Whoa.

 Penalties in this case include:

  • Public reprimand and censure.
  • Two years of probation from June 7, 2013 through June 6, 2015.
  • A one-year show-cause order for the former assistant coach, which prevents him from recruiting activities and booster interaction. The public report contains further details.
  • A reduction of the number of official visits to 39, from the four-year average of 41, for the 2012-13 and 2013-14 academic years (Self-imposed by the university).
  • A reduction of the number of recruiting days during the spring evaluation period by four, from 168 to 164, for the 2013-14 academic year (Self-imposed by the university).
  • A reduction in the number of total scholarships by two, from 85 to 83, for the 2012-13 academic year (Self-imposed by the university).
  • A reduction in the number of initial and total scholarships by two, from 25 to 23 and 85 to 83, respectively, for the 2013-14 academic year (Self-imposed by the university).
  • For the first two conference contests of the 2013 season, complimentary admissions to football recruits will be prohibited (Self-imposed by the university).
  • Disassociation of the booster by the university’s athletics program. Details of the disassociation can be found in the public report (Self-imposed by the university)

Seems incredibly light considering the nature of the violation... and cover up

In the B1G, Illinois comes to mind. They've been on probation a number of times and frankly never had a lot to show for it. I believe they were on probation twice in the eighties, and managed one Rose Bowl trip. In 1983, they were 10-1 going into the Rose Bowl against 6-4-1 UCLA, but managed to lose 45-9.

In English writing, quotation marks or inverted commas (informally referred to as quotes or speech marks) are punctuation marks surrounding a quotation, direct speech, or a literal title or name. Quotation marks can also be used to indicate a different meaning of a word or phrase than the one typically associated with it and are often used to express irony.

Even more awesome, that looks like the state of Oregon to me and if that’s the case it’s 3 hours earlier here on the west coast.

So try that statement as: “Starting at NINE on a Friday…”

You did originally post someone was getting “hammered”, didn’t you?    /s

It appears that after so many teams have been reported to have the hammer coming and wound up with a gentle nudge and a "Hey guy, that's not fair," the word hammered has lost all semblance of its former self in our vernacular.

Auburn better not pay another Cam Newton for his services again or the NCAA is really going to hit Mississippi State hard.

Like the Pink Floyd reference. Someone once yelled this too me out of a car window. I think they meant to confuse me, but I quickly fired back with "I love Pink Floyd." They seemed rather stunned. Cool story bro over.

Here's the NCAA summary statement - LINK

Here's the full report - LINK

The report does actually note that the NCAA was satisfied with Mississippi State's level of cooperation and believed it had fulfilled its obligation to the bylaws which govern the facilitation of any investigation.

Some of the other minor details - Mississippi State has to develop and implement an educational program regarding the proper certification of athletes and basically instruct them in what "eligible" means. They also have to provide notice to recruits of the nature and duration of the penalties before either a visit or before an NLI is signed.

Sets a precedent. So the OSU's, Florida's, and every other cheating school will say we can live with two scholly reductions, a few visit restrictions, etc. Every cheater will now look at MSU and say "We did the same thing they did so we should only get what they got".

Punishments should serve as a deterrent to others. This is nothing.
Not to mention, are we to believe that this kid was the only MSU recruit that was given $6,000 an MSU jacket and a visa gift card? I never believe these schools are busted on the first and/or only time they committed the infraction.
