Milk posbang?

Submitted by 1464 on

2 things:

I understand the concept of a posbang thread, but what exactly is a 'posbang'?  Is it some mixed acronym type thing?

Second, I bought milk today that expires three days after the Alabama game.  I believe this now counts as football season...

I got so excited that I drank the whole carton.

I must be getting old if people don't know what a posbang is. It's from back when voting on posts affected your point total. It started out with negbang, which sounds like gang bang. There was a troll and people would neg the shit out of him. Someone posted a photo similar to this:

in response to the troll and the term negbang was born. Posbang is the logical opposite of that. People would create threads after big wins and whatnot where everyone who posted could get their point total increased significantly.

That might be the champagne talking after a long celebration tonight, and it might be genuine. Probably a little bit of both. Either way, BlueDragon, LSAClassOf2000, everyone else posbanging for milk I should remember to mention but didn't (sorry)...cheers!

The earliest use of "posbang" I could find was simply meaning "upvote" - from http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/richard-ash-commit-24 on Dec.8 2009. Lutha wrote:

I'm sure Shredder or MTGTM have similar posbang totals for their MS Paint contributions. Does anyone know who has the Mgoblog record for biggest posbang for a single post?

Also, I've seen "Posbang" used to refer to when everyone used to get points for each upvote on one of their comments and so people decided to get together and "posbang" each other - posting over and over again and upvoting each others' posts for the points. Then the event is referred to as a "Posbang."

Actually Google turned up a NSFW use on Feb 26, 2007 and June 21st, 2007 on these pages:

www.videobox.com/flashPage/90431 (NOT SAFE)

http://www.videobox.com/flashPage/2323406/ (NOT SAFE)

The posters use both "Neg bang" and "Pos-bang" to refer to other  posters who are excessively clicking to change the rating of a post over and over again - hence the "banging" expression.

Admittedly, I can't find more than these references so it either didn't catch on or google's cache is insufficient for this sort of research.

...........Or..... we have found what websites Lutha enjoys in his free time.
