Seems incredibly light considering the nature of the violation... and cover up
they all got hammered drunk on moonshine after realizing they just got away with it.
That might be part of the reason that two of their commits are camping at Michigan in a couple weeks...
Who?
Conner O'Donnell and Robert Washington.
Mississippi State already has TWO 2016 commits?
That wide receiver looks like he's 16. Because he's probably 16.
Most kids in the class of 2016 are only 14 or 15, actually.
They're freshmen, aren't they.
They're way too young to be exposed to that much CLANGA CLANGA
Not exactly hammered
Oh, wait, no, this still makes perfect sense. Ole Miss would have to get hammered worse.
The real question is when are they going to catch the rest of the SEC if this is all that a middling team in the conference was up to?
In the B1G, Illinois comes to mind. They've been on probation a number of times and frankly never had a lot to show for it. I believe they were on probation twice in the eighties, and managed one Rose Bowl trip. In 1983, they were 10-1 going into the Rose Bowl against 6-4-1 UCLA, but managed to lose 45-9.
MSU's been on probation a few times, too.
Probation even kept them out of the 1979 Rose Bowl.
I believe they have been on probation the most out of anyone in the Big Ten for football, including a forfeited season in 1996.
Think about how incredibly hard it is to produce evidence when the only things changing hands in these situations are words and cash.
Permit Oregon and Miami to continue despite significant accusations against both. Ok, thank you NCAA
They're not really "striking down" Miss State either, though.
In English writing, quotation marks or inverted commas (informally referred to as quotes or speech marks) are punctuation marks surrounding a quotation, direct speech, or a literal title or name. Quotation marks can also be used to indicate a different meaning of a word or phrase than the one typically associated with it and are often used to express irony.
I swear there weren't quotation marks when I commented. Either that or I'm drunk.
Starting at noon on a Friday... sounds like my kind of Friday
Even more awesome, that looks like the state of Oregon to me and if that’s the case it’s 3 hours earlier here on the west coast.
So try that statement as: “Starting at NINE on a Friday…”
You did originally post someone was getting “hammered”, didn’t you? /s
Yep, in Portland. And although I'm allowed to drink at work, doing so at 9am would raise some eyebrows.
"We will sometimes slap you on the wrist."
It appears that after so many teams have been reported to have the hammer coming and wound up with a gentle nudge and a "Hey guy, that's not fair," the word hammered has lost all semblance of its former self in our vernacular.
off two beers!
The NCAA: "Death Awaits You All With Nasty Big Pointy Teeth."
MSU: "What, behind the rabbit?"
What exactly constitutes "public reprimand and censure?"
They will be made to go to the center of the diag and listen to whichever random zealot is protesting that day. They will then be told, in a stern voice, "you can't have your pudding if you don't eat your meat."
Here's the NCAA summary statement - LINK
Here's the full report - LINK
The report does actually note that the NCAA was satisfied with Mississippi State's level of cooperation and believed it had fulfilled its obligation to the bylaws which govern the facilitation of any investigation.
Some of the other minor details - Mississippi State has to develop and implement an educational program regarding the proper certification of athletes and basically instruct them in what "eligible" means. They also have to provide notice to recruits of the nature and duration of the penalties before either a visit or before an NLI is signed.
Justice.
Eh whatever. MSUs is a non-factor anyway.
Not to mention, are we to believe that this kid was the only MSU recruit that was given $6,000 an MSU jacket and a visa gift card? I never believe these schools are busted on the first and/or only time they committed the infraction.
That's one heck of a wrist slap
NCAA isn't messing around anymore.
Hammered? More like they going to get their bell, er, institutionally-traditional noisemaker, rung...
They need less cowbell. Anyone who went to the bowl game understands. Us getting beat down on top of those damn Bells was miserable.
