Some guys from Michigan:
Royce Jenkins Stone (LB) and Terry Richardson (CB)
James Ross (LB)
Matt Godin (DT/OT)
Dan O'Brien (DT)
Aaron Burbidge (wr) (MSU most likely)
Brian Blackburn (qb)

In addition:
Dennis Norfleet will be near the top of the rankings. I am not sure how much Michigan will get on him because he is more of a slot dot type.
Detrick Goff out of Grand Blanc will be around the top 10 somewhere.
The RB from A.A. Pioneer will be around the top 10 somewhere.

will be an interesting one. I think MSU offered this past Sunday at their junior day. But yeah I think it's open ended whether UM pursues him or not. He's going to be at the top so you think they'd at least give him a look, possibly as a DB?
February 2nd, 2011 at 12:57 PM ^
The RB from AAP is Drake Johnson. He's like 6"1, 200-pounds but is a national competitor in track. May play receiver or linebacker at the next level, but a good prospect. Thanks for pointing him out.

rating recruiting classes. There is always a lot of hype over who has the most 4 or 5 star players.
Here is an interesting fact which should give everyone some pause regarding the importance of recruiting classes.
BOISE STATE HAS NOT HAD A CLASS RATING WITHIN THE TOP 50 OVER THE PAST FIVE YEARS!

Beats this snow hands down. I see what you are doing there...very smart.

Following suit (including CAPS):
BOISE STATE HAS NEVER PLAYED IN A BCS CONFERENCE WHERE THEY NEED TO "BRING IT" OFTEN (RATHER THAN JUST A COUPLE GAMES EVERY YEAR)!
February 2nd, 2011 at 1:35 PM ^
higher than Michigan over the past several years though it's recruiting rankings have been much lower.
Boise State beat TCU in a 2010 BCS game. WE know what TCU did to Wisconsin and what Wisconsin did to Michigan.
February 2nd, 2011 at 3:37 PM ^
while I won't argue that Boise was better than Michigan in 2010, you might want to refrain from using 2009 results to prove that something is true in 2010.

You had me until you went caps.
February 2nd, 2011 at 1:17 PM ^
I bet that you'd be surprised to know that Mike Hart was a 3 star!
Seriously though, look at the data on what the odds are on players developing into stars. Recruits who have been evaluated as 5 stars have a much higher draft % than 3 stars.

The Boise reasoning is really going down?

DT Vincent Valentine (Final fantasy 7 anyone?) out of Illinois. Some people doubt his offer list so far, and the kid is very raw, but he's talented.
RB/SR/CB Dennis Norfleet - out of MLK High school in Detroit. Electric with the ball in his hands, would have been perfect in the spread, but he will get recruited. Has an MSU offer, they lead early.
RB Detrick Goff -6"3, 220 lbs, Grand Blanc MI. RB Justice Hayes played in the slot before his injury, mainly because of Goff's talent. He's got size, surprising speed, and great ability. Will be a big-time recruit if his name gets out, and MSU is on him early. Used to live in Mississippi, FWIW.
QB Brian Blackburn - 6'5, 200 lbs, Detroit Crockett, MI. Has drawn comparisons to Terrelle Pryor with his size and running ability, but wants to be a drop-back passer. Still pretty raw talent, but developing. Probably will not be offered unless he performs very well at camp.
I had an article coming out soon, that's a teaser for ya!

I have seen all of the Flint area (Hayes,Goff,Rawls) backs quite a bit, and have been telling anyone who would listen to me that Goff will be the real deal on the next level.
Goff's family here is Michigan is very pro Sparty, and if he stays up here, it would surprise me if MSU didn't get him. He was having some issues with being homesick for a while, so he may be looking to get back closer to mom.

6 foot 6, 220 with a 4.4 40? If he is anywhere near that in reality he sounds like the next Calvin Johnson.

...appears to be Michigan's #1 recruiting target from Illinois.
February 2nd, 2011 at 3:11 PM ^
I know you're right, but the father of the team's QB, Robert Gregory, claims that Diamond and Gregory are a package deal. Gregory was interested in the RRs Michigan but probably won't be interested in a drop back role.
I realize package deals are rare, and this dad could be full of crap, but I thought I'd add the information to the discussion.
February 2nd, 2011 at 1:23 PM ^
Muskegon RB Juwan Lewis figures to be one of the top running backs in the state. Very physical RB with breakaway speed. He'll get an offer for sure.
February 2nd, 2011 at 1:25 PM ^
Despite Gant's family connections to Michigan, isn't he a Buckeye fan?
Also, his dad may or may not have had some issues with the University stemming from his broken leg after graduating.

but I don't think they share DNA. I think they are cousins through marriage, or at least I think I read somewhere on here that they were.

That's a pretty good compilation of names in Michigan.
In terms of Ohio:
They have a lot of RB talent there this year, all of which won't be able to go to OSU (they already have commitments from 2 - Ball, Dunn): Will Mahone, Alden Hill, Alex Winters, and Terrel Dorsey.
On defense, Gant as you mentioned, big S prospect there is Bam Bradley from Trotwood-Madison. Tons of DL talent there as well in addition in Wormley, probably waay too many to list.
Illinois: A few others mentioned Valentine and Schutt (in addition to J. Johnson) as the big 3 DT prospects in that class. Obviously on OL Jordan Diamond as well.
Indiana has (in addition to the QBs - Kiel, Gray), OT Sid Anvoots.
Midwest is strong this year, but Michigan will have to be national in terms of getting the depth it needs.
February 2nd, 2011 at 1:53 PM ^
We should have a shot at Stefon Diggs, athlete out of Maryland who played with and is friends with Blake Countess. He's supposed to be a very good player.
