Going to be hilarious to watch OSU fans try to spin this one. Urban lost their top target at TE whose older brother already plays for OSU to this guy:

Feeling I get from OSU boards is that they wanted him badly, thought he was a lock, and a significant amount preferred him to Baugh. Don't kid yourself, this is a loss for Meyer and the Buckeyes. Word is Jaylon Smith is also leaning towards ND, and OSU fans have been salivating over him and thought he was a lock.
Yeah I forgot that they were looking for two TEs this year. It would be nice to see some of these guys leave the midwest though.
I'm missing something. Why would it be good for the talent of the midwest to leave?
I understand winning the B1G is goal #1 (and 2 and 3.) But, would it really feel good to beat up on a bunch of sissies?
I would prefer that the B1G keep all of its local talent (which I think Nebraska will help) and then stock up on players from the lands of the SEC, PAC and Big12. After all, the only thing better than one ring, is two.

At first I agreed with you, but you took it a bit too far. I will not dispute that almost all of us over at 11w (probably 90-95%) wanted Heuerman, but I don't recall anybody saying that they preferred him to Baugh. We wanted both, but Baugh was already in so there was no talk of preference.
As to Jaylon Smith, Buckeye fans are no doubt salivating over him and willing to leave a spot open for him, but we've been told from the beginning that he is NOT a Buckeye lock. If you go over to 11w no one is expecting Jaylon to be a Buckeye. We certainly hope he is, but he seems to be leaning ND pretty hard.
But in general terms I think you have fairly represented the Buckeye community.

dont you know, Urbs cooled on him right before the announcement.
a commitable offer anyway....

this is one of my favorite Urban Meyer/Ohio memes of late. But you both forgot, "If Urban would have wanted him, Urban would have gotten him."
Didn't their father play UM basketball for Johnny Orr or something?
I could see this coming back to bite Urban Meyer in the Butt.

I doubt he would appreciate being the Butt of your Tight End joke...

Not to Butt in here, but we're gonna need to pace ourselves on the puns.
It sounds to me like you're making a pretty big ass-umption there.
It is spelled HOKEAMANIA. Our coach is an ass-kicking American citizen, not one of the Beatles, for Christ's sake!

You don't need to make a stink about his crack, I'm sure he worked hard on it
My username is spelled "mgordoblue", but it's pronounced "Throat Warbler Mangrove".
...that Urban Meyer missing out on Tight Ends means that his boyish good looks are finally fading and he is no longer successful recruiting grad assistants.

I just love that if we're not getting a recruit we always prefer him to go to ND. That program is a joke. How much longer can tradition keep them on the national stage, especially if they are forced to join a conference and lose their NBC exclusive agreement?

HA! I use a friend's insider account for Scout so I can read general articles, but hes subscribed to Ohio so I have access to their insider board. Nevadabuck is their main info supplier for recruiting and was saying he was ALL BUCKEYE. He's (NevadaBuck) an absolute moron and it is fun watch them follow every word he says and freak out when its wrong. Good luck to Heuerman at ND.
Heureman essentially told other recruits and the staff that he was committing to OSU this week. He obviously had a change of heart, which is fine - but the information was legit.
There are many not-so-nice things to say about Nevada, but his information when it comes to OSU recruiting is as good as it gets.
Heureman is a tough loss since he seems like a great kid, but having Baugh in this class takes a lot of the sting away in terms fo the impact on the TE position. Hopefully we use the spot for an OL or WR instead.
He does come in with a good amount of quality recruiting info, but hes been wrong with his classic "=====" like 3 times already this year. What I cant stand the most (and its probably because I'm a diehard fan of the rival but...) is when he gives his big hoo-rah posts on how Urban Meyer WILL have the best class and IS the GREATEST recruiter ever. But, I'm sure that is just to keep the nuts happy.
He is as big of a homer as it gets (but I don't think he pretends to be otherwise - he is just a "fan" with connections, instead of a recruiting analyst), but I've learned to just focus on the information and take his additional commentary with a grain of salt. Bill Greene is a great recruiting analyst though.
Just so many elite offensive lineman left to use that extra scholarship on. Oh wait, no there's not, Michigan got 'em all. Then again, every time a recruit chooses another school over OSU it does take a little sting off those scholarship reductions, I'm sure.
How exactly do you know that the "information was legit." None of it came to fruition, and this is classic insider BS. The information was legit, but recruiting is fluid and things change. While absolutely true, this is also used as license to say practically anything you want; "when I told you, the information was rock solid, but how am I supposed to know what goes on in the head of a high schooler."
No offense meant here (seriously), but when did Urban Meyer start caring about if his recruits were "good kids?" I hope that was in jest because that's laughable.
Unbelievably, you seem to be an alright Buckeye fan, but even you know better than that. You guys sold your souls to one of the only coaches slimier than Tresslon, and paid top dollar to do it, even though he was going to go there anyway. Urban Meyer doesn't give a rat's behind about kindness.

So he commits to ND today, but where will he transfer to in 18-24 months?
I'm significantly less excited about a rival missing out on a recruit when he's going to our next biggest rival.
I've stopped worrying about ND getting a big time recruit at all. ND always gets great recruits and what have they done with all of them over the past 5 years? Noth-ing
Well the problem is that eventually ND is going to stumble by accident into an acutal good coach that will turn all that underdeveloped talent into a great team.
I know we've done well against ND lately in terms of wins and losses, but let's not pretty we've blown them out every year. The last three years, ND might have been one big recruit away from beating us each year.
I'd like to get to the point where we beat up on ND even when the breaks don't go our way. I'm not saying we won't get there, but we won the last three by the skin of our teeth, and needed some things to go our way to get there.
Oh I know we got lucky, I'm talking about their seasons in general. They've been consistently loaded each year. I'll start being worried when they start being consistently good. Like actually winning 9-11 games each year or something like that. Until then, South Bend is just a blackhole for talent as far as see it
Well one more big play by them each of the last 3 years against us and they would have 3 wins instead of 3 losses against us... so I would say these things could make a difference, yeah.
In the last 5 years, we are 35 and 28 with two bowl wins and one loss. They are 32 and 31 with two bowl wins and one loss. In the last 6 years though, we are 42 and 34 with 2 bowl wins and losses; they are 42 and 34 with 2 bowl wins and losses. According to your measurement, we are barely more relevant than they are.

Well OSU will probably secure Pocic, who is elite.

before these ND recruits wake up and say, "wtf! I committed to ND" and bolt for another school. ND seems to be good for a couple decommits a year.
With us wanting more than 2 TE's and him being a legacy (obviously that does not really mean a whole lot especially when his brother chose Ohio) why did we never offer him? Because he is in Florida and we lack connections there? If Urban is recruiting him doesn't that generally mean is a highly ranked recruit? Seems odd he doesn't list a Michigan offer (on Rivals).

Do you know we want more than 2 TEs? It seems as though we haven't made a push for any new TEs in a while. There were a couple guys we were still in on after we had Hill and Butt, but considering they picked other schools it's unclear how badly we really wanted another one.
Yes, we might not have wanted one. I based that off the speculation that Ace and Aquaman (or whoever it is that runs their blog) had about the TEs and the fact that we were offering more after we got the two committments. However, we stopped offering other TE's and those we were still pursuing picked other schools, so maybe we really weren't that interested in another TE. With us turning away LB's (from visits) after we seemed likely to land Gedeon, I thought we would have just told the other TE's we were still full and not recruited them any more.

Well with Baugh, I don't think they'll be missing him all that much.
