Pain goes here.
Michigan-Wisconsin Hoops Open Thread
let's see if Frieder brings some good karma to Crisler.
and expecting to watch the game on CBS (9), they are preempting the game with continuing coverage of the snow storm. You can still watch the game:
Antenna: Digital 9.2
i love you
channel 203 doesn't exist for me on comcast - is there another channel?
through the channels looking for the backup CBS channel. Unfortunately, I found it :(
Crap, didn't realize this was regional coverage, so I get Cal/UCLA. Does anyone know if there is a way to stream the game?
EDIT: Found http://www.justin.tv/wootersports#r=nC6oRsY
Scroll down to find the Wisconsin-Michigan stream.
Thanks for the link. Not only is it better quality than the link I found, but it shows a live feed from inside Crisler during commercials. Woo tricycle races!
This doesn't exactly fit here but I didn't think it deserved it's own entry......
I was curious as to whether or not you would continue providing your version of the Recruiting Board? I know that it doubles up the info that's shared on the recruiting info here and the breakdown and analysis here is top notch. However, there is something to be said for how you formatted the same info. I liked that I could book mark your table for easy reference and know that it was going to be pretty up to date.
on pace for 40
Sims looking good early. Manny a non-factor, except for an early lay up and a silly turnover.
Decent play so far... I get very nervous every time Harris drives these days though. His handle is not as firm as it used to be.
Now it's getting frustrating. Not protecting the ball, dumb shots, not being patient. Calm down, get open, make shots.
something that our team understands... you start counting down the shot clock and at 7 seconds they get all nervous and go crazy and throw up an awful shot.
Yep, and that's one of the biggest problems we have on the floor this season. We don't keep our cool, and it kills us constantly.
fucking turning the fucking ball fucking over
Wiscy never misses
I have removed the fork from my dinner plate and inserted into my eye. Want to save myself the pain of watching the second half. I went down and watched Michigan play Clemson in Kansas City last year and they didn't look anything like the team this year. Is it physically possible to get less experienced? With basically the same core of players? What the fork
I feel like nobody has missed a three pointer on us the last three halves of basketball. Somebody please stop that train. Thanks
Why does EVERYONE shoot > 50% against us... it's getting really old.
Because our D is soft. These aren't completely wide open looks, but there not strongly contested either.
Wright jacking up a desperate 3 as the shot clock winds down... Awesome!
again it is looking suspect at best.
also, team no longer gives a fuck
all over again
bucky badger putting on a shooting clinic. and it's pissing me off.
jim burr, ed hightower, and ted valentine... I guess if you are an optimist at least burr is not in the building
That's the cheerleader everyone was talking about. Haaawwt.
is really good
gritty 3-pointers being attempted in this game.
why the fuck not bohannen
Just fucking perfect
gritty dong punch
Holy. Effing. Shit.
the whole god damn state of wisconsin... fucking cheeseheads
Pfff... only 69.2.
wiscy thinking they're the 85 villanova squad
No only 70%...
Are you joking? Hello microcosm.
I'm thinking she's gonna be the turning point
There's no fucking excuse for playing this bad. Just poor effort.
W is jacking up a fuckton of marginal shots and everything is going in
Scratch that, just an old episode of COPS
getting a hattie tonight to even it up.
Thats the spirit! maybe the Michigan hockey team will shoot 70% today in the first period... Now that would be sweet!
But Wisconsin's has awkward snare drum humping.
I still cannot understand how bad this team is. Lee and Merritt are not responsible for bad shooting and bad defense. So dont give me that whole leadership crap.
Opponents should never shoot 68% against us at home
any coincidence the Viagra sponsor ad was during the shot of the honey cheerleader?
I like CBS much more now after they showed the hot cheerleader when mentioning viagra.
are we sharing a cranium? and if so, my apologies.
back from the stripe..
more fouls called this half than all last half
i know a lot of people love novak but he just isn't that good. And this team isn't going to be good until the raise the level of talent on the floor.
rake the eyes, run over another dude, sweep the leg. no foul. keep up the good work refs.
underrated it is ridiculous. If we had a team full of 5 Novak's we would be a markedly better team I think..
if we had a team full of Novaks we would lose every game because every shot would be a three pointer
If we had 5 Novak's we would get a lot of hustle and about 18 points per game. It would provide much more effort, but not much else. He has become remarkably worse on offense from his freshman year.
25 minutes into the game we have 4 rebounds!?!??
Is this real life?
At least they are calling the hand checking/mugging that Wisconsin's guards call defense.
everyone seems to enjoy playing us so much...
Although Darius Morris looks absolutely nothing like a 4* player he is a freshman...and I remember what Deshawn played like as a freshman.
But what happened to Zack and Stu? I thought eventually one of them would work out of their slump.
I want to believe in what Beilein is doing, but for the life of me I cannot point to one player Beilein has recruited who would be more than a bench player on an ncaa tournament team.
I dont want to be impatient, but how many years does last year's tournament win buy Beilein? Does he get 6 more to make the tourney again? Or does his first real recruiting class(zack and stu) have to be successful?
Wisconsin's offense is slow, their plays are annoying, their scorers are boring, let the pwn us. I'm f'n sick of it.
every bit the 4 star as a freshman. He is going to be very good.
He needs to stop passing up on all the open looks he gets. Yeah he's not the greatest shooter but he's getting into bad habits.
I find it very annoying that Wisky players are literally laughing at us while knocking down 3 after 3. Plus #33 just gave Stu a bit of a forearm shiver. This blows...
Hopefully we can get them in hockey.
the rough season is starting to affect their willingness to shoot... they need to catch a break one of these days
I just vomited in my mouth.
I have coached baseball and football for over 15 years now. I don't understand this game...how can you sit there and watch your team do this 2 games in a row and not even get "T'd" up?! I would have definitely been chucked by now.
these free throws
Bohannen missed a three? I didn't know he was allowed to do that.
This is seriously making me hate life.
Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang! Fuuuuck!!!!!!!!!!!
Is the hockey game on yet?
So is Belien doing a bad job this year or did he do a miraculous job last year. I honestly don't know, not trying to be a smart ass.
I'd say both
I would say a little of both, but Beilein can't shoot the ball for these guys. At some point it falls back on the players.
were more valuable than people think, is the problem.. Morris should fix this as he is getting better by the day, but not there yet.
I think they miss Grady. Don't think they would have beat Duke last year without Grady, his ball-handling bedazzled them. Had Grady stuck around and bought into Belien's system things might be a lot different this year. Sometimes things click when a player becomes an upperclassman, I miss Grady's speed, ball-handling, and 3 point shot.
I miss his musk.
And the Wings gave up a 3 goal lead??? What a year in Michigan sports :-(
by the benchwarmer to end the game.
I really like the way that this team plays defense (Stu and early non-conf. not included).. Wisconsin just does this to people. They've shut down Manny and hit shots with the clock running out.
However, I can't stand a team that doesn't make FT's and has bad shooters launching so many 3's. Stu, honestly, shouldn't be on the floor anymore.. I've held back saying this, but it's true. He needs to be ~40% on threes to see court time. He hits 31% and is much worse against good teams (10-16 against Coppin St and IU), he doesn't rebound and can't play d.
Morris is going to be very good and might carry this team the next couple years, but he still needs shooters to dish to. I don't see where they'll come from.. LLP?
I've been to a lot of games this year and have cheered the team on the best I can (don't blame me). I think basketball will be fine in the long term under Beilein. Wright and Gibson have become serviceable, he brought in Morris, and got a tournament win last year. I just think it's going to be rough next year and this year just seems like a big, disappointing step back.
Jordan Dumars is supposed to be a really good shooter
Jordan Dumars is not ready to play in the Big Ten yet. He struggled at USF in non-conference garbage time against other teams' benches. Luckily, he has a year to sit and adjust to the speed of this level in practice.
Once Dumars adjusts, you never know. He could be a late-blooming second coming of his Dad. My thoughts are that he will probably be a solid role player as a senior. I hope I am very wrong and he turns into a star.
Whenever 2 of your starters don't make a single basket, you are most likely in for a long day
Fastforwarded through 90% of the second half. Should be the formula for the last leg of the season, too.
This team needs a Phil Jackson type Zen master or Pat Morita from The Karate Kid to come in and do a little Eastern hyp-no-tizing.
Sad thing is, we actually played pretty good defense most of the game. I've never seen Wisconsin commit so many shot-clock violations. They just shot the lights out from 3. At one point they were 11-15 from downtown. At that point you just look heavenward and scream "Why?"
BTW, did anyone else notice that we didn't attempt a single three until there were like 5 minutes left in the first half? It looked like we made a concerted effort to take higher-percentage shots . . . at least until UW built the gigantic lead.
I feel like Wisconsin would happily take a shot clock violation every possession while they're still up double digits.
Given that Wisconsin commits the fewest turnovers of any team in the conference, I doubt that's their strategy.
I was half-joking, but it wasn't a mistake that they would not shoot with more than 5-10 sec left in the shot clock. They're always minimizing possessions. I felt the same way that our D was pretty good and they were just hitting everything they jacked up there. I hate Bohannon.
Obvious, but, must be stated problem...
Both Stu and Zack are playing out of position.
Stu was comfortable last season as a wing player.
And with Zack, well, he had to play out of position last season too, however Michigan had quicker guards who harrassed offenses more, so it wasn't quite as obvious that Novak was OOP.
Of course, that doesn't explain why Novak can't shoot anymore...
For Novak, I feel like he should only be allowed to take a 3 every other game while he's still a 50% FT shooter. What a waste of the bonus with 15 min left in the game.
