Becasue tennis is considered  a minor sport, the Michigan tennis program often gets overlooked, but our tennis coaches, Adam Steinberg , men's head tennis coach and Ronni Berstein, woman's head tennis coach are great for the overall Michigan athletic program.

Ronni Berstein has lead the women's tennis program to a 69-4 Big Ten conference record in her 7 years in Ann Arbor with 2 striaght perfect seasons and six straight conference titles. The program is also a nationally ranked top 15 program - an extraordinary accomplishment when one is dealing with the likes of the California and Florida schools where one can play tennis outdoors all year round and the fact there are very limited scholarships available to be handed out.

Adam Steinberg, the men's head tennis coach hired by Dave Brandon completed his first year as Head Men's Tennis Coach. He was hurt by graduation the past couple years ,but Adam is someone who could bring a top ten program to Ann Arbor with Big Ten championships and national recognition . Coming to Michigan  from collegiate powerhouse Pepperdine . .....in his 12 years at Pepperdine , he led the team to 10 NCAA appearances with a national championship.

I feel like this is the best team that coach Bernstein has had. Having Emina Bektas as a senior (and who could carve out a nice pro career) and Ronit Yurovsky as a junior leading the team is one of the best 1,2 punches in college tennis. They could lead UofM on a run in the NCAAs depending on the draw they get. Plus, as it currently stands, they should be hosting the first two rounds which would give them a decided home court advantage (they rank second in the country in attendance). Go blue!

Don't forget about the steadying influence of Sarah Lee at #3.  Having that 3rd senior who flys so much under the radar, despite her sterling career record, has been a boon to the team this year.  When it comes time for the NCAA tournament, I would hazard to guess that her performance will have as much, if not more, impact on the team than Emina and Ronit.  I only say that because those two play at such a different level than the rest of the team and Sarah seems like rallying point for the younger girls.

Ronit is great, I agree, and Sarah Lee is made almost entirely of sweetness! I don't know Emina as well, but everyone should watch the Big Ten preview video on Mgoblue and listen to Emina and Sarah talk about the team spirit and how much they love and take care of each other off the court. Very inspiring! What Sarah says about that, there's not an ounce of bullshit in it, I've seen it whenever I've seen the girls together, really a family! Brought a tear or two to my eye, especially with Sarah about to leave :(

Same dynamic with gymnastics, Water Polo and Volleyball. Not that it's not true with other sports but those are the one's I know enough to say so. Football guys I know are pretty close too from what I see, but I have a small sample size compared to the size of the team.
