That was fun.  Straight up, from tip-off to finish.  Going to be a tough match-up in Arlington against UNC/Kansas.  Hope they celebrate for 24 hours and prepare next week for a good team.  But man, to all the doubters about Michigan facing the vaunted press, to hell with ya!

Meh, closer than you think.

The best part is that you get to tell your friends about it...but let's been honest, you don't know what you're doing until you're well into college.

Even college is overrated compared to those 4 years post-college. At least I hope it is for you guys.

Anyway, Michigan won...now THATS better than anything.

That was the best they have looked all season, and yet Stauskas didn't have his shot and Burke turned it over seven times. If it all comes together at the same time...

It is true, but we are one of those teams and that is huge. When hoping for an improbable sports result, I've found that it is much more likely when the improbable team has shown at some point that they are capable of playing the game at the level required for success. It is much more futile when you are hoping to see a level of play that has not yet occurred.

Michigan has shown that it is capable of playing with and beating the best. There is reasonable hope that they can produce and sustain that level of play again. Contrast this with Michigan's hope to compete with Alabama in football last year.

I had an epiphany at halftime. The nice thing about playing a press team like that is this: When you're blowing up the press, they have nothing to fall back on.  What are they going to do, not press?  Okie dokie then.  Shaka Smart had a couple wrinkles that gave us trouble on the first few possessions of the second half, but once Beilein made his adjustments and the players figured out what not to do, VCU was out of ammo.

I recalled the 1990 Loyola Marymount - UNLV game

When you can get up-and-down the floor faster than the pressing team, handle the pressure, finish, and make good decisions when it's not there, it turns into shooting-fish-in-a-barrel.

I bet the committee thought this would be an entertaining, up-tempo matchup.  I certainly was rivited to the screen.  But the committee really screwed VCU, which would have caused havoc for a number of other teams..

Just looked at the stats.

Glenn Robinson III had a really quiet game and was far overshadowed by McGary.  But his numbers were fantastic for the 2nd game in a row.

7-10 for 14 pts.  9 Rebs.  2 assists.  0 TO's.  Made great decisions and made VCU pay for pressing.

Young team handled a lot of pressure. More of that next week, please. I loved the comparison of McGary to Laimbeer and Cowens. Laimbeer was the most annoying center ever. He would score in the lane, had an outside shot, and set rock solid picks. Cowens was an energy player. Mitch is in good company and loved his play today. A good big is a good thing.

I thought the Bill Lamberie (sp?) reference in the game was quite apt. Plays with a nasty streak and high energy. Of course, sans Bill's propensity to be a totally dirty (full disclosure coming from a Bulls fan) and pick fights.

Nice to be first up when you win!  Looking forward to watching the next 7 games.

Also nice to play like that when you are the only game on.

My freshman year (07-08), the team literally was sitting on the Diag begging people to watch a game.  It's a trip to think about what we have accomplished in Belien's time here.

I knew GR3  had a good game, I didn't realize it was a GREAT game:

14 pts   (7/8 on 2s, 0/2 on 3s)

9 boards

2 assists

2 steals

0 TOs

Did the "Havoc" get the flu from Akron on Thursday?

I don't think we even played our best game (except for McGary).   We missed a ton of open 3s and small easy buckets.  If we shot like we usually do, this would have been over before half.

A Great win.  And i can't wait for Barkley to eat his words about the B1G being overrated.

now who do we want to win tomorrow?  Kansas or UNC?

I'm pulling for UNC because I think we match up better against them.
