Mike Weber magazine cover fail by OSU

Submitted by BlueCube on

You would think OSU would take special care sending recruiting materials to Mike Webber after the UM "Amercian" problem. Right?

From Mike Weber's Twitter:

" it isn't fake a coach on the Ohio state staff sent it through direct message"

Also, where has Silverman denied it (I doubt he could publicly say anything since it involves a recruit)?  It's Jeremy Birmingham from 11W that's claiming it's a fake made by some U-M fan and that anything official from OSU always has Urban's signature on it:

"Whichever UM fan made that Sports Illustrated cover for @mikeweber25 did a nice job - it’s a good looking fake, but not official OSU entry."

Believe who you want.  I'll take the side of the recruit says he got it via DM from an OSU coach.

Wow. Yea, I'm with ya in believing information straight from Weber. The 11W staff is usually pretty conservative in breaking any news and wait until they have concrete evidence so I wonder where they got their info. Pretty funny stuff either way.

Worth adding that f you do not specifically highlight a selection of text, Edit > Check Spelling will check spelling of all text in all text layers of the file.

You can also go to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts and make a shortcut (e.g. F7) that makes checking spelling a little easier.  Double bonus!

There's no reason why a school needs to photoshop pictures to recruit a player, it's weird. It's gets even creepier when the fans start to do it.

They took regulations off recruiting and now you HAVE to do this crap just because everyone else is doing it.

You can't fall behind to Alabama, UT, Florida, OSU, etc. just because you think something is dumb or immature. Kids like this crap and that's who they're trying to impress. Why did OSU put me on a magazine cover but Michigan did? They must want me more, I'm more of a priorty to them. Those are the thought processes you're dealing with.

The NCAA deregulated everything and now you can send media guides out the wazzoo, you can send any and every time of material or publication you want. I feel sorry for the mailmen and women because the new NCAA recruiting rules just made their lives a lot harder.

So don't blame Michigan, they're just doing what everyone else is doing whether they like it or not.

I guarantee athletic departments would much rather spend their time and money elsewhere, but it's an arms race. Football departments now hire their own graphic designers and marketing staff! That's crazy.

But you need someone to design, publish, and organize all this crap that no one really needs.

Posted below...this (that) is what I'm talking about.

It's going to further the game between the big schools that can afford to do all of this and the EMU's that can't.

But like I said, these positions are being created all over the country in the Big 5 conferences. I've worked in college athletics fror 8 years now, it's all that was discussed last summer as it was originally supposed to go into effect in August, but I believe it got tabled until the winter/spring...and here it is.

Enjoy, because it's likely hear to stay.

It's brilliant for athletics departments to have their own graphic designers that handle all sports, including football.

It's not brilliant for the NCAA's new rules or non-rules to force individual football teams to have their own graphic designer just to do shit like this.

I'm all about providing employment, but these recruiting tools are totally unnecessary.

Well, between our gaffe and Ohio State, we've turned this poor kid into an All-Amercian who is ready to deilver titles, which would definitely put Weber in an unique position. If this is going to be a strategy for schools moving forward, it might be time to at least run some of these faux covers through additional QC checks before they get sent to prospective recruits.

I thought stuff like this was against NCAA rules.  Did they change them in a purge, or has everyone just stopped caring?
