Miles Boykin to Notre Dame

Submitted by DoctorDave on

247Sports reports. Said Boykin: “It kind of hit me when I was on my last visit. My mom, I would always ask her after my visits where I should go, because she’d always be with me, and she’d never tell me. She always told me you’d know when you’re on campus. When I was down [at South Bend] the last time, I felt it, and I didn’t need to see any other schools other than Michigan State because they were really close behind.”

Not trying to be rude, but I've missed knowing about this kid. What position, where's he from, how much of a chance did we think we had, etc? I want to know how to react.

We actually thought we might have a chance after he visited for the spring game and was offered. But things had been trending toward Notre Dame for the past few weeks, so the writing was on the wall.

I don't like ND and think Ohio is disgusting but I can deal with them getting players. MSU though? I just don't want to see them get a National foothold on recruiting. We can't let them lose their inferiority complex.

Seems like they're in the bridesmaid phase of building a program. UMHoops had it with near misses on Lubick, every Plumlee and Prather before landing our first big fish in McGary (not counting the late risers here). They've been turning the heads of a lot of top recruits. Another good season and who knows? Needless to say, we need to have a positive year on the field.

with you. They are not landing any major out of state recruits but they are making the short list of players that would have never looked at them before. Life is tough enough fighting for in-state recruits with them in our back yard. We don't need them getting Nationl exposure. This is a big year for us.

is still in that phase in many ways. And yet they have enjoyed a lot more national attention than State and play in a conference that in recent years has more BB prestige than FB prestige.

ND and Ohio have always been getting recruits. I can live that but I agree with the poster above. Seeing recruits visit MSU then commit to us the next day like Chris Clark never gets old.

to Boykins on choosing ND.  South Bend is a real shithole of a city; I know so, having lived just a half-hour away from there much of the last 34 years.

I'm in northern Berrien County.  But you're right about Elkhart being a shithole, too.  When you think about it, northern Indiana is pretty much one long string of shitholes, such as Gary, Portage, LaPorte, Michigan City, South Bend, Elkhart, etc...

UM hoops always had great facilities and A2 going for it. MSU will never have facilities or E. Lansing going for it. MSU might get visits, but they will have a hard time landing elite talent.

The tide will turn against MSU. They are a well coached team and they deserve respect. My point is only that they will have a hard time becoming an elite program over the long haul. I do expect them to be solid, though. Penn State, on the other hand, might return to elite status, but they have a much greater risk of imploding than MSU.

Does anyone know really where we are turning? I haven't heard any names with interest other than the Tate kid? Granted, we are not in a huge need for a WR. As it stands now, we have this coming back in 2015:

Funchess (SR)

Chesson (JR)

Darboh (SO/JR)

Canteen (SO)

Harris (SO)

Ways (SO)

Dukes, Jones, and York will all be RS Sophomores in 2015 I believe.

is probably the only other WR recruit at the moment. They've done well at that position lately and have depth, especially with red shirting. Tate is a 3 star player with the offer sheet of a higher 4 star player and we're generally considered the leader for him at this point.

Michigan is also after Brian Cole who is a very good 2 way player now. We're recruiting him at CB primarily but if he wants to come here and things go well with others he could get a look at WR.

in that now too with the RV industry downturn.

You are right about the string though.  Mishawaka, Angola.  It's just a line of dirt and mediocrity that stretches the 80/90 corridor in IN.
