Minnesota Maize Out

Submitted by NeilGoBlue on

Just received an email saying it's a Maize out...

I really wish they would put the Maize Outs back on the tickets.

I'm doing a road trip with my kids in a couple weeks to see PSU play Purdue in Happy Valley. We wanted to go because everyone says it's a pretty awesome game day experience. On the way back we're going to see the Steelers host the Jaguars. Should be a sweet weekend. Full debrief to follow.

A couple of people have noted the issue with Michigan stuff coming in blue.  Please allow me to suggest the ever fashionable Michigan Hockey jersey in maize.  Get it a bit large and it will easy go over your sweatshirt or jacket.  It has all the maize you'd want and is appropraite in winter and spring (aka frozen four season).  Makes a lovely gift.

The reason Maize Outs are in the early season is there is very limited Maize outerwear. That's why Michigan did a Blue Out in 2005 against ohio because blue coats are common.

We should do a hunter-orange out to blind the other team and give our guys special face shields to dull the color. Or a strobe light-out. That would be sick

The Maize out against Minn is so that we can at least get one in in October.  The only other chance would be Purdue . . . even worse.  Plus, the Purdue game is homecoming where you will have ancient alumni in the stands that do not have any Michigan attire that is not gray (or even from this century).

I don't get why people think that it's impossible to find maize winter clothes. Sure, it may not be as common as blue or gray, but by it's by no means difficult to find. I have a couple maize sweatshirts (which I have no trouble finding a "use" for the other 3/4 of the year) and I used to have a yellow winter ski jacket (sadly worn out, new one was a gift). I also have a maize jersey (ok, that one's hockey, like The FannMan). I don't really feel the need to wear jerseys to football games anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that I think everyone has to wear maize. If you're not going to join in the maize-outs though, don't blame it on an inability to find suitable gear. If you want to go in your blue jersey, that's up to you. I prefer to always go in maize because it's a more impressive effect, your preferences may be different.

and I go the games (home and away) because I love to watch Michigan football, live and in-person and root like hell for the Maize and Blue.

I really don't give a shit what it looks like on TV ... dressing all alike makes us look "queer" (oh no ...  I need to watch that PSA again!).

The schools that have the best [color]-out games are the ones who either have a bright primary home jersey color (red, orange), have white as a school color (PSU) or have a black alternate jersey (many schools, ASU, Louisville). Unfortunately for this purpose, our colors are dark blue and bright maize. The dark blue doesn't stand out, and maize is not a color that people wear outside of a sports context (when was the last time you saw someone wearing bright yellow clothing that didn't have a sports team logo on it like Michigan or Oregon?) and it is rare to see a yellow jacket or sweatshirt. I personally wouldn't own any yellow clothing if maize wasn't one of our colors, and even then most of my Michigan stuff is blue.

But it could be worse. We could be like Notre Dame's student section with royal blue shirts at a school that wears navy blue and gold (and sometimes green).

This may be the only game I get to attend this year and I'll be wearing my maize long sleeve T under my Denard jersey, with my maize M hat.  That's as close as I can get to a maize-out.  Feel free to say 'hi' when you see me on Saturday!

Didn't they give all the students maize t-shirts with their season tickets?  It sure looked that way when I was at the WMU game...

Sort of solves the "where can I find a yellow shirt" problem.

Hey, wear whatever you want and tell anyone who doesn't like it to get a life.  We had a dude in our dorm freshmen year who tried to coordinate outfits every Saturday.  He moved out after the fall semester.

"Hi guyzzzz!  Let's all wear yellow today..."

Depends on how much you want to pay and what kind of coat you want. Here's one: http://www.burlingtoncoatfactory.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=3089561&SearchedProduct=t

Here's another: http://www.thenorthfacejacketsforsale.com/men-north-face-gore-tex-jackets/north-face-triclimate-goretex-jacket-maize-yellow-140.html

If you're a lady who's into fashion, maybe this one: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/steve-madden-toggle-coat/3058217?mediumthumbnail=Y&origin=category&P=2&pbo=6024786

I wouldn't go out and buy a coat just for this, but I wear my "cheap and ugly" sweatshirts until it gets really cold.

Not sure how to start a new thread. I have two tickets for the Minnesota game I need to sell as some things have come up and I will not be able to make it up for the game. The seats are in section 35, row 36. Price is negotiable. Again sorry, not trying to hi jack just not sure where else to post this.

Since weather's being discussed here, I thought I'd ask: how's it looking in AA currently in terms of precipitation?

Was wondering about the likelihood of the golf courses & Pioneer being closed for tomorrow's game.
