the just released schedules were a flat-out statement that the B10 doesn't believe SOS will matter in playoff selection
Michigan/MSU Postgame (actual thoughts) thread
Gardner caught that pass that was called incomplete inside the 10. That was a huge swing call

Have to give the refs some credit, not perfectly officiated, but I was expecting this game to get really nasty - may change my mind after some replays, but thought that they did a good job breaking things up before it was able to get out of hand.
"No man is more important than The Team. No coach is more important than The Team. The Team, The Team, The Team"
Although they did get some calls right, they were constantly missing holding calls on MSU on our guy coming from the edge. And then, after a whole game of not calling it on MSU, they call it on Michigan at a point in the game where it could have altered the game's outcome.
But you're right, it could have been worse and they did keep it under control.
About the clock management: even when the team needs to go into a 2 minute drill, it takes forever to get plays in. Why is there not a set of plays to go to in that situation that doesn't require using up 20 seconds or more?
Anyone else think the block in the back call on Kovacs interceptioin was bogus? T Gordon did not block that guy in the back.
RCMB is on full melt down alert. TWIS is going to be sooooo much fun to read on Tuesday, I can hardly wait.
Beyond that, I just don't know, man. We won, and I'm delighted. But day-um... We'll have to play better if we want to win in Nebraska next week.
I thought we got outsmarted coaching wise most of the game. Then with 3 minutes left MSU outsmarted themselves by throwing a pass that went incomplete and allowed us enough time left to win the game.
Denard got the last laugh against MSU...and they will never be able to change that.
Our defense. Fantastic once again. We haven't given up more than 13 points since the start of the ND game.
The offense. Well, MSU still has a good defense. I almost put my fist through the wall when Denard chucked it up into the endzone our second to last drive instead of taking advantage of all that green space he had in front of him. However, Dantonio I guess wanted us to win by throwing on second down, saving us a time out.
Glad to see Denard and the resto f the seniors win, knowing now they'll graduate by knocking off Notre Dame, Michigan State, and Ohio State all at least once.

The team played well enough to win so that obviously is the end goal, but the offense was again either (a) unprepared for MSU's defense, or (b) still the fever dream of Al Borges in which he has a road-grinding offensive line, a move-the-chains RB, and a rocket-arm statute at QB with multiple 6' 5" targets. Because as we've seen, it's a 50/50 shot that the offense will be able to move the ball the past two years, but luckily the defense has improved to the point that it can keep the team in games.
Congrats to the seniors on the win an going out in style against the Spartans. Based on my reading of FB, it seems like most logical MSU fans feel that with the recruiting improvements the 4-year win streak may be the high point of Dantonio's reign at MSU.
My concern is that in these big games, Denard seems bound and determined to prove that He Can Be A Passer. It's maddening, frustratingly maddening, especially as, in this game, when there are wide-open swaths of open field for him to run through. It's what makes him Denard. I wish he didn't feel the need to hide that.
As long as he duplicates his efforts against nebraska and Ohio State, we'll be fine.

It was the first time since 1995 (the legendary 5-0 Purdue game) that M won without scoring a touchdown.
Highly likely I am over-reacting but...
Another awful game of playcalls. This was a good MSU defense for sure, but they were beatable and time and time again Borges failed to put our players in positions to take advantage. Now I'm not saying our players were flawless, but so many inexcusably bad offensive plays completely exposed by MSU's defense. How do we not use Funchess/Rawls more? Why do we not adjust once we realize MSU has an answer to our read option play? I think it was rather clear we had options at the corners but Borges insisted on going down the middle! And then the 2 pass plays inside MSU's 4 yard line! Once again Borges overthinking the play call. I know if either of those passes were complete, I would be praising Borges for daring to pass. But I think we can now see a pattern of Borges being to cute with his play calling. He overthinks! Am I over reacting? I think we win this game by 2 scores easily with an average playcaller. This was not a great defense that we faced but merely a good defense and there is no reason why we do not score more than 20 with the most dangerous qb in Michigan history.
It is likely the beer and my love for Denard is skewing my perception. If so, what am I missing? All this said, love Hoke, this team, and the outlook for this season and beyond. GO BLUE!!
The windbags on RCMB want to fire their OC, Roushar. How about we follow your thought and theirs, and perhaps trade OCs? Personally, I'll go with Gorgeous Al, thanks.
I think we could agree that Roushar is a much much below average playcaller. Point taken that things could be worse, but that doesn't mean things can't be better either. All this being said, very happy that we came away with the win and very much looking forward to next week against NEB.
Burbridge is the real deal. I do not look forward to playing him for 3 more years.
Can I say, though, for those of y'all who were in the live chat, how much I HATED the negative attitude our own fan base takes on? We were down one point with MINUTES to go and everyone bailed instantly on Borges, on Hoke, on the team, on the entire coaching staff. I find that troubling. It's a bigger discussion, but I just find it disheartening. Have faith, go blue.
This and why I don't post or read posts in real time anymore. I stay off chats and boards during games now as people just make themselves look stupid. One series or play and they'll call for heads and then praise them the next series or play. It's insane.
Also, to guy below, I also do not wish to play Burbridge the next 2-3 years. Very good WR.
I see what you are saying but the criticism of Borges is pretty deserved. He seems to playcall like he has what he wants for personnel instead of what he has for personnel. And he seems to lack a creativity that is borderline Deboardian.
Totally agree. Don't get how people can objectively look at where we were 2 years ago and where we are today and not give the coaches the benefit of the doubt (Borges included).
That's the thing. And honestly, who knows how much of that in-the-moment play-calling is on Denard and how much is on Borges, but when you boil it down to bare facts, we did not beat these guys ever at all under RRod. And we did under Hoke/Borges/Mattison. That's where it stands, in my opinion.

That live chat room was in near meltdown mode through most of the 4th QTR. For some, our games can get too emotional. It seems like a release valve for high blood pressure at times! Well, I'm glad we won and the live chat is important when I'm on the road to get current game info. I thought the moderator Blue in South Bend did a great job relaying the plays! So, I'll always be logging in when on the road and no time to stop for the games!
expect the best
Know what Gholstons stats were from the game? I'm trying to prove to my State fan buddy he isn't as good as the hype he receives. I missed most the game due to unfortunate circumstances.
HE16MAN
Zero solo tackles, 2 assisted tackles, 1 offsides penalty. That is all.
Denards skill set forces us to play the style we do. We are not a proficient passing team, we turn the ball over way too much when we throw the ball. MSU's defense is to pressure the run with 8 and 9 man fronts. Our offense (this year) plays right into that. That is why this game was destined to be close. Teams that are able to force us to pass will give us trouble.
I hope Shane Morris is truly as good as his rating. If he is, then we will be very good in two years. That is when we will see how good Borges really is or isn't .
CC
The million-dollar question is, will he be great as a freshman or will it be a year until we are elite? The pundits are unanimous that it'll be 2014, but they are wrong all the time. Thoughts? Y'all are way more versed on Morris than I am.
Plays next year after missing most of this season and not being able to enroll early, just can't see him beating out Bellomy....
Denard Robinson......They're not going to catch him!
If the Spartan fans on my newsfeed are an actual sample of the fanbase as a whole I feel sorry for that team. The way MSU has been playing this year they can be proud for playing great today and all they have is a bunch of ungrateful cry baby fans who bail when the team isn't playing lights out football. Good job to both teams today. I am happy to say the threat is very real.
I agree about clock management.
I will also say that I want to see someone else get some carries at RB. I love V.Smith in certain situations, but I will literally pull my hair out if I watch Toussaint get pulled down by many more pussy arm tackles. Just a few carries for Rawls, pleeeease.
Otherwise, Ryan was a beast, as per ushhhh. I have little faith in Roh... I am sure he does some things that are good and I don't notice, but otherwise most times I see him shooting into places that open holes in our defense, or getting ridden out of a play.
My own personal performance I would rank as a C-. I didn't put my jersey on until second half, which is a big no-no, plus I totally mentally jinxed us a couple times (particularly their fake punt and Hagerup's shank... Sorry guys).
Lastly, Gibbons has earned 72 brunettes in his afterlife, and also DILEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Deep under cover in THE enemy's territory
Called a conservative game again, we seem to have no answers for states defense, you'd think we would have been more prepared...all in all, Denard didn't pay great but unlike other years, he was able to make plays at the end of the game...first and goal we need to go more I formation and get Rawls some carries. Thought jt Floyd payed his best game today...did well in coverage and calked well. Gibbons loves his Brunutte girls, thank god. Defense did a nice job containing Bell.
Denard Robinson......They're not going to catch him!
I think that Denard struggles in a more robust passing attack. That forces the play calling. We must rush Denard as often as possible, because he is like Barry Sanders. He will get stuffed 12 times but the next one is a TD. That is the good and bad of DR.
CC
To finally get the proverbial monkey (which felt more like an 800 lb. gorilla) off the back is absolutely huge. We really needed to win this, and it should in how tightly the team played. I am proud of this team. Denard may not be accurate, but I always root for him and am thankful that he represents our team. Hopefully, his and his teammates' efforts represent another significant step back towards everyone's expectations for the program.

The playcalling was frustrating, but Sparty's D is good enough that whatever counterpunches we think of from our living room probably wouldn't have worked out much better than whatever we did try. There were a few times we had the right play dialed up but our receivers not named Dileo flat out didn't make the play or the throw wasn't where it needed to be.
Bottom line is that re: Borges, he gets a free pass from me all season long because of his masterpiece vs. Ohio last year. If all he does for the rest of his tenure is engineer works of art against those cretins, I'm honestly OK with that.
