This is a huge scheduling plus if it's just a home game with no return game.  Cinci is a way better team for that than what Michigan can usually land

I hope that the Big Ten picks up Cincinnati so that Ohio has to play a "little brother" rivalry team that hates them and averages one win every three games in football, but always plays them extremely tough.  If Michigan has to play a "little brother" in the conference, it's only fair that Ohio does, too; it helps level the playing field.

"Excuse FOR a weekend in Cincinnati"?  Shouldn't that be FROM?  I can't really remember ever asking a bachelorette party where they were going and having them yell "Cin-Ci-NNATI!!!!!!!!".  Not exactly up there on my places-to-visit list.

Oy. Downtown Cincinnati now has excellent restaurants and cool bars with good live music. Newport has... Bar Louie.*

Newport is for out of towners who don't like not going to chain restaurants because they're afraid they might not get EXACTLY what they expect. Downtown Cinci is for people with at least a shred of adventure in their souls.

* To be fair, Newport also has Hofbrauhaus and Cincinnati has McCormick & Schmick's, so I guess it's not as black and white as I'm making it sound.

While we'll never be confused with a Chicago or NYC, the Cincinnati downtown area is going through something of a "rebirth".  New casino just opened downtown and lots of new restaurants/bars in the Banks and stadium area.  As mentioned, Newport is also a fun place to hang out before/after games.

Cincinnati isn't going to make anyone's bucket list any time soon, but it's a pretty decent  downtown (for the midwest) these days.

Nice. Very nice.

They have a funny stadium name. It's Nippert Stadium. That's funny.

In my opinion, our ideal nonconference schedule once we go to a 9-game B1G schedule is one game against a top-tier opponent (alternating in home-and-home series), one home game against a mid-tier but respectable opponent like Cincinnati, and one home game against a MAC snacky cake.  Getting teams like Cincinnati to come to Michigan Stadium without a return trip is the most difficult step in that plan, so I'm glad to see that we could do so (although the possibility of doing this makes me really wonder why we're going to play a game in Connecticut's 40K seat stadium this year).

UC has the 2nd or 3rd worst athletics budget in the BCS. And they offer us nothing in landscape or viewership.

There's a better shot Michigan leaves the B1G than Cincinnati joining the conference.

...Rutgers.

..................Rutgers.

......................................Rutgers.

............................................................Rutgers.

If you ever need to vomit, just keep repeating that word in your head.  Makes me physically SICK to remember that Rutgers is now in the Big Ten.  Honestly.  Fucking sick to my stomach.

The Big Ten isn't going to offer membership to any schools already within their geographic footprint, outside of Notre Dame. The Midwest is already a very heavily-Big Ten saturated market, and Cincinatti offers nothing special anyway.

Delany has stated several times that he wants to go after new, large markets outside the traditional footprint that he can give the Big Ten Network access to. Which is why schools like UNC, Ga Tech and UVA are probably high on his list whenever the next wave of expansion comes.

Here's the official release from Cincinnati - (LINK). They have a few Big Ten teams on their football schedule over the next several years actually.

"UC will face a number of Big Ten Conference football opponents in coming seasons, playing host to Purdue to open the 2013 season and traveling to West Lafayette, Ind. to open 2016 along with road games at Illinois in 2013 and Ohio State in 2014 and 2018."

It was touched on above, but it seems pretty clear that Dan Enos may very well be coaching the Bearcats by this time, the way the typical coaching progression seems to go for Cincinnati. I do like the basketball aspect of this move in particular though - those would be pretty interesting games, I would think.

Wasn't Cincinnati in the Great Midwest Conference the last time we played them in hoops?

UM season ticket holder...and UC Law graduate.

Looking forward to this one...and yet, somehow, not. It's like when UM plays my undergrad alma mater (Miami OH). I obviously want Michigan to win, don't get me wrong, but I always start the game out by saying, "well...I don't want to see Miami get crushed." This nice sentiment fades away very quickly when the game becomes a little too close. Then it's all, POUR IT ON!

I still remember freaking out a little bit prior to the 2004 opener vs. Miami, when Henne was announced as the starter -- right at gametime.
