Great SNL skit with Tom Brady on that quite a while back.  Brady was in an office just harassing the hell out of all the women and they loved it.  Then normal cast member did minor things and was getting taken to the cleaners for it.  Hilarious (and true).

He was an odd hire for them in the first place, coming from VCU, which doesn't even have football.  His claim to fame was hiring Shaka Smart at VCU, but that connection didn't help Minnesota  - Smart turned them down when their job came open.

I live in Richmond and know two VCU alums who have "Founders Room" access for the games (basically a VIP section with an open bar for top donors) and both of them -- completely independent of each other -- told me he had an apparent alcohol problem  years ago. Very sad.

He had a pretty good reputation at Minnesota prior to this though. He did a very good job raising funds for some building projects and people are happy enough with Jerry Kill. The jury is still out on the Pitino hire, though people weren't happy that Teague basically got played by Pitino Sr. into giving Jr. a raise this past summer. But basketball coach is easily the least important of the three.

He said he will seek treatment for an "alcohol problem."  Sorry, but the real problem is that something inside of him feels sexual harassment is appropriate behavior.  The alcohol just turned his filter off.

Bullshit.  Alcohol is not a truth serum, it's a mind-altering drug that can turn otherwise good people into monsters.  The real man is the sober one, not the drunk one.

And given all the high profile non-apologies for misbehavior, it was nice to see an example of an unflinching, unequivocable mea culpa from Teague

Some men can be made into monsters by alcohol. In others it can reveal the monster.

Alcohol can and does remove cultural inhibitions. That's why some drink to excess. To remove the boundaries instilled in them from an early age. Alcohol removes for some the mask of  quiet conformity to social norms.

That said, there are those who are in the thrall to alcohol. It is addictive as much as sugar and tobacco are addictive. It can cause normally upstanding citizens to behave like Visigoths.

Quoting a Latin phrase, propounded by the Catholic Church, who covers up all manner of debauchery. You are so constantly wrong, on so many fronts, with such certainty, I wonder what it must be like to live in your world?! Unicorns exist! Why? Because I said so. And I'm perfect. Issues man. Issues.

I had a "friend" once who got in trouble for the same thing several years ago.  What most people forget in these situations is that he probably didnt just launch a series of sexts that werent "encouraged" in some way prior to him hitting the send button.  The recepient of the unwanted texts had been sending a LOT of signals to my friend that she was interested in him including giving my friend her phone number so he COULD send texts.  But in my friend's case the co-worker was married and when hubby found out suddently these were unwanted and unappreciated advances and he had hell to pay with his company.

Or so my friend says.

Wow. Two questions:

  1. What do you think the likelihood is that Teague sent texts to two separate people after receiving signals from both of those people that it would be okay to send texts but then both of these people's spouses found out and so the wanted texts became unwanted, versus the alternative explanation--that Teague is a drunken lech, or at least was on that night?
  2. Is the "friend" you?

EDIT: Second question withdrawln.

No I draw no conclusions on his behavior because I dont know what he did or what led up to what he did.  All I'm saying is that sometimes a text goes from wanted to unwanted based on the situation.  And that sometimes people give out their phone number and engage in behavior they later regret.

I'll take the fifth on your withdrawn question.

Kudos to the Minnesota writer who wins the award for the least insightful sub-header in history.

I am afraid to open the link, because in my mind the first sentence of the main body of the article says "Norwood Teague, the Athletic Director at the University of Minnesota, has resigned."

And I don't want to find out that's not true.

I guess I've never been drunk enough to hit on someone via text message.  Of course, I'm probably too old; we have flip phones when I was in college, so everything came out as "U r sp456 h1ttttt+!"
