Not surprising to see this middle-of-the-pack sort of ranking, although IMO the duo (or apparently trio) will need to exceed these expectations for us to have a successful season.
Michigan's QB Duo Ranked 44th
Ohio State ranked #7 with TP and Joe Bauserman, "a former minor-league baseball player" with not a single snap of college ball. Yeah, ok.
He cost TP 6 spots.
If TP gets turf toe that is going to be a watershed event for OSU.
That's an awful ranking. I really like A&M;s Johnson and Tannehill though.
I'll admit the title of the article is very misleading. It's not so much a ranking of the two deep at quarterback as opposed to a ranking of the starters, with the name of the backup tossed in.
Penn State down at 81 just makes me feel even better about that game.
I feel thats a game we should get that would look decent and help RR get that quality win.
I think they will be the biggest BigTen disappointment by the end of the year. I'll get to watch this one in person.
I find it difficult to believe teams like Utah State and Tulsa really have better QBs than Michigan's.
Well a fellow by the name of Shavodrick is apparently one talented player
bad Shav Beaver didn't come to Michigan man that guy's name conjures up all kinds of inappropriate comments.
If we had gotten Beaver, and Showers... along with Huyge and Cox... greatest team ever!... lol
I'll take Tate over Kevin, and Dilithium over Beaver any day (well ...). Our guys are the bestest!
you speak of? Some secret weapon the masses don't know about yet? I'm intrigued.
how everyone always seems to overlook all the blatant homerism Herbstreit shows. Over the past 10 years it's gotten worse and worse, almost as if he's daring someone to call him out over it. Sure, the guy's the fake-tan face for ESPN's coverage of CFB and he does call a pretty good game-- but it's just so over the top. If Desmond suddenly turned his job into a Michigan love fest he'd sent to the sports purgatory known as Calling Games with Pam Ward. Herbstreit's recent behavior is akin to CNN hiring Michael Moore to give a non-partisan view of an upcoming election.
And I'm sure Gameday will conveniently stop by Columbus at least twice this year as they always do.
Well, Iowa, Wisconsin, Miami, and us - we all just need to beat them. In fact, I think Purdue has a shot post Wisconsin. (Indiana on the front end maybe, but not so much.)
If they loose, Herbie gets exposed (again).
I've heard that he's a homer on local Columbus radio, but I think he does a very good job of being impartial on ESPN telecasts. If he's a homer for anyone there, it's the Big Ten as a whole - he always defends the league, Michigan included.
And really, it's tough to fault Gameday for coming to Columbus on a regular basis when the Bucks have won or shared five straight conference titles. The reality is that they've played a ton of meaningful games in recent years.
Not only is there not a single michigan player on there
In your opinion, should there be? Is this Kirk's fault or somebody else's?
(FWIW, he went a little overboard with that shit this year)
Molk probably would've had to be included if he had stayed healthy and continued performing at that level. Also, considering that Gardner is going to play this year, it would be WELL within the realm of possibility to include a five star kid like that in the top freshman category.
I like Herbie. He does a good job calling games and, I think, is pretty impartial in his analysis of teams. He seems to think highly of OSU (big surprise), but OSU has been really damn good over the past 7 years. Despite that, he can still look at OSU relatively impartially.
He has unbridled affection for Columbus and OSU in his columns. So what? A column is simply a matter of opinion. I doubt anyone here would look at the editorial pages of the New York Times or Wall Street Journal and treat those as assertions of fact.
Let's hope the Maize and Blue surprise some people this year and garner some post-season love. I think you'll note that Herbie listed Michigan as one of five teams on the rise, so it's not like he's dismissed Michigan out of hand.
Trying to rank 120 players/positions is pretty impossible, but I think I'd rather have two new sophomores on an improving offense than Texas Tech (12) with Tommy Tuberville as a coach, Jeremiah Masoli (17) in the SEC with under a month to adjust to a new system and inferior talent, UTEP (24) with a 17/13 TD to INT ratio, anything from Middle Tennessee State (24 or Utah State (26), Austen Arnaud (42) with a 29/24 TD to INT ratio during his career, or anything from Wyoming (43).
This doesn't take into account real improvement from Freshman to Sophomore year. Sorry.
than Forcier and Robinson.
And the non-death option is coming off of ACL surgery.
This is ridiculous.
"This ranking is based on [Dwight] Dasher's availability; without him, MTSU's ranking would drop 80 or so spots."
Last I checked Dasher is suspended indefinitely for cash money/gambling issues, so that means WOOOO WE'RE NUMBER 43
Ah Dwight Dasher...
Stats against real teams (Clemson, Maryland, Mississippi State):
58/108 (53% Completion) for 3 TDs anddddd 8 INTs.
Stats against the Sun Belt
128/240 (53% Completion) for 16 TDs and 6 INTs.
He did pile up a bunch of yards against Maryland and Clemson, rushed the ball all over the world, and had a solid bowl performance, but 25? I dunno, man.
UConn is all the way down at 79th. They also graduated their top two receivers. Maybe they won't be able to exploit the secondary too much...
This is a nonsense article. For one, almost all of the teams ranked before us will use one quarterback unless the starter is hurt. Not only are we going to go back and forth between two signal callers, we may even throw in a true freshman as a third option!
That and the fact that they put Kirk Cousins/Andrew Maxwell three spots higher than Garrett Gilbert/Connor Wood.
our QB trio?
If Gardner doesnt redshirt, how soon do we see him as starter?
definitely. That way A: less nervous and B: freshman mistakes don't kill us.
This ranking is stupid.
This is done to generate interest and spur debate.
If we are looking for anything more than that - we're taking it too seriously.
