Mickey Johnson down to five

Submitted by rman247 on
According to espn, dt Mickey Johnson is down to five teams us included. Though Jernigan would be my first choice for a dt this year, it would be great to lock up a strong dt like this. He is espn top 150. I'm sorry I am unable to post the link ( for whatever reason my iPad just writes zC4CKjo7aU when I try to put a link.) However though it is behind a pay wall, if you go to his profile it has his five teams on the the left and on the on the trail section of the recruiting it said he is down to five. Can we lock him up?

He also named UCLA as his leader in the article. An official visit will be key for our chances with him.

...from an article at Volnation.com

“UCLA, Nebraska, Michigan, Tennessee, and LSU are my final 5 in that order. I’m going to take 4 official visits, I won’t take one to LSU since it’s so close. I may enter a 5th visit down the line but we’ll see. I’m up to over 40 total offers right now so it’s been tough to narrow them down.”

Interestingly, TomVH had this a month ago.  It includes video highlights and a video of him benching 500 lbs.

He has said before that he likes the idea of being the next Ndamukong Suh.  I think he genuinely likes Michigan, but I doubt he ends up in Ann Arbor.  Michigan has a tough time pulling top prospects out of Louisiana.  We usually have to accept the sleepers/projects from the deep south.

and it struck me as odd that someone would report such a low GPA to one of the recruiting websites.  I really hope that it is supposed to say "3.2" instead, or one of the other schools could easily employ some negative recruiting and remind him of the Demar Dorsey situation.

I believe he is originally from Cali so that is why he is high on UCLA, but if I'm not mistaken they are loaded at DT. Also I read he is slow playing LSU,  but they arent showing him a lot of attention. He would be a great get for Michigan but I highly doubt he ends up here, I would rather Jerigan.

A lot of people have said it will come down to UCLA or Nebraska.. since, as Magnus said, he's a California native and all. Apparently LSU isn't recruiting him that hard either, which is a little surprising.

Again, he's one of those kids that seems interested, but we probably don't have a shot.

Until we win.
