Minick tells a story about Hackett: lip-readers needed

Submitted by vbnautilus on

In the interest of knowing absolutely everything possible about the recent coaching search and its aftermath, it's time for us all to come together and pool our intellectual resources. We can not let inconsequential details like those contained herein to languish undiscovered.

As Bando Calrissian pointed out in the "Coach is in Pittsburgh" thread, NFL.com has published a short video of the Harbaughs and Jim Minick walking into tonight's game.  In the clip, Minick appears to be telling John Harbaugh a story about something that happened in Hackett's office.

Here is the clip in question:

I've taken the audio of the important part and cleaned up some of the background noise to make it easier to hear:

Here's an attempted transcript:

Minick: So I'm going about meeting with Hackett, meeting with Hackett in his office, and he says, "The first thing I gotta talk to you about, I just love your <unitelligible>."  Jim says, "All you needed was three hours of <unintelligible>."

John Harbaugh: <laughter>

So, what was it that Hackett loved? Sounds like maybe his tie? Something else? What was the punch line from Jim? I have confidence we can figure this out.

What's strange is "my friend" saw this video on XHarbaugh.com and HarbaughHub.com a few hours ago and told me about it.

Luckily it is the weekend so I could check them out, because the workplace blocks those sites.

I'm all for stalking our coaches and new staff but this just feels... unnecessary at this point. I'm guessing it's all in good fun but transcribing a video to an audio file for a :30 second clip? That's a stretch for even my fandom.

With that being said, I'll be here all night waiting for more recruiting and coaching morsels.

Scary on the boards, starting to seem a little stalkish with the coach.

I know everyone on here is ready for football Now, but don't you think that maybe lip reading and soundbytes are a little intrusive on the coach. Wasn't there a list earlier of crazy fan bases? We don't want Michigan on it.

My Guess: recruiting on first word and maybe 3 hours with the recruit 2nd word.

Yeah... no part of the OP's thread suggested he was doing this for fun or joking around. Converting a meaningless sound bite from a video to an audio file is fucking weird to put mildly considering the circumstances. Nothing suggest they were talking about anything Michigan football related.

Well I read it as pretty tongue in cheek but what do I know.

You could hear them talking about Hackett in the original video.  The sound file is only mildly altered from the video.

But I do agree with your sentiment. What two men say in the privacy of a national television broadcast should be left to national television broadcast.

Right on. I really feel like we've all been hanging on to random rumors and unverified tweets/texts for a month during the search. Any clip of him in Michigan jacket still seems fake. He's not going anywhere folks. The future is bright!

Completely agree with this ^^^

I don't get how it is weird or creepy that 3 guys being filmed on national TV in a playoff game are telling what sounds like a good/funny story and people are curious to know what was being said . If they were at dinner and someone was just randomally filming them with their cell phone, yes that would be creepy, stalkerish, or weird.

They knew the cameras were there ...especially being the only three in that immediate area with a big NFL camera in their face but yet they didn't seem too concerned about what was being said.

The OP's question was valid as he was curious, as most people would be within reason...not stalkerish.  Heck, even I was interested in what he was saying when I heard the name "Hackett" and with them smiling and laughing, it sounded like a good story.

Some of you are just wound too tight. Sheesh.

If Mora really is leaving we have a chance at Rosen... But this is based off a Twitter account being deleted? He could just be embarrassed about not having as many followers as JH.

I mean, I didn't throw this thing to the board to have it turn into people trying to figure out what Bill Murray is saying at the end of Lost in Translation, but... I guess that's what we're doing.

This hardly constitutes eavesdropping, as the camera was literally right in front of them (watch the video). The video was posted on NFL.com with sound, and a good portion of it is completely intellibile. The flightaware stuff was a million times "creepier." And if you do think it's over the line, a better word would be "inappropriate." The word creepy is so overused on the internet it's obnoxious.

I think it is time for us to chill out a bit. We are getting dangerously close to being the first fan base in history to get a restraining order to stay 50 yards away from its head coach. Can see it now, "well folks, we are here at the Big House and as you can see the first 10 rows of the Big House are empty in accordance with the judge's order"

I could have swore I heard him say "I just love your tan, all you need is three hours of sun". then again I have gotten maybe three hours of sleep in the past two days.

I kept hearing "dad, I just love your dad".. Everyone said Jack Harbaugh played a huge role in landing Jim.. Could have been something related to that. I would not go so far to call this creepy, we hear on an nfl sound bite the Harbaugh brothers talking about Hackett of course we are gonna want to know what they are saying.
