Being canadian i can tell you for sure, the CIS is mostly players who were good high school players, or OHLers who went undrafted and likely had no future at the next level. It is more a way to finish out your career while also representing the school your OHL team paid your scholarship to.

They may be older but the skill level is not approaching the Michigans of the NCAA, also Windsor is not a top tier team either. A good representation would be Western Ontario (who you often play in exhibition) or McGill.

Basically in summation, our D-1 has and will always be the OHL/WHL/QMJHL.

Only one goal, and there wasn't really much he could do about it. Not to mention Red sat most of the upperclassmen for this game.

Collegiate level sports are way different in Canada.  As a Canadian I can tell you that athletic talent if fortunate enough gets schollied in the U.S,   Better athletics and full schollies which don't exist here.  They are known as Athletic Financial Awards which can't exceed $4,000 per year.  Good news here is that University tuition in Ontario is only about $6,400/year (think that's what I paid last semester for my oldest).

Ontario is the most expensive province for a university education with an average tuition of $6,640 per year while a university education in Quebec will cost you $2,519 per year.  These are per year numbers (not semesters).  My wife from Michigan attended undergrad at UofM and grad school at Wayne State and can't believe the differences.

Not able to listen, so could someone give a recap of the goalie play? That has really been my biggest concern for the year.

7-3 Michigan.  Things got sloppy toward the end, from the sound of things, and the 3rd-string goalie (Janecyk) gave up a couple of goals as a result.

First real game on Thursday against RIT.

Hope Merrill and Selman are going to be okay. Definitely losing Merrill would be a huge blow. Selman should definitely see some ice time this year. Dude is an animal out there.

Also I think Rutledge gets the start thursday night but look for Racine to get some time sometime in that game or the next night.

Gonna be a fun year that will hopefully end the right way. Michigan riding off into the sunset (to Pittsburgh, PA more specifically) with the final CCHA Championship and CCHA Playoff Championship.

looked not so good getting off the ice, but (having no connection to what's happening and being no medical profession of any sort) the impression I got from how he got off, was that he was more shaken up than actually hurt and that he might have been able to go back in if it had been an important game and not an exhibition.  I don't THINK it's the sort of hit that will make him miss many if any games.  At least hopefully not.

Selman I'm much more worried about, he tried to take a few steps, couldn't put any weight at all on his right leg, needed help off the ice, directly to the locker room, jumping on one foot.  That could more likely be a long time, maybe even the season.  Hopefully they're both OK, Merrill is obviously a huge part and Selman looked really good in the exhibition.

Also, in case anybody was curious, Trouba is absolutely the real deal.  Great, great player.  Had an absolute cannon of a shot a time or two, got caught up ice once that I remember, had one pretty bad turnover, but also recovered nicely a time or two, made some really good passes, drew a few penalites, joined the rush to create some good chances a few times....  He's going to be a force of nature for however long we have him for.  The one really good howitzer shot was on the PP from the top of the circle and it just missed.  If he can get that on net, that could score quite a bit this season and be a nice cure for Michigan's PP.  I am really excited for him.

I don't know about the Merrill part of your post. He looked really bad to me, and I got a good view from my vantage point in the student section. Obviously not a medical professional, but it probably isn't good news to be stumbling about like that with a distant look in your eyes after taking a shot to the head.

it was "good", iit might have been some variety of concussion, which, gateway to more concussions and very serious/bad and all that and I probably overspoke when I said he might have been able to return that game.  But dazed and confused is something you recover from in, generally, minutes.  Been there, done that.  I had a pretty good view of him, too, but my guess is that looks far worse than it is.  That or it's REALLY bad, to the point he may never be 100% again.  But my guess is that they may hold him out of this weekend, mostly as a precaution, but that by next weekend, at the latest, he's fine.

I tried to find some updates on the injuries, but all I could find was this tweet: "Berenson said Selman had a bad cut on his leg. Also voiced concern for Merrill. Said both coaches wanted to avoid injuries today."-https://twitter.com/MiHockeyNow/status/255853156347564032

Not really anything notable on Merrill, but probably best-case for Selman.  The other viable options from the way he moved afterwards were along the lines of things being torn/broken.  I'm sure we'll learn more in the coming days and hopefully neither is long lasting and both players are safely back on the ice, shortly.
