are fucking idiots as said. It's just stupid and endangers lives. There is no point in being nice or polite for cases like that. It's an awful thing to do and people that do it don't need coddling, they need to be deterred from ever driving drunk again.

To rationalize the cons of drinking if one has a drinking problem or is an alcoholic. But swearing, and or yelling and beating on stuff with a stick,(I would've said" beating on fucking shit with a stick",but I'm not angry )always gets the point across more better.

I think it's acceptable to get really angry and even to swear when confronted with yet another idiot who drank way too much and got behind the wheel. And had an accident.

Will all those who a month ago said not to be down on Minick because we dont have all the info and for all we know he was stone sober and this was the police acting aggressively come back today and say "damn that's just awful Minick"...or no?

Legal Probation Addressed Here
Looking for Harbaugh to fire his friend from football operations. Really 8 drinks! That kind of poor judgement could mean he has done this before and finally got caught. He also lied to police, which seems to not be a crime legally, but it is poor behavior for University leadership positions. Luckily there were no injuries except to his University provided truck.

for a first offense, even with a high BAC, most jurisdictions won't give jail time as long as nobody got crashed into/hurt.

is a 45 day 'hard' suspension of the license and a 'smart start' for his car (must blow into device to drive and while driving it periodically), and substance abuse classes.

.185 is Super Drunk.

That is a pathetic example for the team.  Just shameful.  This is a guy who got behind the wheel not after a couple drinks, but after getting hammered.  8 drinks that must have been doubles.

Heh. Super drunk is both a valid state of being and a legal term. As a legal term, I think the wording is pretty funny. As a state of being, there is definitely a difference between drunk and super drunk.

I'm a bit surprised he only got probation.  I guess it's his first violation, but I'm always bothered by guys who drink and drive.  It's one thing to get wasted, but its another to get behind the wheel of an SUV and swerve all over the road.

But I'm guessing this isn't too atypical despite the his BOC.  Hopefully this was a lapse of judgment and everyone learns from it.

For some reason when I heard the 8 drink thing I got extra bothered. I guess I'm trying to imagine myself getting behind the wheel when I drank that much. I think we can all agree we've been at the point of 2-3 drinks and not really knowing if you're below the legal limit. Surely this guy knew he was driving while impaired. To me, he should be canned.

Eight drinks/.185 should be the headline, not the probation. That's an egregious number.

Someone mentioned this above, but I question if 8 drinks could have gotten him to .185 unless he slammed them very quickly.  For an average-sized guy a single drink adds .025 BAC but you lose .015 per hour (it may very based on how generous the pour is or how strong the beer is) -- so by that math he would have had to have had 8 drinks in one hour to get to .185.  If he had them over 3 hours he would have still have been drunk, but would have been closer to .15 (still well over the limit).

Exactly, and he appears to have made up a story for the cops. I'm not going to tell Harbaugh or, better yet, Hackett how to run the program, but that's unacceptable. He didn't "own" it until he was in front of a judge.

assume guy weighs, say 200 lbs.  a drink is generally defined as a single 12 oz beer, a 1 oz shot of 80 proof liquor, or a 4 oz glass of wine.   each of those adds about .017 % points of booze.   as you mention you burn about .015 % off per hour.   so for this guy he had almost 11 drinks in his system at the time he was measured.  if he took 3 hrs to drink them, then add about another 3 on the night.

now when we tended bar down at charlies we sure weren't pouring 1 oz shots, so depending on what he really drank, he might have only had 5 or 6, but they were loaded.

it depends on who makes the drink and how much they pour. If say my dad makes the drink, you're probably getting two+ shots. So you could say / think you had eight drinks, while actually drinking more.

Either way, if you've had more than one - maybe two with dinner - that should be your trigger for not driving. No way I'd ever get behind the wheel after 8.

What was he thinking? A grow man in his position of authority with so much riding on his decision making including putting his best friend in a really bad spot is out getting hammered. But not only is out getting hammered, which alone would be enough to cause a great deal of embarassment to his best friend, he then gets behind the wheel and drives away.  Then he nearly causes an accident with another motorist and finally he lies about it. WTF was he thinking?

I seriously doubt this was an isolated incident...I can't imagine anyone drinking like that and thinking they can drive unless they are a regular at it or under serious emotional distress.

If he had seriously hurt or killed someone, we all know he'd be fired and serve some jail time. But, because he was fortunate to NOT involve anyone else, he gets probation. I'm sorry, but even if it was my best friend, there would be no other choice but to fire him. There is zero tolerance for this type of behavior.
