Did anyone else hear that play whistled before Martin got in the backfield? It looked like UMass' offensive line pulled up too.
landing spot. will be interesting to see how he does.
Every one heard it.
glad I'm not crazy. Where'd it come from?
I thought it was going to end up being a penalty on Martin for not stopping after the whistle...
I'm sure someone who sits in the student sections knows this, but I was told that the Michigan band director has a whistle that he blows to tell the band when to start and stop playing. Since the band is now mic'd up, the whistle could be heard around the stadium and on the field if the mic's are not turned off at the correct time.
The band director does not use a whistle at all. This information is incorrect.
-was in the band from 05-08
I was just suggesting a possible theory I was told. I have season tickets at the oppisite end of the stadium so I've never been close to the band. Thank you for confirming that the band director does not have a whistle in a non-childish fashion. I'm looking at you mr. manwiththemoves
you really could not have come up with a more retarded theory.
That is why I said, "I was told," so I wasn't trying to confirm anything. I also asked if anyone in the student section knew of this possible whistle. You don't need to get your panties all up in a bunch.
I am a BANANA
Glad to hear an explanation of this. I was pretty sure I heard a non-referee whistle quite often during the game. I wonder if it affected the players at all.
Yeah, i definitely thought I heard a whistle. But Martin deserved that after getting blatantly hogtied on an earlier play, right in front of the official. I considered it a makeup.
for all of the non-calls.
No kidding. I just wonder which time you are talking about? You have about a dozen choices.
Yeah, there were a few candidates for that. The worst was one pass play where he was alone in the backfield, in plain view of the official, and the hold clearly affected the play (the QB was almost certainly going to be sacked). UMass completed a pass for a decent gain. If you're not going to flag a play like that, you may as well not bother at all.
I heard the whistle ...i assumed it came from a fan but who knows....It was very light.
coach was complaining about the whistle after the play. I sit way the top and I heard it.
I was certain the play had been whistled dead myself and the way Martin tossed him around like a rag doll, I thought we'd be walking off yardage.
Whistle or no whistle, Mike Martin was a beast yesterday. He was routinely double-teamed and when he wasn't, he blew up plays and was on the QB. I don't know why he wasn't playing more though. Anyone have any insight on this? By the topic, I though this post would be more about the play of MM, not just one play in particular.
My Dad works at the stadium and over the radio there was a report that someone in the lower part of the stands on the northeast side had a whistle and ended up being escorted out. I don't know if that was it but who knows.
That's where I heard it come from, but I didn't see anyone get escorted out.
that location makes perfect sense, definitely the direction it came from. Sounded like 2-3 sections towards the goal posts from the band.
