It wasn't that long ago Miggy appeared close to being a lost cause. Awesome to see someone conquer their demons the way he apparently has. I don't think theres a better ambasador for the game. Who else would do something like this?

This is such a classy gesture by Miggy.  Many people like to criticize pro athletes for being selfish, etc., etc., but this was really cool coming from his heart.  Much like the back in the day Coke ad with Mean Joe Green giving the kid his jersey, but this was REAL!  This kid will probably remember this for a lifetime.

outwardly have as much fun and show so much joy as Miggy does on the field, especially down around the 1st base bag, whether after a single or playing defense.

For those like me who avoid clicks for the Freep:

The kid he gave the bat and glove got on camera when he snagged a foul ball with his hat and started chirping in fun at Cabrera, who, in turn, chirped right back at him.  Then it got even more animated, especially on the part of the kid as he repeatededly pointed at his Indians T-shirt and cap, at which time Miggy gave him a big grin and pounded his own chest and pointed at the kid in approval.

But then it got even better in between innings, when by complete surprise, Miggy trotted out of the Tigers dugout with a bat and batting glove and handed both to the kid.  Of course, the kid ate it up, showing off to all seated near him.  A short time later, FSD sent a cameraman and on-the-field reporter to interview a kid---very fun to watch and listen to.

This is the kind of stuff SportCenter and Baseball Tonight eat up, so I'm sure that, between MLB Network and ESPN, it'll rightfully get plenty of airplay (besides the FSD replay of the game at Midnight).

Miggy is such a great ambassador for the sport of baseball and for athletes in general. Watching him play always reminds me that the true meaning of sports is to have some damn fun and to love what you're doing. He's very similar to Harbaugh in that they both just want to spread their love of the game to others and have a damn good time doing it

in the context of the game, the replay is on FSD right now, from midnight to 2am.  The sequence of events happens in the bottom of inning #5, probably around 1 am or soon thereafter.

He truly is like a kid out there.  Why MLB doesn't have him front and center of every promotion and he doesn't have more commercials besides the Chrylser one is beyond me.  I guess because his accent is thick?

Honestly just awesome! The funny thing is the kid was a cocky little shit. Only Miggy!
Wasn't that long ago when a lot of fans wanted him out of here when he was having the off field issues when he came to Detroit. This dude is a beast and has to be the face of Detroit sports.

I was watching it live (I watch almost every game), and I almost teared up seeing this exchange (damn onions).  He is a joy to watch as a hitter (so is V-mart, too), just a machine and his ability is off the chart. He's an above avg 1st Baseman as well, and continues improving.  Combine that with his fun-loving attitude and leadership qualities - he's very special.  I also like when he points to the 1B umpire when he checks is swing, as if to say "go ahead, that;s not a strike, I have nothing to hide."  He will take liberties with other players standing on 1B that no one else could get away with, but hey, he's MMFC!

I do have some minor concerns, though.  Obviously, injuries have slowed him the last 2 yrs, his weight may be a contributor and is a concern for me.  The sky is the limit if he can stay fit. I have also seen his temper flare up occasionally (he's been ejected for arguing balls/strikes, past brushes with law, etc).  But give credit to Dave D. for recognizing his greatness and trading for him.

Again - love the guy, but I just hope he can play at least until he's about 40, about 8 more yrs.  He'll be the full-time DH by then, in a few yrs after V-mart retires.
