No ! Not us ! Screw you Adidas !
Damn I hate those camouflage uniforms !
But hey at least we don't have sleeves on them
The camos are shit, but these could be worse. Just look at ND's last night.
ORRRR.... you can avoid serious pain and NOT look at ND's from last night.
Even Golic on Mike&Mike was panning them this morning, and he's the biggest ND homer of them all -- with Digger sitting next to him, even.
WE'VE BEEN TO THE MOON!
OH shut it, he beat me by one minute. At least I took the time to post the picture.
I actually don't think they're awful. The whole camo thing is dumb to begin with, but they could be a lot worse. See Baylor's from last night....
If the players like them, then whatever.
I feel like a player would get in trouble if they said they hate them. Then ADIDAS would probably flip out on Dave Brandon and such.
Could be way worse given what we've seen adidas tossing around. Not crazy about them, but they're alright.
Gusee I have to see them in the game, but they aren't as offensive as I had imagined. That said, screw Adidas.
They could be worse is not a reason to wear them.
How did Michigan sports go from having the coolest uniforms/gear on the planet to our fans regularly having to say, as compliments, "Well, I've seen worse", "It's not terrible", "The blue hides the camo design well" or "If the sun's not out, they actually are pretty good"?
Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
I don't understand why we can't just tell Adidas to shove it when they present their latest fugly uniform design. Sure, they contribute millions of dollars worth of stuff to the athletic department. Guess what? If we tell them that we're not wearing zubaz and that they're idiots for asking us, they're not going to suddenly refuse to do another deal with Michigan.
Last I checked, apparel companies were still paying wads of money to work with Alabama, USC, Penn State, Texas, and all the other tradition-rich schools who don't use any shoe company clown suits. If Adidas doesn't want to do a deal based on keeping the uniforms traditional, I'm sure Nike or Under Armour would be glad to do so. Hell, put it in the contract.
They are the supplier, and we are the customer. We don't need to go out of our way to please them. End of story.
I don't know what to believe in anymore.
i'd probably buy a pair to wear to the gym or something. they're not nearly as bad as some of the others, you can barely tell.
The camo doesn't really stick out like with Notre Dame's or Ciny's, so at least it isn't obnoxious. Pretty subtle actually. Wish there wasn't camo, but it's not as bad as it could have been.
Meh. They aren't that bad. At least they don't have sleeves.
I actually kind of like it, because its textured, but subdued. Plus I just love the blue jerseys, always.
FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS MAIZE AND BLUE. GO BACK TO NIKE!!!!!!
Because Nike never tampers with Uniforms.
Also theres a small school in the North west that has made the duck seem like the coolest mascot on planet earth. I believe Nike has a lot to do with that...
MSU and OSU basketball uniforms from this season that have their logo in the middle of the front of the jersey and say Spartans or Buckeyes as the name plate on everyone's jersey. And for football, the MSU and OSU pro combat unis that they always seem to wear against us. So, since the Duck is "cool", you want a cartoony Wolverine Mascot walking the sidelines?
Adidas have done nothing but disappoint me with these hideous football/basketball unis. Also I never asked for a mascot but We all know Oregon has the best unis in football and is a huge recruiting pitch because kids want to look cool. These camo unis are right up there with the worse series of uniforms in the history of sports.
I will be the first to admit that Im a cornball, but I wish the school could work out a deal with Marvel (i think thats the copy rights owner) and get X-Men Wolverine on the sideline. Thats if we absolutely had to have a mascot...
Sorry bro, but he killed you with that response.
We all hate these recent uniforms, but it has nothing to do with Adidas vs. Nike or Under Armour for that matter, they've all made hideous uniforms as of late.
Anything to get on SportsCenter and get people talking.
The players selected it, isn't their opinion of what they want to wear the one that really matters? Unless they were coerced into it. But hey, the numbers and names are readable, no sleeves, that's a step forward right?
The feed says the players "selected the tank top." I wouldn't be so sure that they picked the camo so much as the higher-ups said "choose sleeves or no sleeves"
I never understood this logic. No--their opinion is not the only one that matters. Also, I'm sure they have nothing to do with these decisions anyway and saying they chose them is just some PR move to deflect blame from the guy who put pasta in a breadbowl.
I never said its the only opinion that matters, but their opinion means more than yours or mine, they should wear what they want (within reason of course). Now, if their only choice was something like "Sleeves or no sleeves?" then throw my point out the window and fire whoever deals with uniforms.
With respect to the stewardship of the University's image & reputation there is simply no way that an 18-22 years old opinion matters more than that of the administration and collective alumni body.
These little shits come to the U to learn taste & culture, not to teach it. Frankly, it's shameful that the adults in charge are letting this carry on.
And by that logic the Fab Five would all be looking like Dr. J or something
Apparently theplayers chose them...had to go with dark uniforms though
They aren't HALF as bad as the stuff ND wore yesterday
...is the day I cut my own throat.
I duno I kinda like it
Ok, I haven't been all 'rabble, rabble, rabble' against the uniforms like many, but ugh. Camo? This may be the straw for me...
those jerseys with white shorts and the maize socks would be the bomb!
Like it. These alternate jerseys are gonna put me in debt. I'm still waiting for my outback bowl jersey.
Edit: Shorts are already up on MDen. Just placed my order. Pic-
When you wear these to your gym to go workout, will you be listening to Technotronic, Young MC or C&C Music Factory on your Sony Walkman?
Marketing targeted at people like you is why we can't have nice things.
And whiny people like you need to get over it already.
They BARELY look different than the ones we usually wear. The camo won't be noticeable on TV, and if the players want to wear them, why not? At least they don't have sleeves.
... I've never seen a group of mostly men get so worked up over fashion.
just win. Play the game right, serve the community well, and just win.
all else is a footnote.
So apparently you don't care what clothes you put on in the morning before work.
We're talking about uniforms. Fashion shouldn't have anything to do with it. Uniforms, id est, wearing the same thing all the time are, practically by definition, the anti-fashion.
The fact that we even need to have these discussions is what is so infuriating. They taken a simple non-issue, messed with it repeatedly, upset a lot of people and generally left all of us looking like clowns.
Like: The ability to see names and numbers.
Dislike: EVERYTHING else. Sorry but these need to be buried.
Even the lightest shade of blue there wouldn't look too out of place as the primary color on a Michigan uniform.
What infuriates me the most is how we just let Adidas tell us what to wear. Indiana told them to "fuck off" when they showed them these uniforms. Why can't we do that?
And I don't care if the players chose these. Don't even give them the option.
Am I the only one who had to google what a codger is?
"An elderly man, esp. one who is old-fashioned or eccentric."
But I don't think the players had much of a say besides if they wanted sleeves or no sleeves.
...when they chose which school to attend. They came to Michigan knowing full well what uniforms they were going to wear.
But we can't really claim that anymore, now can we?
Yup. Welcome to sports. I didn't expect to design my jersey when I played in high school. This whole thing is a product of the uniform manufacturers wanting to sell jerseys. Don't pretend for a second that the players have anything to do with this.
that bad actually... I expected them to be a lot worse.
The camo camouflaged the camo. Sweet!
...that said, I agree, they're not THAT bad.
I don't dislike them because they're hideous...I dislike them because everyone else is wearing them. THIS IS MICHIGAN! I wanted to be different.
Enough adidas Enough, stick with throwbacks or the orig....
They selected the tank version. What I get out of that, is the other choice would have been the sleeved version. Doesn't sound like they realy had a choice on the camo aspect of it.
really could have chosen last year's navy blue jersey which they have worn the previous couple of games, but they preferred to do the new ones but no sleeves. They didn't just have to go with the new one's. They chose to wear them.
And you know this... how?
For the longest time since I was a kid, I hated Nike and loved Adidas. Now, after seeing the horrible uniforms they've come up with the past couple years across the country, I'm not sure I'll go out of my way to purchase another Adidas item ever again.
Not that bad....
And I slowly weep.
Sure, the players wanted it. But the players probably also wanted to eat pixie sticks and gummy bears before game time.
I have such mixed emotions. The Fab 5 *wanted* baggy shorts, and thus a trend was hatched. And I agreed with that move since I was a HS basketball player who grew up in the mid-80's wearing tighty-tights. Skinny legs in tighty-tights sucked. Looser and longer shorts made sense, felt better, and looked better. That change was good for me. I'm sure, though, there were a lot of purists yelling and screaming for changing the length and bagginess of basketball shorts.
Our inside the ropes reporter has discovered the method Adidas used to develop the Michigan uniforms being worn at today's Big Ten conference game:
It wouldn't suck so bad if it were just the basketball team wearing this crap. Maybe paisley will come back and we can incorporate it into the wings on the helmets. Maybe we can have toe caps stitched into the skates to give the impression of wing tips. Hell, speaking of wings, they must have a ton of 'em left over from the Vicky's fashion shows. Find a couple blue ones and strap em to Horford's and McGary's backs. We need to be more Oregon than Oregon or we just aren't Michigan.
Wait, paisley went out of style? Damn.
Cheer up, Mattison got extended! /s
Tank version reminds me of the 80's uniforms, sans piping. Can't really argue with them -- they oddly remind me of the home football uniforms, the solid blue, the maize lettering and number. So, why not.
And the camo? Because the different shades of blue are pretty close to each other, I don't have a problem with them; I actually kind of like them. They're inoffensive, something trendy and different from the usual, and if some random 5* kid makes him want to play for us because we wear stuff like that, all the better (or, probably more accurately: he won't cross us off his list because we're as trendy as all the others).
As long as we have 1 point more than Sconie at the buzzer, we could be wearing ND's uniforms from last night and I won't care.
"As long as we have 1 point more than Sconie at the buzzer, we could be wearing ND's uniforms from last night and I won't care."
Us in Notre Dame's uni's, WTF? Might as well put us in OSU red or MSU green for that matter. This is almost becoming a philosophical question; at what point are they not our team anymore? How much uniform creep/deviation is tolerable?
I'd argue none, zero, zip, nada, zilch is tolerable. If it doesn't matter what uniforms we where as long as win win then I might as well just root for Indiana, Duke or whoever the championship team is. Some of you are dismissing this issue but it really cuts to the core of college athletics; a core that is very much forged in an almost tribal identity. Schools, teams, players and fans need to start fighting back or we're not even going to exist anymore. And I mean that quite seriously.
This is the current reality. I cheer for Michigan and for Michigan's players. The second they take the floor I completely forget about what they are wearing. That was the case in 1990, 2000, 2010 and now.
Sometimes we'll like what they are wearing and sometimes we won't. But let's not pretend this is something more than what it actually is - a slightly different take on a basketball uniform.
for the job they want. Unless all future Michigan athletes want to join the military, they should not be wearing camo. That is all.
Adidas is the Dada movement of modern sports apparel fashion. They reject all rhyme and reason. Why are the entire shorts camo, but the front and backs aren't? Because Adidas rejects the established notion of what is pleasing to the eye, and replaces it with nonsense to get a reaction out of the viewer. Maybe Adidas is an art movement?
The DuChamipons of the west?
Also, they could be worse. And the players chose, so fine.
The problem I have with this is that when uniforms become this big a focus, and the players are caught off guard, and then have to choose, they're thinking about their god damned uniforms instead of what they have to do on the fucking court.
It's just a distraction we don't need. I'd rather we think about boxing fucking out.
I might have to find a non-HD TV to watch the game on today.
Man, I really hope we don't wear these in the NCAA tourney too...or past today...or at all. Yes, if I'm hoping, might as well hope for never at all. It's settled.
I just want to see the market research that Adidas has done that indicated to them that this design scheme would be met favorably by a large majority of players and fanbases. It just boggles the mind.
Players want them. If they play better and they win, I couldn't give a flying fuck.
I'm so sick of this jersey bullshit. I'm equally sick of hearing people say "if the kids like it......". I don't care. This is a fan blog for fan opinions. This fan's opinion is: we have the best uniforms in sports. STOP FUCKING WITH THEM
Yes I know the concept of marketing has been around for as long as humans traded goods, but this endless need to come up with something new just for the sake of being new is nauseating.
I'm tired of people whinning about uniforms. Their not that bad, stay true to color. The players picked them.
The players picked the tank top over the t-shirt look. It doesn't say they necessarily got to choose if they wore camo or regular blue uniforms.
I'm guessing the president of Addidas got burned out and ran off to Mayanmar and left someone grossly incapable of running the company in charge, who in turn promoted this guy from the mailroom to the Senior VP of College Basketball Uniforms position in order to avoid daily contact with him, and now Michigan has camouflage uniforms.
That is all
Take away the camo on those shorts, and that's what our shorts should look like.
I think we need an MGoVote on these unis...there appears to be a lot of differing opinions.
They wearing these? Watching the game, I can't really tell they are camo.
BEAUTI-OUS! What will Adidas think of next?!?
