Mike Martin puts up 500lb. on the bench at Barwis Methods. Pretty amazing...
EDIT: not sure why the embed didn't work, but I posted the link instead.
MARTIN....SMASH!!!
It's been a lot. Its been a roller coaster that for some reason seemed like it would never get good. But you know what? We kept fighting. It's like that old saying goes, "Those Who Stay Will Be Champions." -David Molk
The most impressive part of this rep is that his grip is extremely close! His triceps must be so strong. If you watch professional weightlifters, their grips are much wider than Martins. Pretty damn tremendous!
Disgruntled former moderator. I got a lot of problems with you people!
Powerlifters will bring their grip in to shoulder width similar to a push up. You retract the lats, bring the elbows towards the body more and it give you more power. You might see other guys who are trying to body build take a wider grip and bring their elbows out like a "T" from their body. This puts more pressure on the shoulder and has less useful applicability to Mike's move off the line (he would have his hands closer to when delivering a blow to the offensive lineman). All that said, this was an impressive lift by Mike.
Not bad, but I saw the Incredible Hulk throw a city bus down the street once. Something for MM to really shoot for I guess.

I once saw the Hulk put out a fire by clapping his hands. Now that's impressive.
"Over? Did you say, over? Nothing is over until we decide it is!"
Looks like he could do a little more. I heard he was going to try to break the combine record.
"im saying to myself should i do it should i not. I crossed the goaline and hey...fuck it" Desmond Howard on his Heisman pose
I am not sure at the point what a little more is, but you're right...he absolutely can do it
when he decides to curl the 235 lbs (or whatever the standard weight is) instead of benching it.

225 is standard. But I agree with the rest, he definitely has more left.
Van Bergen cut his hair!!! No!!! The flow!!!
RVB actually addressed that in a recent interview. He said something about trying the flow this past year before the divots up top got too big (to the point where he'd have a Dana Holgorsen "skullet"). He's probably moving to the next level (so to speak) with his 'do.
"500 channels and nothing but cats."
I think Molk was also calling him an "asshole" as some kind of motivation at the beginning of the clip.

When I first read the title I thought it said "Mike Martin is 500 lbs" and I was like whatever thats just in his biceps.
Not that I loved Rich Rod less, but that I loved Michigan more.
for a rest. Good night Irene!
The Blog, the Blog, the Blog!
Definitely shows why he had to be double teamed (and often held, too). I hope Molk and Van Bergen recover from their injuries and can be 100% soon.
That just makes me want to eat Doritos or something. Maybe I'll take a nap. There's no point in trying to compete!
Should we point instead of fist pump during the Victors?
How do people like MM use everyday items? I feel like he would try to pick up a pencil and snap it in half. Open the door for an old lady and take it off its hinges. Martin smash
"What" ain't no country I ever heard of. They speak English in What?
That's a pretty narrow grip. I'd bet he could do more with a more conventional grip, and this might be training specifically for the combine bench.
You might be right, but that may just be how he's accustomed to benching. A lot of football players and football weight training focus on pushing motions utilizing more of the triceps to simulate how you'd keep your elbows inside to block or bull-rush.
I wonder ... would that narrow grip serve a DT well when working against offensive linemen? I think I recall seeing something about DT's keeping their arms in close to leverage OL off their blocks.

Jesus. I just recently got on a lifting routine for the first time in my life and that makes me feel like a tiny tiny person.
As impressive as this is, Mike is about 85lbs below former DL Will Johnson who nearly benched 600lbs (585 to be exact).
Thanks for nothing.

Does anyone expect the Barwis-Michigan connection to continue once the RichRod generation of recruits have won multiple B1G titles and graduated?
I'm also curious - are these guys still in school? Mike Martin clearly has some NFL future. Has he graduated, or is he in full NFL draft mode now?
Lamarr Woodley trains there, as do many other Michigan Alumni NFLers who didn't actually train with Barwis as undergrads. I think he established a relationship with a lot of the alums while he worked at Michigan and word of mouth goes a long way. You want to train with someone you're comfortable with.
Plus, a lot of the alums are from the state, so they can work out there while they visit family, etc. I think it'll definitely continue.
Can't speak as to who has graduated yet, I dunno.

I think Larry Foote started training with Barwis during the offseason couple years ago. Since then more former players and other NFL guys have chosen to train with Barwis.

...Martin, Molk and RVB have all graduated. I know Koger is still in school. Not sure about Hemingway.

that's two 250 lb guys, good enough to hold up against a college double team. good enough for a 3tech in the pros?

That is a shit ton of weight. Last week, I put up 285, which was a personal best. Now I just feel like a little girl.

I be like dang. I hope he MARTIN SMASHES the combine.
Michigan Resurgent? Michigan Resurgent!
The beatings will continue until the uniforms improve!
I'm about 250, lifting two of me just sounds insane. There are good odds that he breaks the combine rep record. Isnt Richardson from 'Bama a freak of nature too? it'd be interesting to see these two benching.
hmm, maybe I *don't* have what it takes to go pro...
He knows Martin could throw up 500 lbs dumbells if he wanted.... he just doesn't want to leak the footage before the combine so it'll be a surprise.
Awesome...Now what weight did Cambell recently bench? Was it 370?
EDIT* Yes it was

Hope that was his warm up
