Yes, you read that right, Minnesota has just claimed the 1904 National Title (One that really belongs to the good guys in Maize and Blue) based on some computer rankings they're athletic department just became aware of.  In that season they beat a high school and this article alleges that the rest of their season was similarily "cupcake" except for a 4 point win over Nebraska.

WHAT IS THIS BULLSHIT?!

Michigan outscored their opponents 567-22, including a 130-0 win over WVU. Tell me, they weren't the true national champion.

Well they were 13-0 and outscored opponents 725-12 and only let the other team score in one game...college football was kind of a joke then.

...another title for the Gophers is also another title for the B1G.  I'll drink to that.

Wooo...suck it SEC!

According to the man who made those computer rankings, "A retroactive computer ranking is just as accurate in 1904 as it is in 2012."

Am I the only one who thinks that might be the most absurd thing ever said about football polls?

I never knew they won the 1960 AP national title with a record of 8-2. I guess thats why they call them mythical NT's.

Michigan 1971 - 11-1 (Undefeated season, three shutouts and twice scored 60+ points... only loss was to Stanford in the Rose Bowl 13-12 on a last second FG)

Michigan 1972 - 10-1 (14-11 loss to Ohio, we had them... 1st-and-goal at the Buckeye 5 and could not score)

Michigan 1973 - 10–0–1 - NCF, PS (Tied Ohio, you know the rest)

Michigan 1985 - 10-1-1 - MGR (If not for the Illinois tie, we probably share it with Oklahoma)

It still bugs me that Bo never won the national title... we were so close many times especially in 71.

Read the link...

With all due respect to Minnesota, it was the NCAA that awarded the Nat'l Championship to them.  They did this in 1996.  Minnesota just now realized the NCAA recognized it and updated its record books accordingly.

The NCAA will go back to 1904 to correct a national championship but when USC vacated their national championship in 2004 they didn't correct that? You said the NCAA, right? Ok yeah that actually makes perfect sense. Give them another century and it'll work itself out.
