Michigan vs Wayne State bball predictions

Submitted by goblue85 on

Tonight is the final exhibition game vs Wayne State live 7pm BTN.   I think Michigan will come out again firing.   I do not expect McGary to play.  Frankly really don't need him until the Puerto Rico Shootout.  I like what I saw from GR3, Walton, Nik, and Levert the other night.   I think Irvin may shine some here tonight.

My point is: Why not have a pre-game thread that is more substantial than "make a totally pointless prediction."

It's laziness on people who create threads.  The standard for creating a new thread should be really high.

Example:

Michigan vs. Wayne State Pre-Game Thread

Topics of interest:

  • Likely no McGary
  • Donnal redshirt watch
  • What - if -anything will be different between WSU and the actual season opener
  • Walton/Spike minute watch

My thoughts on bullet 1:

My thoughts on bullet 2:

My thoughts on bullet 3:

My thoughts on bullet 4:

Score predictions?

It's that simple.  Make a pre-game thread that's designed to promote substantial discussion, not promote people posting only a meaningless score.

Wayne State has more dynamic guards.  Will be interesting to see if Stauskas's quickness has really improved.  Levert is a known commodity, I have confidence he can stay in front of people.  Walton another one to watch.

Donnal can still get time without having to worry about redshirting, right?  When is the cutoff?

Walton 26 minutes, Spike 14.  I don't see this changing much throughout the season, the main reason for change will be one or the other playing exceptional/bad.  Average will be around 28/12.

Michigan's OL opens no holes for the RBs, Devin Gardner gets sacked four times, we turn the ball over three times, and need a last-second FG for the victory.

I don't know if it would even be this close. From Massey:

  Michigan Wayne St.
Most Likely 85 57
Median 85 57
Mean 85.34 56.81
Win Probability 98% 2%

I am thinking we might break 90 points again here myself...

I tend to agree.  But having said that, I don't think we can base much off the Concordia game.  I have to assume that Wayne state's athletes are superior, and Concordia's plan to press defensively only accentuated the athletic disparity.  I wouldn't be pissed off about a 30-point win over WSU.  It would be a good thing to see them get a lot of time running the half court sets.

I think the team will inevitably struggle a bit once they hit good competition and look bad in at least one of the out of conference games.  But hopefully they can beat either Duke or Arizona.  Obviously McGary's ability to play will play a huge role in how successful they are against those elite teams.  I hope Mitch can play against Duke since they were one of his recruiting finalists and it would probably mean something to him to beat them.  Let's hope he's doing lots of yoga or something.

Wayne State keeps it close and may even have a small lead with a couple minutes to go, but Michigan pulls it out late for a six point victory.

OK, I can't even keep this up without snickering.  Michigan 90-52.

Probably 90-something to 50-something. I bet Wayne State keeps it close for the first quarter of the game but we get a 10-15 pt lead by halftime and blow the doors off in the 2nd half

especially since he recently said that he hopes to be back for Duke.
I further predict that we will see a lot of guys play and at multiple positions.
The big question is: will we see Nik dunk?

I said it wouldn't surprise me if they won the whole thing last year and people thought I was crazy(and I was 5pts from right).  When the NCAA changes the rules because they like the way thay you(and Louisville) play the game, there is a good chance that you'll have a good year.  The only information on McGary is that he insists he will be back for Duke.  Oh...You wanted a Wayne State prediction.  Michigan wins.  By a lot.  If Donnel and Dakich play less than 5 minutes I think Michigan wins by 35.

who predicted a 15 pt Michigan win over WSU.

NAH, just kidding! Michigan should win by 40 pts.  They won't get hot shooting the ball like they did against Concordia, but should win in a very comfortable margin.

Over/Under 10 times: Announcers saying "Nik is not just a shooter".  I'd go over, but that would be a good drinking game except I'll just die from it.
