Mike Shaw released by Redskins
He gets released on the FIRST DAY of rookie mini-camp?! Unless something was very wrong, that seems like an extremely classless and unfair move by the Redskins given that most other teams have already started their mini-camps so it will probably be too late for Shaw to get picked up elsewhere.
I really don't like coach oompa loompa, he invented getting super red on the sidelines before Brian Kelly made it cool.
Hopefully Shaw can find a team that hasn't started camp yet and still has an interest or need. If he does, he can BOUNCE on over. He's good at that.
You automatically assume Washington has done something wrong. It may very well be Shaw's fault.
Just treat it as a non-event and let's move on.
You would have to think either their personnel office is totally screwed up (I wouldn't put it past the 'Skins) and they literally signed too many guys and had to tell somebody to go home or that he did something to immediately piss them off (mouthing off, tardiness, drinking a cold brew in the huddle).
he fumbled the playbook? Ran straight into the camp security guard instead of going around him? Showed up in a Cowboys jersey?
Automatically assuming the Redskins did something stupid is my default setting.
We thought we got a steal on an undrafted Mike Floyd. Or was it Mike Martin? One of those Mike guys, anyway.
Ya, oompa loompas are bad.
I thought that if we were wise we should listen to them.
That's one more day in the NFL than anyone really expected.
Hard to tell why you'd be cut on first day...
Hopefully he can find a home somewhere- but I personally think his chances are slim- hope
I'm wrong!
This from the team that banked their entire future on RG3 and then wasted a pick on Kork when they had many pressing needs. Can't say I'm surprised by anything move they pull.
that drafting Cousins in the 4th was a bad move. In fact, I think getting Cousins there was actually a rare smart move by them. They made a horrible trade to give up their future #1's on a guy who could be great or could flame out ala Leaf, Akili Smith, et. al. Cousins has potential, and it is not a stretch at all to say that he could be a starting NFL QB in a few years. That gives them either A- a good hedge in case RG3 doesn't pan out or is injury prone, or B- good trade bait in the future.
But they're a team that needs more than just a starting QB to be good, and they had few high-ish picks after RG3. It's one thing to pick up another QB late in the draft when you have other needs taken care of, but they took Cousins with their third(!) pick.
I disagree that he'll be good trade bait in the future. The only way they trade him is if RG3 is good and Cousins never plays. Who is going to give up anything decent for a guy who a year or two from now is 25 with no in-game experience? The 2013 draft will be much deeper at QB and after then he'll be completely forgotten about, when the Redskins could have had a solid defensive player or receiver instead.
False. The common ingredient to most of the flame outs like Leaf and Smith is they had rocks between their ears. RG3 is one sharp kid. Absent injury I see no way he will be a flame out. At worst, he'll struggle picking up D packages for a bit, but I see this guy being a solid, Vick-like starter for a long while.
Do they even practice (as opposed to just stretch, warm-up, get physicals, etc) on the first day? I don't think so. Could be he just showed up gimpy, heavy, or somesuch. Otherwise, I can't imagine they'd have enough info to cut him cold.
Maybe he failed a physical...or more likely, jacked Kurk Cousins in the face when he got there, then thinking his job was done, left.
I don't care that you spelled Kirk's name wrong. That image in my head made me laugh out loud (at work, mind you). You could have got me into trouble.
In conclusion, +1.
I'm curious to know what your work environment is like. Mime's cannot laugh out loud at work. Are you a mime?
Actually no, but when you are sitting in your own office and then burst out laughing in a realm of silence with a handful of offices around you, it wouldn't take much to come up with the conclusion that something unrelated to work prompted me to laugh out loud. Also, 90% of my workload is done via computer, so assumptions can be made.
I guess I must add that reading mgoblog during work hours would be frowned upon by my superiors.
Too bad. I think he could make it in NFL Europe, or in Canada.
NFL Europe doesn't exist anymore.
Well then, I guess the fact that I didn't even know that shows why it was ended in the first place.
has never made anything cool, especially with his asinine sidline antics
Maybe they took the wrong Mike Shaw?
Considering that he had maybe 40 carries in his whole college career, it doesn't really seem like a team would take him intentionally.
I'm pretty sure he had more than 40 carries in a single season. Probably well over a hundred for his career... enough to show a team something, even if it is running laterally very quickly or fumbling a few times.
You are correct. He actually AVERAGED over 40 carries per season and finished with 190 for 1,001yds. Unless of course one were to blackout the entire RR era, in which case Shaw only had 31 carries for 199yds
Can he now refer to himself as a "former Washington Redskin?"
"Son, let me tell you about my NFL career..."
My take is that it was a pretty fucking classless move on Washington's part. Hopefully, he catches on somewhere else.
He will catch on in the CFL or AFL or UFL or something.
I hate the redskins as much as anyone, but it was a miracle Shaw even got a look for one practice. Shaw seemed like a good guy and I am glad that he wore the maize and blue, but his resume does not exactly scream NFL. As another poster said, he made to one more NFL practice than most of the people that have ever played football.
Didn't think he would last long. Might have a good CFL career.
Either way, Shaw will surely BOUNCE back
