Mich/State Predictions

Submitted by goblue85 on

Michigan comes back home for a very big game today against state at 4pm CBS.   Our backs are against the wall, and the beatdown at East Lansing should have our guys motivated for this one today.   In February, we were missing our swagger from the beginning of the year when we went on 20-1 start.   The frosh have been playing better at home.   Let's keep winning at home and protect it.    I have the confidence will get it done today.

I want to say 90-80 Michigan but if I'm wrong I won't be too upset. I still really like these young kids and happy where the program is directed.

Today, the basketball gods pay Michigan back for the Wiscy game, and maybe even the Evan Turner game.

STAEE is ahead for the entire game, but Michigan fights back and gets the ball back when it's 65-63 STAEE with five seconds left.  STAEE pressures the inbound, the ball goes to GRIII, who is pressured and heaves the ball toward the basket with the clock reading under one second.

Michigan 66, STAEE 65.

This game becomes yet another "turning point" in Michigan's season, and the momentum is back.  Tom Izzo goes Bobby Knight after the game, and ESPN decides, in a stunning turn of events, to actually criticize him.

I don't know if this has already been said..but Shane Morris will be at the game today. I'm more than sure he will be back to recruiting hard. Drake Harris will be there again.. last week Wilton Speight got the chance to get in his ear and now Morris. The pressure is on, and it will be a great atmosphere.

in the last 5 days since Tuesday.    The only legitimate chance we have to win is if we play tough D the whole game.  That will help overcome our inside shortcomings against State.  We also need Hardaway to have a big game.  He's been way too inconsistent.  It goes without saying Stauskas and Robinson also have to play well.

Following the infamous 2.4 seconds at Wisconsin, the question was whether they had "learned a lesson" etc. etc. etc. Not so much. Instead, they have proven "fragile."  For M to win given recent history would be quite remarkable.

State by 5 to 10. Yuuk.

Wow, I'm wondering where the "get the fuck off my court" attitude is on the team and I see it's not with a lot of the fans here either.  Where's that from?  State hasn't been playing exactly great since their win over the Wolverines.  And Appling is struggling in a big way.

The Wolverines have two choices.  They can come out full of self-doubt or they can come out with a new resolve.  I predict Morgan leads the bigs in establishing a tough ass attitude today and I hope the band wagon realizes a "me against the world" attitude means no re-entry for those who jumped off.

The question is team attitude and team performance. Both Burke and Hardaway alluded to it this week. Doesn't matter what or often they give the rah rah speech....team has to perform. Long and short...talk is cheap. We can hope M wins, but realistically smart money is with State. However poorly MSU has been playing they did not blow a 15 point lead in 10 minutes and lose to a team that had not beaten a BIG team.

Nothing more. I just think they are young and have hit both a mental and a physical wall. They have been unable to finish a game. As a team they are either going to collectively get sick of it and get their backbone up or not. Hoke would call it toughness i expect. I have not seen toughness out of this team especially lately.  Chances of getting them tough in light of recent history are small. You're saying the same thing. But this goes back farther than PSU game.

Not about coaching. I think they are well coached. Not about talent. I think they are talented. It is about making up their mind not to take any more of it as a team. That comes from inside. Because they have not displayed it, chances are they won't. It ain't a water faucet.

You're right, we are saying the same thing.  I heard Coach K (calling him that over spelling, not over affection) talk about winning programs and winning teams.  He said winning programs can overcome much more, they have a resilience grown and passed down from class to class.  Michigan is in the process of building that and given their youth, I remain optimistic that they still can.

1. The typical basketball whiners will be out in full force all game.  One of them will probably have a stroke.  (This may not be a bad thing).

2.  Someone will post a FIRE BEEEEELINE!!!!one!1!!! Thread.  (Complete with incorrect spelling of Beilein's name).

3.  Multiple posters will be banned.

4.  The trolls will invade.

I have is scared. Scared that this team will throw in the towel. Or scared that this team will fight back, but it won't be enough. Just scared.

Blue and Maize tinted glasses: The team plays with pride. Comes out strong but starts to lose it around half time, letting State back in with about 2 mins to go. Tied 32-32 at the half. McGary plays hard but gets three fouls in the first half including a BS charge call. State comes out and takes the lead to eight before Hardaway goes on a three shooting spree knocking down four in a row. Burke has a steal+dunk on the following posession and Michigan is up 46-44 with about 10 to go. McGary gets his fourth foul and State splits the pair. Robinson responds with a jam and Stauskas hits a three. Michigan starts to open it up with 5 to go. State plays the foul game but can't get back in it.

Good guys: 71 Boogers: 64

Back of mind "Oh fuck, we lost to Penn State" voice: The team starts slow. Hardaway does nothing. Stauskas misess everything. Robinson doesn't exist. Burke has 7 turnovers.

Bad Defence: 55 Asshats: 76

There is probably as much reason for hope as any time in the last 15 years...But yeah, impending doom is the feeling in my stomach. Hope I am wrong.

If you had asked me Monday I would've said Michigan by 6-8. But, Penn State carved us up and it wasn't end of shot clock heaves somehow dropping.

People seem to just say our defense is bad without understanding why. From what I've seen, the lack of our perimeter guys to stay in front of their men has killed us all year. Drive and dish or drive and kick.

Add in a lack of killer instinct and you get the Penn State debacle.

Prediction...

Nix and Payne eat us alive. Harris knocks down a bunch of open 3s and our offense sputters when faced with a hard-nosed in your face D again.

State 70

...and that's how they got all those open looks, how the hell can we stay in front of Appling?

It might make sense to go box-and-1 on Harris and pack it in against Payne/Nix.

The problem I have is we have zero confidence right now, coming off a demoralizing loss, and they've had an entire week to prepare.

Everyone just visualize being extremely happy after the game and pray for the best.

nellies... Almost every other top 5 team has lost one of the ones we just lost. Just because Lunatic Lunardi has us as a 3 seed doesn't meant he world is ending and we lose out the rest of our schedule... We win today with an energized crowd and a reenergized team. I can't wait to see the reactions when we send Sparty home weeping.
