Michigan vs. Wayne State (exhibition) OPEN Thread
Walton with the start.
Wasn't too bad last time, they just sound so "student."
Walton gets the start over Spike tonight.
Walton-Stauskas-GRIII-Morgan-Horford.
Anyone have a stream?
First drop for Morgan...#rockhands
...still slow rotating on defense.
Nice help D from Horford
Drink.
More than just a shooter!
Morgan and Horford should NEVER be on the floor together unless we're playing Wisconsin (or some team with two huge post players).
Those are two centers. McGary can play PF.
With Morgan and Horford we are limited offensively.
Score updates appreciated
Login info appreciated more.
5-3, Michigan
Is there an online stream?
http://xrxs.net/video/live-btn-1840.m3u8
Works on iPad, iPhone or in VLC.
jonvolk - thanks for posting!
Is this just the "all day" BTN mobile link found through wiziwig?
Not sure. It's a link I've been using for a bit. I usually use XBMC and they have an HDish stream always on.
thank you!
At the under 16 media timeout. J-Mo headed to the line for 2.
Anyone else having trouble with fullscreen on the BTN2Go app?
http://xrxs.net/video/live-btn-1840.m3u8
One last post. It's the best BTN2Go stream available. Pretty much HD.
Thank you so much!
how does one use this (pc)
Download VLC. Choose "open network stream." Paste the link.
Thanks works great.
copy the link, open VLC, and the Cntrl+V will paste it into the player. Click play.
You'll have to download VCL media player first.
It keeps playing for like 2 minutes and then closing. When I restart, it goes right back to the same spot it started. Is this happeneing to anyone else?
Using it on mobile or PC?
Fixed it
How did you fix that issue? I'm having the same problem

Mine keeps going, stopping for a second, then continuing but after it happens a few times it just closes itself, any suggestions? Thanks
works fine for me on a PC
He's just not a PF.
He can Horford are the C's, just because McGary is hurt doesn't mean we should change this.
Irvin is coming in for Morgan so finally we're getting guys on the floor in more of a natural position.
Stauskas got ripped and J-Mo takes a charge (what a shocker)
Irvin came in for GR3.
LeVert came in for GRIII
Well Morgan just got subbed out for Bieldfelt.
...and I wasn't saying Morgan is bad. I actually like him a lot more than most posters do.
I was just saying he's not a PF.
I don't see anything wrong with playing him 15-20 minutes at C, Horford 10-15 minutes at C, and McGary the rest of the minutes at C (with the majority of his minutes coming at PF).
Obviously McGary is out, so go 20 minutes a piece for Morgan/Horford at C and call it a day.
When J-Mo is on the perimeter it noticably bogs down the offense.
Agree. I like Morgan too, but he is limited at the 4.
Guys definitely look like they won by 70 last time. Playing sloppy basketball.
IMO he should be the starter...all year. I'm not saying Walton shouldn't get more minutes, but I think Spike's calming force is perfect to start the game and the half.
I think his calming force is perfect when the offense is out of sync or needs a jolt (see: Ohio State last year) but Walton's explosiveness is preferable to start the game.
Nah. Just too athletically limited to succeed in the Big Ten. Let's not overreact to an amazing stretch he played in the NC game as an unscouted player. If Walton is not ready to lead this team, they will not go far.
That's better. Good extra pass to Spike for the three.
Even though we're not running anything we're just driving and kicking. I'd like to see us run something that resembles an offense at some point.
15-11 Michigan.
Well, I know Wayne State is probably better than Concordia by a bunch, but we had nearly 2x points at this time last week.
They're going to have to learn how to play when guys make a shot or two and they can't just run in transition for 40 minutes.
Can I haz well clubbed dead seal? I really really need it after Sat...
what Spike brings to the table. His handles are great and he can shoot. He'll be more than serviceable these next 3 years.
18-11.
...then Max B overhelps and they get a layup, but the perimeter defense was awesome.
Zak Irvin is on FIRE!
Irvin is feelin it!
3-3 now. 23-15.
Bielfeldt getting minutes over someone like Irvin, GRIII, Stauskas or LeVert just isn't worth it
But you're right...anyone else, no.
This is also why I don't like playing Horford and Morgan at the same time...they have to rest for an extended period at the same time.
Not that it matters being an exhibition, but still...
That said, Horford just checked back in.
But once McGary's back, it'll be a moot point.
We need. Not the one we deserve.
He was slow in rotation vs. Concordia, looks much better tonight.
Irivin is a big body, but he's not as explosive at GRIII and will never play the 4 for us. He's a guard/wing. Would love to see him able to play the GRIII 3/4 after GRIII leaves. Won't happen, though.
Love Levert, Stauskas, GRIII. Think Walton will be the primary PG, meaning we just don't have enough positions/playing time to add in much of Irvin, let alone Spike. Moving GRIII to PF would open minutes up, but I think he'll mostly stay at the SF position. Next year, though...
Just because that would be too many minutes for guys who aren't your best players. You've got to take minutes away from Morgan, Horford and Max B to give them to Spike and Irvin.
It's not like McGary can't play C for a 5-10 minutes and GRIII can't play PF for the same amount of time to give Spike and Irvin a few more minutes.
Doesn't really matter...if he can play the 3, he can play the 4. Novak played PF for an entire season in this offense.
Only recently have we had traditional size, but it's not like Irvin won't be able to play PF in spurts.
Agree that they'll have McGary at the 5 and GRIII at the 4 for stretches to get their best players in the game. However, I say Irvin won't play the 4 all year. He came in as a guard (2), while GRIII came in as a SF. His athleticism lets him play bigger than Irvin though they are similar size.
Interesting but not really surprising...LeVert, GRIII, Stauskas, Irvin are all so big, but move like guards so it doesn't really matter unless someone like Aaron Craft is on the other team.
Could help our defense to be able to switch more often and not create a mismatch.
Dude is straight balling.
4:43 minutes left.
AND THE FOUL!!!
set up by GR3. 35-21.
Took us 17 minutes, but we finally ran a play, lol.
High ball screen with Horford crashing hard to the basket for the dunk.
It's early, but Levert looks good running the point.
Although I'll desperately miss Trey, I think we're in pretty good hands with out new point guards.
I'm looking forward to it, I loved watching Trey in the way I loved watching Denard. But it'll be nice to see other guys be leaned on to contribute.
Having Spike, Walton Jr. and LeVert really gives us versatility at that position.
Absolutely. All 3 of them!
Horford is rebounding well, and that is how he will earn his minutes. Very important for this team.
Hate it
why?
2:24 left.
Can't find a working stream, but it's all good, keep the updates coming please.
download VLC. use it to play this stream (copy/paste)
Did you try the first page using VLC and the link provided? Worked great for me.
is playing the 4 right now...so again for people that think guys are locked into 1 position. Won't happen.
True, but there has been a lot of talk about him playing the 3, and I think when we start playing big teams (B1G), he'll play more SF. The more he can play the 4, the more we'll be able to get our best five on the floor for sure.
But just because he will, doesn't mean he can't play the 4 for a few minutes.
Just like McGary will primarily play the 4, but there are going to be times where he plays the 5.
Stauskas will have to play the 3 some, LeVert will have to play the point some.
Flexibility is a good thing. Some people act like it's a liability.
4th 3...this kid is killing us. Figuratively speaking.
It seems like levert, spike, and walton are more willing to setup the offense and slow it down. Burke would occasionally force a drive or shot..but sometimes was a good thing.
I can't compare it to Denard enough, but it's just like how Denard would occassional check to a QB blast and call his own number. Or sometimes he'd call an option and never ever look to the RB...he's just turn it upfield.
You have the liberty to do that when you pretty much ARE the offense.
This team is going to be a lot different. It's a welcomed change after watching the PG carry the team for 3 years.
All three (LeVert, Spike, Walton) are more than capable of leading the team in scoring and getting their shots...but we won't RELY on it. Big difference.
Stauskas to GRIII
OMG. I think his head was above the rim.
I think he haz wings.
AAAAND BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE.
Coleman finally missed
Damn hope that is on the eventual highlight video
Really looking forward to the adhoc, live mic, random camera of these student hafltime shows.
Should be exciting.
BTN has a halftime show this time...oh well
Link for live stats
With the talent we have, we won't need a Trey Burke to force the action...that said, I would like to see Walton be a little more aggressive when he gets the ball a 2nd or 3rd time on a possesion
Today was his first start and I don't even know if he led the team in minutes at PG over Spike in or LeVert in the first half.
He'll become more aggressive as his role increases. As of right now, it's probably best that he keeps the ball moving and we find a good shot.
He's not even a 4th or 5th option on this team right now. He'll probably get there, but right now, he's got to defer.
Very true, but the one thing I'm scared of with this team is that they need to find the person who's going to demand the ball and get a basket when the offense goes cold (as it does for all teams).
We have a few people (GRIII, McGary, Stauskas, maybe Irvin or Walton) who CAN do that, Im not entirely convinced that any of them have that aggressiveness in them to actually do it.
Not a bad half. One guy getting hot can keep many lesser teams in a game, and we're still up comfortably. Can't win 'em all by 73. Plenty to polish up, but we're OK. A lot of unselfish play, guys trying to make the extra pass. So the signs are there.
I'm not a basketball defensive expert but it appeared that Coleman's three pointers were all well contested.
Still there is definitely some sloppy passing going on and/or miscommunications that msut be worked out if UM is going to have any success on the road against a good/great team.
true.
but,
if you have such a hot shooter, you have to deny him the ball. That is a fundamental aspect of defense. The problem wasn't that he wasn't guarded, but that he was allowed to get the ball because he was extended really far out. When he's the only scorer, you have to extend all the way with him.
Who will be our leading scorer this season?
I think Stauskas will be the leading scorer this year, not GRIII. I think we'll see a much more aggressive Nik. McGary could possibly take that mantle if he's aggressive like last year's tournament run, but instead I think he'll be providing all sorts of stats while Nik will specialize in points.
But Stauskas and McGary shouldn't be too far behind.
I said this last week, this team may break the team record for most number of different players to lead the team in scoring for a game during a season.
We have like 8 guys who could lead the team in scoring on any given night.
Good point. I expect leading scorers to be
- Stauskas
- GRIII
- McGary
- Levert
- Walton
I don't think another will reach that status, though Irvin might if he gets really hot and thus extra minutes. Spike? Doubt it. Big men, no.
I just think that the points among the guys that you mentioned could be so spread out that it's not THAT much more than the guys you didn't mention.
If the guys you mentioned all get 10, 12, 14...and then the "other" guys get 6-8. That's not really that many more points.
It's alot different from Burke and Hardaway getting 25, Stauskas getting 15 and everyone else getting 4-6 points.
Anyone else in Ann Arbor lose their cable signal? I have AT&T and it's out. Really annoying.
This team will be exciting to watch this year - maybe even more than last year. I think we'll see
- even better ball movement
- more hot shooters taking over stretches of the game
- more aggressive defense
- more running the court
Fun stuff for fans.
Those are the exact reasons I've been excited to see this team since April/May.
That said, we have to realize that we're losing experience, go-to playmakers and a guy to lean on to take the final shot.
It'll be more of a TEAM and more of a "hot hand" type of deal. But sometimes you just need your star player to be a star.
There will be growing pains with this team, but unlike football...I think this team improves as the season goes along.
McGary must stay healthy.
Start of the 2nd Half.
...has fallen in love with saying "GR3"
Mix it up, can't call him by just his nickname.
Torching us.
Hands still made of stone...both of them.
Horford with one of those silly fouls
in Colemans face. That's 5 3's
In all fairness, he did have a hand in his face for three of them.
...this Horford-Morgan combo is giving us nothing.
Play one or the other! Can't play them both and rely on any offense that isn't 1 on 1 or fast break.
Agreed. Nothing gained.
I'd much rather learn this when the games don't count haha.
...and again, if it's one of them and McGary. No worries.
But they can't play together unless you're playing Wisconsin or MSU or someone that plays 2 huge guys that GRIII can't guard in the post.
15:56 left.
LeVert is on Coleman...I like this matchup.
After the time out, we'll come out with the long line-up plus Horford. My crystal ball says so.
from Spike, Irvin, Walton, Horford and Caris....he looks good at the point
Still lanky and a little awkward, but he plays so much slower...which is a good thing. You can tell he's got more confidence in his game.
Last year he looked like the freshman that got moved up to varsity in the middle of the season.
12:54 left
come on
We've run 1 play all game...I haven't seen any offense all game. We could struggle if weren't not able to get into transition.
Michigan's offense if a movement offense - meaning they are running continual plays. We've seen one pure pick and roll pass successfully run.
It's just a bunch of running around with a few dribble handoffs. We had a nice pick and roll to Horford for a dunk, but we haven't run offense all game. Movement, back cuts, off the ball screens, etc.
And even if you're just running a motion offense, there's still flow to it. A pass to the wing generates a back cut, ball screen or screen away. You've got guys working the defense.
We haven't done any of that so far this year.
We have had nothing going to the hoop..keep settling for 3's.
Sloppy 2nd half play. This is a good wake- up call to counter the 70 point win.
Terrible shot by Levert! We don't need that one person dribble long two.
I'd start Spike every game, but Walton would see more minutes. In the 2nd half I'd ride the hot hand.
We may be playing Morgan and Horford to get GRIII time to acclimate to the 3 position, but when McGary gets back, they should never play together unless we're playing a HUGE lineup.
Our halfcourt offense is a work in progress. In fact, it kind of sucks right now. We didn't need it vs. Concordia because they missed every shot they took. Wayne St is making some shots and we can't get into anything offensively, we're just flat out better than them and we can create 1 on 1.
I have a bad feeling that this team is going to struggle offensively quite a bit this season. Without Burke/Hardaway, those close wins we had last year are going to turn into losses this year. We have no catalyst on offense.
Don't forget that we're playing without McGary.
If I were an opposing coach, the game plan would be to take McGary out of the game. Because evidently this team isn't that good without him. And by 'take him out' I mean create plays and schemes that practically eliminate his effectiveness.
lol what? not good without him? Remember when we should have lost to penn state on the road last year? or got blown out at msu? teams have bad games in basketball, its why undefeated teams pretty much never happen.
It's not that easy to just scheme around Mitch. He's a high-energy guy and is all over the court. You basically have to hope he gets in foul trouble if you're an opposing coach.
After Saturday. Doesn't look like I'm going to get that
Wow really? you have a team thats mostly sophmores playing their first two games after losing two first round picks and the national player of the year at point gaurd, I think you sort of have to expect a few bumps, like playing sloppy in an exhibition game because you know you are more talented.
Also how did you fix the vlc player link to stop closing every 2 minutes, please and thank you.
I said it wasn't the jolt of excitement I was hoping for. After Saturday, another 70-point beatdown with tons of preposterous dunks would have been a nice pick-me-up.
What you said stands. They played sloppy against a team they knew they could beat.
That said: wasn't thrilled with the big men. Morgan was fine, but Horford's hands are questionable and Bielfeldt doesn't look like he should be playing unless it's an emergency.
YAAAY, another underwhelming performance by a UM team. Just what the doctor ordered after this weekend.
might as well work on plays like it's a practice I suppose
What level is Wayne St in? Are they as good as it seems here?
They aren't good but they are much better than Concordia. Michigan isn't playing with as much intensity tonight. This team will only be elite if McGary is healthy.
Don't give that man the baseline
So many negative Nancys now.
Are you guys serious? They are coasting to a 20+ win in an exhibition game. Exhibitions are about two things: Trying out different playing combinations and not getting anyone hurt.
You really think this game is indicative of anything that will happen during the season?
They could still win this game by 30+, lol
It's an exhibition game. It means nothing. Don't compare this to Michigan State, on Saturday, lol.
We just got muscled on the boards.
is playing tenacious
They didn't come here to bow to Michigan. They are scrapping and playing harder than Michigan tonight. I wouldn't read too much in to the performance other than our front court without McGary isn't good enough.
Yea, this front court is down right bad without Mitch. On the possitive side, that's really no different from last year. We all saw those results.
I miss McGary.
Fire everyone!
/s
We better make sure Mitch is 100%(!!!) before he comes back. He's gonna have to play some major minutes if they want to have any sort of inside presence (offensive and defensive).
McGary does not drop that pass - I promise.
Morgan does either. But yeah tonight has shown that we will really miss McGary if he misses significant time.
It sucks Horford really hasn't improved the last couple years. I really thought he would end up being a beast by the time he left.
his rebounding has been great in both games this year and really improved throughout last season. I think that will be big for us.
Really? Thats actually my biggest criticism with him. He doesn't really box out. It seems like he tries to just out jump the defenders, and it's not like hes a high flyer.
He's kind of like the 3rd Manning brother
What's the score?
65-48
His shot is inconsistent...he never goes up and comes down the same, you can almost call when he's going to make it just by his release.
saw the same thing. But when his shot looks pretty, it looks mighty pretty.
1 play per half, lol...both for dunk/layups
B10 team just coming off a national championship game. Of course they came to play.
"Get that salami outta here!"
lol, what was also funny was the 15 second pause afterwards.
God, you're right. You know he was practicing that for days in his dorm room.
SLOOOOPPPPYYYY
He can't be happy with all of the turnovers and the lack of intensity tonight. @ Iowa St in 10 days will be a tough test. Hopefully, Mitch will be available
Hang on
It's times like this I think you have to put Spike and Morgan in the game. They're the two guys you can rely on for smart/consistent play.
at the basket better boys
The back court appears to be pretty good.
Fuck Luke Hancock.
Agreed. That game was ours.
F*** all beards!! By that I mean Hancock and all the red sox.
basket by Caris
The little boy sweeping the floor during timeouts is a machine. I've never seen such perfect form.
He's the MVP of this game!
2 minutes left
Gets owned on the boards and then gives up a foul...
For the person in the Concordia thread that wanted to argue with me.
It's going to happen. They actually played together more vs. Concordia.
I think it's really important that we win by at least 20!
OK, just kidding.
only 19 pts. We are DOOOOMED
Don-nell...or Don-uhl?
I thought it was Don-uhl.
Only one l...but the kid on the broadcast called him don-neLL like 10 times in 20 words.
Final.
The thought of Bielfeldt trying to guard Adreian Payne scares the bejesus out of me
Unless they're fouling, the thought of anyone not named Mitch McGary guarding AP scares me.
Are you suggesting that Donnel can guard him?
He's not even going to play this year.
That I would have liked to get a longer look at what he brings to the table. The exhibition games were the only chance for that. We already know what we have in Bielfeldt.
However, I can tell you know...he's not the answer vs. Payne. He needs about 15 more lbs to even THINK about seeing the floor in the B1G.
But if he can bring a sweet stroke or offensive skill, that could mitigate it. I phrased it incorrectly to begin with, but the point is right now it seems like our big's are McGary and JAG's (Morgan's defensive skills notwithstanding). Would have been nice to see if the 4-star 6'9" shooter we got could provide a punch somewhere in the frontcourt.
very sloppy performance
1. Don't care about the score...but the play was too sloppy for my liking
2. We didn't run much offense in these two exhibition games. We really struggle in the halfcourt (but we're VERY dangerous on the break)
3. Morgan and Horford shouldn't play together...however, I'll let it go because this allowed GRIII to get time at the 3 and Stauskas time at the 2.
4. Spike needs to start until Walton Jr. can gets enough experience to become more assertive.
5. Irvin is going to be streaky...I see THJ 2.0 except he won't get as many shots and won't be relied on as the 2nd best player on the team.
6. We need to run more ISO and offense through Stauskas and GRIII when we're in the halfcourt. They're both more of a mismatch than we give them credit for.
7. Morgan and Horford still have hands of stone
8. GRIII still hasn't quite established himself as the leader, but it's clear he's trying
9. LeVert is much improved and plays the game at a MUCH better pace
10. We haven't found a "go to" lineup yet
Bonus - Our team defense isn't what it was last year or can be...but we've got the athletes to get it there.
But half way through the B1G season, wasn't the team's lack of interior defense a huge complaint?
We didn't run much offense in these two exhibition games. We really struggle in the halfcourt
I didn't see the Concordia game, but given that we scored 117 points in it, I can't imagine that we struggled much in the halfcourt game. (Yeah, Concordia is no good, but still, how often do college teams reach triple digits?)
Disagree on Spike. Walton is the far superior defender, and that will get him the starting nod.
Without any real options inside, the only answer might be to jack up a bunch of 3s and hope for the best. And if we all remember, that is not a good answer. I am now afraid for this team and the possibility for a very long year. Without McGary, this team is a borderline top 25 squad.
I agree about McGary but I hope your opinion has little to do with tonight's game.
it does have a little bit too do with tonight's game. if Wayne State can hold us scoreless for lengthy periods of time, imagine what it's going to be like when we play actual competition.
Syracuse lost an exhibition to Le Moyne and ended up being the number 1 overall seed in the tournament (ended up losing to a Gordon Hayward-led Butler runner up). Last year, Michigan lost to Penn State and ended up in the championship. A bad game does not define a team.
That said, rather than look at the score or surface trends, the only really disturbing thing was the play of the bigs. Horford's hands are not very good and Bielfeldt is not exactly a world-beater. I was impressed with Morgan, but McGary needs to come back.
The rest of it I can chalk up to sluggishness. This is not like the Akron or UConn football games (systemic failure that is a sign of impending doom). This was just a young team that decided to coast.
What a crock of crap...
This team is legit...they're just young. However, unlike football...they have PROVEN young talent.
This is still a top 25 team.
If we had to play without McGary, Coach B would just have to have a closed door meeting with GRIII and tell him sorry son, you're playing PF this year so we can get the best players on the floor.
ok, this team does have some proven young talent. but without consistent scoring (burke) or leadership (mcgary if out for extended periods of time) is going to hurt this team. talent can only take you so far. just ask Kentucky.
But we have a much better coach. They just have a bigger program, a ton more history, great facilities and great recruiters.
X's and O's I'll take Beilein over most anyone in the country. Not to throw football under the bus, but you can't say that about Hoke.
We didn't have the most talented team last year and look where we got. And look where we got without Burke playing like the player of the year and THJ struggling for most of the tournament.
I'll take Beilein and this team without McGary and watch it be a more than decent team. Hell, I'd say it would be better than say an NC St of last year.
It still has 1 NBA lottery player and 2-4 other guys that may play in the league to go with a great coach.
Don't get me wrong, we NEED McGary if we want to do anything. But it's not like where we'd be without Burke in previous years.
Compare this team to Morris' sophomore season (Duke last-second shot) and the talent difference is striking. Morris is the only player on that team who would start on this team (I think sophomre Stauskas would start over freshman THJr., but even if you disagree that's only two starters).
Without McGary, this looks like a sweet 16 team.
With McGary...well the sky's the limit
McGary is the leadership for this team? Not the other 4 Sophs or Morgan or horford?
Really young team? That have proven themselves and went to NC last year? I thought uofm football was the only college team with young guys who have no experience..hmmm :)
Yeah because they had so many more options inside last year during the regular season (Mcgary made little to no imapact) and still came within a ball rolling off the rim of winning the best conference in the country
it's because we had Burke. a consistent scoring option and he pretty much willed us to victories in some games that should have been losses.
Oh relax everyone freaked out when Morris left early especially since we had no backup with experience. Well be fine let the team gel the first couple games and remember we're missing arguably our best player. And honestly it's the big ten that counts in the end
Fortunately, he does still play for this team.
Fire Borges #beingadick
No. You're a dick for using hashtags.
When we get McGary back, we're a legit top 5/10 team. exhibition games mean nothing. The year we won the big ten, we only beat Wayne State by 11 points.
.....
It's an exhibition RELAX! Good game played a whole buncha lineups plus I've learned not to under estimate beilein he knows wht he's doing. Plus unlike football, his players actually develop over time
We'll be good. We'll be really good this season.
Best five-man line-up sans McGary, expect to see these guys get the vast majority of minutes against ISU and in Puerto Rico:
Walton
LeVert
Stauskas
GR3
Horford
Those 5 were all at least +15 +/- tonight and no one else on Michigan's roster was positive. Beilein was experimenting with a lot of stuff but that's the way it's going to work out when the chips are down in a couple of weeks.
But this team can be a whole other beast swapping McGary for Horford.
Also for the poo-poo-ers. This is an exhibition: see #1 Kentucky "scraping" by Montevallo (lol?) in a similar game tonight as well.
Some team stats:
- 22-28 for free throws
- 24-46 for FGs
- 9-21 for 3FGs
- 31 reounds (25 defensive)
- 16 assists
A pretty good performance overall.
- Walton needs to control the game more. Too often I would see him pass the ball as soon as he got to half-court. He's still figuring out how to pick his spots and that's okay, but right now he's erring on the side of deferrence. It's nice that Michigan has plenty of guys who can create offense and Walton should not have Trey Burke usage, but there is a reason he is the PG. At times, the offense devolved into too much one-on-one and stagnation. As the floor general, Walton is the one who needs to facilitate that. He'll improve in this regard as the season progresses. Everything else looks to be in place for him
- Fast break game was sloppy tonight. Guys were lazy with passes, made a couple of bad reads...chalk it up to rust and energy level.
- Bigs besides McGary appear to be JAG's. Morgan's defensive skills are very good, but if McGary is out, I think the two-post lineup is a poor idea. For one, it exposes your bigs to foul trouble (risking putting Bielfeldt out there for significant minutes). For another, it really submarines the offense.
- Stauskas has been very, very impressive. Shot looks pure again and he has improved as a finisher.
- Then again, so has LeVert. He reminds me a lot of Jamal Crawford. That crossover is filthy.
- Irvin looked better tonight as well. THJr. 2.0 is not a bad comparison. Considering he's arguably our 4th-best wing, it tels you how much depth this team has in the backcourt.
- Which is why as long as McGary is out, there is no reason to play two posts. Get your best players on the floor
calls for PG to give up the ball almost as soon as they cross half court. It's not just Walton's being tentative.
I will give the game a C+
