuse's basketball program, how would you rate them in the candidates?
Mizzou's bball program is chopped liver.
What people might be missing is how awesome Nebraska is in womens volleyball. How about Penn State vs Nebraska every year.
or the fact that the Big 10 can go back to having 11 teams playing baseball (lame Wisconsin), and by the way the Huskers will dominate in that sport.
you can't get tickets...they are building a new arena for them I think...I'm very happy with this addition...
I can tell you this: Missouri is the Australia of the United States: a corrupt, back-water hole in the ground that was founded by criminals, perverts, and slave owners...It is socially acceptable in Missouri to stake one's children in poker games, and cannibalism was only outlawed there in 1983. We do not want Missouri in the Big Ten.
I sense a small amount of bias, but I largely can't blame you given my feelings about the potential addition of Maryland.
