Mike Farrell tweets re: Kendall Fuller & Derrick Green

Submitted by Mr. Rager on

Say what you will about the guy - but he got EJL and Poggi correct, and he has some good connections.   It seems as if the last two spots will come down to Treadwell, McQuay, and Green.  FWIW he thinks Clemson will get Fuller.

zero clue so far and I don't think he knows@thoughtzbyod@rivalsmike What are your thoughts on the destination of Derrick Green?

two horse race here it seems@ryan_adams76@rivalsmike what about Michigan? Kendal has them high also any possibility he goes there?

It was clear?  Seriously?  Your hindsight is greater than 20/20 man.  I have clear memories of this board and The Fort (rivals' board) following his press conference in the Arnett / that DL who chose PSU mold.

If Michigan wants two more guys, I think they'll have to get Treadwell and offer someone new. I don't foresee Green or McQuay picking Michigan in the end.

Chances are you are probably correct.  Treadwell is a heavy UM lean, but Green still has a ton of schools in play and McQuay is less than 50% with Vandy and USC both serious options.

I still wonder if they will offer Delano Hill if both Green and McQuay go elsewhere.

There is a very very good chance that Michigan will be filled up by the time either wants to decide, and the staff will probably not save a spot for them

That's hindsight.  Same as "obviously Garnett was going to Stanford; he identified more with their med school."  Obviously EJL had a tough call with many factors favoring both UM/FSU.  Ultimately, his major may have won out, but as Magnus said, many, many UM fans thought other factors were going to tip the scales towards AA.

I saw Fuller had a Clemson paw print shaved into his head on one side (didn't see the other side though).  I think Michigan is just too far away for him.  Clemson is far too but the Big 10 feels like another world from Maryland/Virginia.  Plus O'Daniel is obviously a Clemson commit, somebody I wish we would've went after more instead of supposedly putting Levenberry ahead of him on the board.

Derrick Greens relationship with Dawson definitely helps, plus the fact that he's attending the BBQ at the Big House.  Speaking of the BBQ, is Treadwell attending as well?

Treadwell is the most likely out of the mentioned recruits.  However, with Treadwell still visiting schools I'm not so sure he's a lock.  Hopefully this years class will have a strong finish to go with the strong start.  Last year was a bit of a downer on signing day.

It was pretty much universally a downer when we lost a couple big battles at the end last year. Let's not pretend we all didn't feel that way. But it was an amazing class, and I don't see anything he said contradicting that. We should temper any disappointment with the fact recruiting has been stellar since Hoke came; with that I completely agree with you. I do not think there's any worry about Hoke losing late battles.

With at least one everyone here is hoping is filled long before signing day. How can it NOT be a disappointment if there's no one left to sign on signing day? The original point was silly. It doesn't matter when you sign them. Signing day was a success, as it will be this year, by keeping everyone who committed.

was just to defend his comment about let downs at the end of last year. Diamond. Garnett. Kozan. Let's not attack the guy for what we were all saying at that time. None of it is a concern now, nor really was then with some perspective. I don't like how quickly this board jumps on people for what were previously commonly held views. And then things change in six months and people are getting all upvotes for what used to be trolling.

"we all felt that way" is projecting, and that's the problem. Where there a subset of people who freaked out and found the whole recruiting class disappointing because the only last minute get was Norfleet?  Sure. But was there a subset who still saw a top 5/10 rated class and said "awesome"? Yup. I don't think we all felt that way. I don't think Brownbear did. I didn't. Of the 3 Garnett was a big disappointment, but you couldn't argue with his school choice. I'm wasn't thrilled with how he played some recruitniks, or how they bothered him enough to be played, but it was what it was.  The other two didn't freak me out. After all their games I wouldn't have turned them down, but I wasn't broken up by their decisions (I'm not even sure...has Kozan decided yet?). Particularly Diamond, who has fishy written all over him in that recruitment. I don't mind missing out on those blue chippers. They're probably not going to fit in anyway.

So yeah, people meltdown. But yeah, at the time there are still people saying "chill, we just killed it in recruiting."

or Treadwell, for that matter. Sam Webb was fairly pessimistic about both Green and Fuller coming here on his roundup yesterday, with the usual caveats about having a puncher's chance if Green can meet Hoke, etc. etc. Treadwell is certainly more likely than either of those two to come here, but now that he has backed off his declaration of making a decision soon, it looks as though the process is going to drag out a while longer. Given his relationships with Morris and other UM players, the fact that he still can't bring himself to pull the trigger makes me think that his family ties in Oklahoma—and his supposed affection for Okie State's offense—might be the sticking points.

I can see where you're going, but I disagree.  Michigan's offense will be a west coast, pass heavy offense by the time Morris and Treadwell will be playing.  Not to mention he will potentially have one of the best QBs in the nation throwing to him if he comes here, protected by one of the best offensive lines.

OkSt would be a solid choice, but I don't think they will be where we will be in 3-4 yrs.

I don't know if I would say it will be "pass heavy."  Maybe balanced.  Michigan's not bringing in two (and what they want to be three) running backs in the 2013 class so they can pass the ball 60 times a game.

Regardless, Oklahoma State runs out an elite receiver virtually every year.  Justin Blackmon, Rashaun Woods, and Dez Bryant are three first round receivers in the last decade, and Brandon Pettigrew was a first round tight end.  Even their #2 receiver has caught about 70 balls the past couple seasons.

OSU might present a slight advantage for WR based purely on FB (which is what you are commenting on) because of their hurry-up pass-based offense that allows QBs and WRs to put up gaudy numbers.  But from everything else, such as academic reputation and quality of living (for a college student anyway) the comparison is like night and day.  Stillwater is a small city in rural Oklahoma.  In surveys it traditionally ranks at or near the bottom of Big 12 college towns (and remember, this includes--or did include-- such wonderful metro areas as Lubbock, TX, Waco TX, and Ames, IA). If you're a redneck who likes country music, chewing tobacco, and getting in drunken fights with guys in cowboy hats, this might just be the place for you.  Otherwise, not so much.

I can identify with recruits who only want to go where they have the best chance to make it in the Pros. Academics are a secondary concern and the town/area/campus life is maybe an afterthought to a lot of kids who believe they are on the cusp of pro stardom. Recruits often say to the public that academics and social life are important criteria, and to some recruits they are, but I have hosted enough recruits to know that behind closed doors it is almost always about one thing: get me to the pros as efficiently as possible. I would not fault anyone who thinks that way.

Magnus

July 10th, 2012 at 1:29 PM ^

True, but Treadwell would be the highest ranked of all of them.  Not that rankings guarantee success, of course, but there are lots of balls to go around.  If he's not the type to be afraid of competition, then he can probably see the opportunity to catch 100 balls there and become their future first round product.

Treadwell is coming to the BBQ.  It looked like he still saw Michigan as a leader, but he wanted to visit other schools to make sure since he can't since he gets committed.  I don't know why we feel he's going elsewhere.  Some people just don't decide 8 months before signing day.

Maybe because its happened way too often that they pick a different school. Like Isaac, became a U of M lean early on, created lots of good relationships with coaches and recruits, made a lot of visits to AA and ends up taking 1 or 2 visits to USC and commits to them. A lot of us are waiting for a school to sweep him off his feet.
