Michigan Women's Hoops Team Earns 2nd-Straight NCAA Berth, as an 8 Seed

Just announced on ESPN, the Michigan women's basketball team earns their second-straight NCAA bid. Congrats to them!

They're an 8 seed and will face Villanova in the first round on Sunday at 7:30 pm ET in Palo Alto, California. So, the good news is they got in, as expected, but the bad news is if they beat Villanova, they'll almost certainly have to face the 1 seed, Stanford, on their home floor.

The 8 seed ties for Michigan's highest ever. They had that same seed in both 2000 and 2001.

What bad luck. As always, its the top teams and everyone else....but this year especially, there are four #1's and the EVERYONE else.

It would've been nice to be a 7 or even fall to a 10. You want to be on the 2-seed side at all costs.

Well atleast our potential 2nd round matchup will be with the last 1 seed. Atleast it's not Baylor or ND - Silver lining?

Facing Stanford would be marginally better than playing Baylor, but realistically speaking Michigan's chances of beating Stanford are pretty slim. Women's basketball is ridiculously unbalanced. There are a handful of elite teams that rarely lose to anyone but one of the other elite teams.

Thinking long term, I think it's good they were sent out to California, and even that they might have to face Stanford. Michigan has been recruiting California very hard, so this should get them some more exposure with the prospects out there, as would a game against Stanford. Hopefully, if they do make it past Villanova, they can at least have a respectable showing against the Cardinal.

Every women's championship was won by a 1, 2, or 3 seed (since it started in 1982), and only once has a team seeded lower than 4 even made the final four.  The men, on the other hand, have seen the 11 seed make the final four 3 times and an 8 seed make the championship game three times (8 seed 'Nova won it all in 1985).  And if you recall 2011, 8 seed Butler took on 11 seed VCU in the final four.

I know his "branding" and uniform choices can be questionable, but it looks like David Brandon has hired some pretty good coaches for the U of M athletic teams in his limited time.

Good luck to the team and here is hoping for two different Michigan basketball teams making deep runs in the NCAA tournaments.

You're 100% DEAD ON about the hires.

But guys, PLEASE STOP acting like these are DB's uniform choices. The AD doesn't make these decisions! The TEAM does.

If we wanted to roll out there in gold helmets for football or sky blue shorts for basketball...maybe he steps in and says "no." But that majority of this decision making falls on the TEAM, COACHING STAFF and SPORT ADMINISTRATOR.

Again, Brandon is not sitting up in club level of Michigan Stadium all day giving a "thumbs up"/"thumbs down" to uniform choices like he's in the movie Gladiator.

Bakich, Barnes Arico, Hoke have been home runs so far from what I've seen. Don't know enough about the soccer program to know what Chaka Daley has done, but we had a decent season his first year. I am nervous for the hire for hockey when Red retires. Just because he is one of the greatest coaches ever, regardless of sport IMO
