Mike Farrell of Rivals just went full butthurt.

Submitted by MichiganNomad on

For those of you who roam the Twittersphere, check out the timeline of @RivalsMike after Sam Webb announced the Henry Poggi committment this morning. It's pretty entertaining.

Oh, and now Sam himself has fired a shot across the bow:

@rivalsmike @tombeavergbw @MGoShoe 1st, quit crying. 2nd I have a text from Coach Poggi giving me the okay to go with the story when I did

I agree, but at the same time, this is happening because of the recruiting services, not Michigan. I don't think it will affect us, just the rep of the recruiting services, in particular the people involved (if it continues to go negative). Michigan had nothing to do with his announcement leaking or getting scooped..

All it really hurts is the offending recruiting services.  The coach can cut off access/scoops to them if he wants, and instruct his players not to talk to Recruiting Service X.  All these bickering recruiting guys are really doing is shitting in their own pool.

Farrell questioned Webb's ethics regarding the announcement. Webb responded with the "quit crying" tweet and it's gone back and forth from there. Not breaking news but good for some early morning entertainment.

Farrell is still a douche! If I saw him, I'd punch him in the face...he even looks like a tool in his twitter picture. I bet he refers to himself in the 3rd person when he's home alone.

This is so funny by the way, grown men arguing via twitter...and over the announcing of a 17 year old kid. What has this world come to?

Anywho...

I know you're supposed to be passionate about your job, but in some cases (Beaver and Farrell) it just shows that some screws are loose...

This twitter war is great.  We now have Mike Farrell asking Sam to tweet the text he has giving him permission to run the story.  I love this!

Grown men arguing about the "right" to say where a high school kid is going to college?  Players just shouldn't tell anyone other than the coaches till they announce it themselves, because all thre rest are just leeches making a career off of their decisions. It's kinda embarrassing all around.

Edit: And it sounds like Sam is missing segments of the radio show to conduct a tweet war. Sounds professional. Everyone needs to grow up.

Yes, poor show by Sam to respond.  Let the guy be butthurt and ignore him.  Farrell is irrelevant and Sam basically just let himself be trolled.  Those kind of accusations only matter when someone named Poggi complains about the timing of the announcement.  Two grown men shouldn't be doing a he said/she said over a high school kid.

To be honest That is part of their livelihood and I assume they make good money doing so. The players have to trust the people they talk to about their recruiting, so if someone in the business attacked me and how i run my business I'd respond about the same way.

Webb and Farrell had a beef that went back well before this.  They had a recent argument over something else (believe it was EJL) in which Webb made some pretty intense statements to Farrell.  Webb not looking good in this, imo.

(I am a Rivals sub, but I hate Farrell so I am not really biased)

I posted the same thing, 2 minutes later (when I was looking for my MJ - popcorn .gif), just above this post.

You know you're an ass when two people (who don't know each other) call you a douche at the same time, based on your Twitter profile picture.

Farrell and Dantonio...I'd love to see them in a caged death match where both lose. Because I'd be the winner. Both of them are truly the definition of "tool" and "douche"...both are overused in today's world, however, if you all want a true use for them...Mark Dantonio and Mike Farrell.

...since this topic is ridiculous and I've turned it into my personal .gif thread (all others are welcome to join)

Dantonio as a kid...even then everyone hated him.

As long as it doesn't piss off the Poggi family I really don't care who was right or wrong in this. I may be in the minority here, but this is a little ridiculous in my opinion.

The Daily's Stephen Nesbitt should have the final word here:

Farrell is, in fact, being a baby; the Poggis sent out a text this morning and Webb was already up and on the radio... hence, his "scoop" or whatever.

Well, mvictors has written about the rivalry between Scout and Rivals -- specifically, through a Sam Webb interview:

MVictors: How is your relationship right now with The Wolverine guys? I notice you don’t really sit together at most press conferences.

Sam Webb: I will be candid with you. It is not a friendly rivalry.

MVictors: Why do you think that is?

Sam Webb: It’s probably rooted in their conflict with Tom Beaver [Ed. Discussed in another portion of the interview, Beaver had a falling out with the folks at an earlier incarnation of The Wolverine] but by extension by everyone else is drawn in. Any attack on GoBlueWolverine, even if it’s just intended for Tom, is an attack on me. I can tell you that I don’t have any issues with most of the guys over there. One guy in particular I think has been extremely petty. With me, I think it’s a straight up competition. If you beat me, you beat me. I’m not one of those guys that just cries if I get beat, I say you beat me. Not everyone is like that. Some people can’t take the ‘L’. I can take the ‘L’ if I am beat legitimately ... I think The Wolverine publication is an outstanding publication. I think their yearbook is still the best Michigan yearbook out there. It’s outstanding. I think John Borton is a good writer and I have a tremendous amount of respect for Josh Helmholdt. I have respect for what they do. One guy in particular I just don’t think he competes the right way. I think he does sneaky, conniving sort of things.

...and it continues from there...

Sam was not calling out Farrell, nor was Sam arguing with anyone. Sam simply ran with forethought and calculation giving Farrell enough rope to hang himself; and, Farrell obliged with a public attempt to justify the strategy of lying with impunity. (Farrell was saying, "Show me the tweet" to paraphrase it; even though Farrell knew he had no exclusive from Coach Poggi.)

The thought process Farrell routinely employs is now made apparent by Sam's intervention:  for, as a result of Farrell's self-deluded attempt at plausible deniability (as if Farrell could persuade others he perhaps mistakenly thought he had an exclusive), it is now known Farrell would wish to boost his work-place status at the expense of people who are simply trying to make an honest living. Sam quite capably with perfect calculation defended those trying to make an honest living by exposing the hypocrisy of Farrell in the only self-evident proof available; and I for one am grateful he took a coward to task and won the day by showing the value of consistency with the power of a belief in justice.

Sam indeed does have a hilariously big mouth at times, Balas is a terrible human being, and Farrell is constantly choking on his own vapors.

But Sam is good people, doesn't make stuff up, and can be relied upon to - in my experience - always act with integrity. He's a good guy who is smart enough to know how to act consistently and follow an ethical code (that takes mental horsepower). And I don't think Sam has ever done wrong where any recruit is concerned.

The Wolverine was around first, and GoBlue came around doing the same thing. I'm not surprised they're not buddies. And with Beaver being flipped, that probably didn't help.

The problem was when they bought out by the recruiting sites and became an arm of that rather than an just a publication. Now it's more about the slimey recruiting side, than the feature and info side it used to be about.

And Sam's wrong....the Wolverine publication isn't the best annual out there.  ;-)
