Except there's no way this team would've won 8 games this year with Hoke coaching. He won flipping 5 games last year, and spent most of the rest of the games clapping and watching his team get its collective ass kicked. He could've arguably only won 3 had a couple more things swung the other way with Penn State and Northwestern.

I'm fairly confident that had we played Purdue last year, we would've lost to them, or come very very close.

I said the same thing in 2013.  We did not deserve to be a bowl team that year.  We could've lost to Akron, UConn and NW since we trailed in the 4th quarter in those games.  And those were bad teams, minus NW.

I had no faith Hoke was turning around that offense or that the defense would've held up as well under another season of offensive futility.

Psht. You could count on one hand the guys for both Utah and BYU who would've earned a scholarship at Michigan. We have better everything than them. It's time for guys like Kalis, Peppers, Green, Isaac, Wormley, Taco, and Magnuson--all of whom would've been once-in-a-generation gets for a program like Utah--to start imposing their physical and athletic superiority.

You're overselling it a little bit, but by and large you're probably not wrong. Still, that hasn't precluded BYU or Utah from out performing us in recent years. Harbaugh is a huge X Factor, but I'm sure in due time we'll be a very good to great team but I wouldn't be surprisedif they both beat us. They are well coached; Wittingham and Mendenhall have necessarily shown themselves to be guys who get more out of less talent.

Maybe you oversold that a bit, but it's a good point. We've gotten used to thinking we need 4-start talent to compete with a 3-start team just to compensate for poor coaching and systemic turmoil. We should all expect Michigan to soon become a team that outperforms its talent level instead of always underperforming.

For me the baseline for assessing thier potential based on last year should be last year's talent and skill, not last year's performance. For purposes of projecting to this year, last year wasn't a 5-7 team unless you believe the coaching and preparation and scheme were equal to the recruiting and talent.

Hmm Im puzzled. I cant square how we go into that game with one loss, with the undeniable fact that Harbaugh will not lose a single game in his upcoming 20 yr career as UM HC. Maybe its some kind of Schroedingers Cat paradox or something.

I really hope people can enjoy a 7-6 season if that's what happens.  This program is on the right track.  But it might take a few years to get to where we want to be.

Fuck that. If we do manage to get through our out-of-conference scheudule undefeated then win the Maryland & NW games, I would have every expectation that a 6-0 Harbaugh-led team would smack sparty right in the mouth at the Big House.

Imagine how batshit insane it would make MSU fans to have to see a picture of Harbaugh holding up the Paul Bunyan trophy. That's their Lombardi trophy, and Harbaugh is the eptomy of everything about Michigan that has always made them feel inferior.
