But rebounding could be a slight problem tonight.
landing spot. will be interesting to see how he does.
But rebounding could be a slight problem tonight.
I'll say it again -
HATE the white unis.
the side pattern on PSU's unis - looks like a rejected design from the NBA all-star game.
Nice start here, a win would help the NIT chances.
In the land of blind men, the one-eyed man is king.
If you aren't gonna make the Big Dance, you may as well fight for the next best thing.
Michigan football was 4-0 and ranked #20 in the country this year. And then they shit the bed. Should we not have cared if they won six games and made the Pizza Pizza Bowl? Did you "cut your losses" with the football team?
Making the post-season is ALWAYS better than not making the post-season... even if they have to "settle" for a lesser venue.
In 2006, I never could have imagined giving anyone a plus-one for articulating the virtues of the Pizza-Pizza Bowl. Sigh.
I also never would have thought RR would be the coach or my former boss would be the athletic director. Weird couple years.
I can see where both sides are coming from. The expectations for the basketball team were huge this year and I think it's safe to say that they were much higher than that for the football team this year.
That being said, any postseason berth is better than none and it would at least be a building block towards a successful season next year.
68 teams got into bowls. And they don't have nearly the mid-major slots that the NCAA has. There were more teams from the Big Ten in bowls than will make the Tourney. If people would have cared more about the Pizza Bowl more than the NIT, that's just a sign how utterly pathetic the last two seasons have been. Had we gone in the stretch of New Year's Day bowls you would gave gotten the same reaction to bowling in Detroit - yawns.
The benefit is some tournament type experience for a still young team, potentially some neutral court games, experience out of league, and most of all a chance to end the season on a positive note with some wins in the NIT. They will have as much talent as anyone in it, maybe Manny and Peedi see their M careers ending and pick it up, and we end up winning it.
is better than a losing season - a nice NIT run could set the tone for a return to the big dance next season.
why is everyone wearing half sleeves now?
Yeah, I don't get the 1 sleeve thing either, what's the purpose?
we can shoot?
not really, no.
We just need confidence down the stretch. A win on the road is always tough to come by so you take what you can get, but playing a 1 - whatever team in the conference at home, you really want to win handily
More Sims, Please.
This must be where we tank for the last 8 or so minutes of the first half.....
and only manny makes one. if u cant make 3s please..dont take them.
Problem is...we need to shoot 3s because, outside of Sims, we have no other option
has always been better as a slasher imo. he doesnt really seem like a pull up and shoot kinda guy. ya, he has a nice jumper but hes better getting to the rim and as a result the charity stripe. outside of him, no u dont really have anyone to score. feed the big man down low. stu douglass should NOT have the highest FGA in the first half. especially with shooting 2-7 from field and 1-4 from 3.
No argument there. Only saying that the 3 point shot is a very important part of our offense. I wish we didn't have to rely on it so much
sucks (even for the BTN) - get him out of the studio.
Online stream anyone? I am stuck at work :(
BTN games don't seem to ever make it online.
Sims is a beast, we need like 2-3 of him.
Morris' play in the 2nd half of this season has made me pretty excited for the future of Michigan Basketball. (knocking on wood.)
No you're definitely right.
I'm watching the game on ESPN Gamecast and I must say I really like seeing all the scores having Assisted by Darius Morris next to them.
He's having a real nice 2nd half
Good to hear - he's the future of this team
Are we seriously going to lose to the worst team in the Big Ten, at Home?
I'm sure we'll make it close, but this is very disconcerting
He scores in "The Land of the Giants?" What kind of shlock is this?
BTN, I'm available every Saturday if you need announcers. My resume:
1. I can read names.
2. See #1.
I know that's kind of douchy, but these guys suck.
"Zone Left has shown the ability to read, speaks fluent English, and doesn't make 'down goes Frazier' references."
I'm in! In 40 years I'll be doing the 12:00 game with Pam Ward.
Thanks for the help.
It's pathetic the effort that Michigan has been putting forth all game. We're getting outhustled by the last place team in the Big Ten. Really a poor reflection on the team as a whole when they just go through the motions.
I had no idea.
2-8 shooting is unacceptable
This team is, um, wow.
yeah i was just going to start a new topic...one to try and inspire people and remind them of what georgia did in the SEC tournament to make it into the big dance as a 14 seed...and talk about how if we can get lucky and get hot at the right time we could try and do something similar....
and then i turned my head and looked at the score...
If we shoot another bad three with more than 10 seconds left on the shot clock im gonna punch a baby!
Son of a bitch. What the hell is going on with these guys?
Sims is a good guy, because i might have shoved Talor back.
Agreed, I was going to say the same thing. He certainly is coming across as a bit of a, well, you know.
Sims didn't even react... well played by him. Hopefully he'll just take the game over.
The crowd's got to get more into the game. I know we're down but come on - it's doable.
I guess in a way it's times like these that I'm glad I don't have BTN. At least this way I don't have to see it.
I'm pretty sure the team's 3pt shooting percentage is now equal to mine
Harris!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3pter, now a potential old-fashioned 3pter.
Wide fucking open shot, and he missed it!
would update us on what Talor Battle is doing.
He's starting to get Tebow coverage. I wish they highlighted the fact that he bumped Sims unnecessarily, and all but punched Morris in the face. Glad he just turned it over.
Harris dunk!! Take it over!
It seems the starter's play the same most of the time, the only time we have a good game is when we get some help off the bench. If you remember our last two games we had some nice bench play.
Seems that Manny is really trying to take this game over. And we need him to
Who was that big face cut out in the student section?
Stu quit on that offensive rebound opportunity. It would have come right to him.
I counted three offensive rebounds for the entire game, which I attribute to an annoying habit of turning around and running back to set up on D like a person fleeing a tsunami. This happened countless times: Someone puts up a shot, the entire team bails.
And, while I'm at it, there were stretches during the late first, and mid-second, halves when the team simply decided to play 0 defense. Once they turned it up - which they did beautifully with about 7 minutes left, it was just about too late.
Not to mention Manny and Morris executing perfect drives to the basket and passing up the shot so that someone could miss a wide-openn 3.
And then there's - oh, never mind.
michigan had 6 offensive rebounds throughout the game. sims had 3(and 2 on one possession and missed both shots) and novak, douglass, and LLP each chipped in 1.
These announcers are OVER REACTING!!! OHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Douglass, Novak, and LLP are a combined 2-17 from 3. That has to be the story of the game
Game... or season?
That is so true
It's the story of the season man, where have you been?
Edit: beat me by like 5 seconds lol
Well, it just makes it even more true.
Novak started the game fairly well too...
If by fairly well you mean 1 of 2 then yes, he did.
why does everyone on PSU's team have a ridiculous haircut?
Obviously this team wouldn't be anywhere without them but my goodness Sims and Harris just make the absolute worst decisions in crunch time.
As ugly as this game is, I continue to be pleased with the development of Morris. A couple big plays on the defensive end here.
Why didn't cheerleaders look like that when I was in school?
Edit: this was a stupid post. I was just cheesed sbout the game...everything. Redacted.
Are you kidding me?!?
could actually sink a shot, just imagine how much easier our two stars' lives would be.
What the hell happened? These are college basketball players and we've missed at least five wide open threes and a painful number of bunnies from within five feet of the basket. I have no idea what causes that. You can't blame Beilein for it... they're getting open looks, they just cannot convert for the life of them.
Does this stop all the posts about whether we can sneak into the tournament? Please?
Just dress like a hot-dog vendor, act like you're supposed to be there, and enter through the shipping dock.
Works for me. Then again, at 6'1" I wouldn't stand out like Peedy.
F me for bringing this "possibility" up a few days ago. Michigan hating God heard and responded with great vengeance and furious anger. No more from me on basketball.
Manny misses free throw. I am about to punch myself in the face. This is just. . .FUCK. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but good god, this team has had a disappointing season. Doing less with more than I can remember in recent memory. It isn't like we had guys suspended for half the year or debilitating injuries this season. Jesus.
Well, we'll never know how much they would have contributed, but losing both Morgan and Cronin for the season was pretty bad on the injury front.
Agreed. We've been undersized against EVERYONE this season and yes, it has made a difference.
Not even kidding, I can shoot free throws better than this team. That is ridiculous. Actually maybe not since I'm a really good free throw shooter. Maybe I should play college basketball.
Game, set, season. Time for some Olympics.
I'M TIRED OF GETTING PUNCHED IN THE DONG
I got called that waaayyyy before yesterday :(
ugh, we lose at home to a team that is 1-12 in conference even after they fail to score for 7 minutes late in the second half ... on junior day.
Oh fuck me. Baseball just lost to Texas Tech (a team picked to finish next to last in the Big12) to make matters even more awesome. Now I know why crazy girls cut themselves. Somebody wake me up in September.
My chosen method of self-torture is forcing myself to drink a Tab cola that someone left at my house. I'd rather be cutting.
The thought of drinking a Tab just made me dry heave. Thank you for making me feel alive, if only for a few terrible moments.
Make that Michigan 2009-2010 AnySport
On those who thought it was a good idea to talk about our "chances" of getting an at-large bid. The only thing worse would have been live-blogging this game, my spleen hurts...
Please, just one team make the pain of 2009/2010 Michigan sports stop. I've been dong punched so many times I'm numb.
one of the most numbing parts of the game today, besides the walk home which is 150% colder when we lose, was the crowd. There was really never any energy in Crisler, even when we were up by 8-9 early in the first half. Honestly, the Crisler crowd outside the student section has been a disappointment this year. There was some hope towards the end of the game when Manny got that steal and slammed it by himself at the other end. The defensive possession after that was loud...like loud enough to feel the "scratch" in your ears that you basically never hear at Crisler.
But then, something bad happened. PSU made a 2 point shot. And every single person that wasn't a student sat down immediately and it got quiet again... it just felt like quiet submission. This happens EVERY TIME something goes right at Crisler. The crowd will stand up and right away, whoever we're facing scores and it's like someone shot a nail gun at the balloon. This sports year just needs to be over.
I think that's becoming our new mascot.
