Miguel Cabrera reaches 2,000 hits at age 31
Miguel needed four hits going into today's game, and he got them. With two outs in what would likely be the Tigers last at-bat in the bottome of the 8th, Torii Hunter singled to extend the inning, bringing up Cabrera.
In style, Miggy drilled the first pitch into the left field seats for number 2,000. The man should be promoted to Interstellar League Baseball, but for now I will watch every at-bat I can of this dude.
It's not that far-fetched. Sure, if he retired tomorrow, he wouldn't go down as the best Tiger or hitter of all time. But if he can continue on this pace for a bit, he'll have a good argument.
Cabrerra is the best baseball player ever, only fatter.
The best of all time? A hitting machine? Like this guy:
I see ya big fella!! It's a privlige to watch him play. I hope he has no lingering issues from his groin surgery because I feel he's just getting better and better every year.
30 for 2 more weeks. Maybe the OP is in life insurance since his insurance age would already be 31. Or he rounded.
In the future, where I am from, Miggy is already 31.
By the way, Denard Robinson said to say hello.
DO WE GET FLYING CARS?
Yup. Change the title to "before 31" OP. Ninth guy ever to do this.
2,000? That is it? Dude is overrated.
I admire the way he approached the problems he had before. and put it behind him. He will go down as one of hte greats before his careeer is over.
Meanwhile Joba has an ERA of Infinity!
Pitchers | IP | H | R | ER | BB | SO | HR | PC-ST | ERA |

J Chamberlain | 0.0 | 3 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 9-8 | INF |
Ohh.. Now it's 54.00
There was something strangely poetic about his 2,000th hit being a no-doubt home run over the fence in left-center, at least in my opinion. Miguel has been a huge part of the Tigers' run of success in these last several years and it has been a blast to have him on this team. His contributions are always much appreciated obviously.
He just...hits. That's all there is to it. But not only that, he USUALLY hits with power. He's the worst nightmare of every pitcher in baseball.
Congrats to Miggy!
Totally not worth it.

Should sign this guy to a long term extension....
...wait...
p.s. shows just how crazy good you have to be to get 3000 hits - the Boggs, Brett, Gwynn Jr class. Rose at 4200+ is just unfathomable. Pudge got to 2844.
That's too bad Pudge didn't get to 3,000, but he's got to be in the Hall. It's REALLY hard to be a great hitter when you play the most demanding defensive position.
Now I think he SHOULD, along with Bonds. But I doubt it happens.
but still 2,256 to go to reach Pete. A record that will never be broken IMHO.
I think it can be broken because of the following:
Some of the elite players are reaching the majors earlier after being drafted.
Amature scouting and development has improved tremendously making it easier to fast track some guys.
Players are in better shape than before due to advances in nutrition science and the multi hundred million dollar incentives to stay in shape.
Medical science advancement has has helped players miss less time than injury.
Some players will inevitably try to eek out extra years given the financial incentives
Inevitably there will be expansion. You can argue this won't add more potential record breakers to the mix (expanding the number of players does not expand the number of elite players) but it will make water down the pitching that elite players have to face.
Don't forget the designated hitter
Rose only has 160 HRs. All those years, all those hits, and he hit just 6.5 HRs a year. Agreed, he probably won't best Rose's total hits, but he's on pace to beat Ruth, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Barry Bonds, and Stan Musial. Not in any one statistic, but taken as whole for Hits, HRs, and OPS. Given the ball being used for the majority of his career, Ty Cobb certainly needs to be in the discussion.
Cabrera has his work cut out for him if he wants to be the best hitter ever. But if he stays healthy.....
and will certainly rank as one of the greatest Tiger hitters ever.
For comparison, Al Kaline got his 2,000th hit in 1959. He was 25.
I saw him play
you are wrong. Al Kaline got his 2000th hit in 1966. He was 31 years old. I can't fathom someone having 2,000 hits by 25 unless they're in the majors at the age of 16.
Al Kaline was 25 when he got his 1,000th hit in 59 however.
Yeah, I fucked that one up but good. My boyhood idolization of Kaline clouded my arithmetic skills. Thanks for the correction.
I don't even have to look it up to call bullshit on that. 1000 maybe.
# 1200 in 1959. He hit # 2000 in 1965 a few months after his 30th Bday. If Cabrera stays modertly healthy he'll pass Kaline's total hits sometime in 2020, his home runs sometime in August of this season.
