Michigan vs. VCU Postgame (snowflakes) Thread
You must not have watched vintage Chicago Bulls playoff games when MJ and Pippen played together.
Who is this McGrary they were keep mentioning on TV???
He averages 21 points and shoots over 90% from the field (10/11). He also sets a decent screen.
That was fun. Straight up, from tip-off to finish. Going to be a tough match-up in Arlington against UNC/Kansas. Hope they celebrate for 24 hours and prepare next week for a good team. But man, to all the doubters about Michigan facing the vaunted press, to hell with ya!
1- Michigan Basketball win... CHECK
2- Michigan Hockey win... PENDING
3- Get laid at prom tonight... PENDING
Good luck though. I didn't get laid at prom, but I got drunk for the first time so it was a wash.
that wasn't a wash. . .
Meh, closer than you think.
The best part is that you get to tell your friends about it...but let's been honest, you don't know what you're doing until you're well into college.
Even college is overrated compared to those 4 years post-college. At least I hope it is for you guys.
Anyway, Michigan won...now THATS better than anything.
Use protection. We don't need a little one running around.
I thought it was at the end of the school year?
Jeez, high school was so long ago.
Wrap it up.
We were in the Thursday/Saturday pod while KU/NC are in the Friday/Sunday. When's our game next week?
Yes, I answered my own question. Thanks, internet!
That was the best they have looked all season, and yet Stauskas didn't have his shot and Burke turned it over seven times. If it all comes together at the same time...
Isn't that true for ~15 teams in the country? I feel like any elite team has the talent, effort, coaching, etc. to win it all. In a single elimination tournament, the one that wins is whoever gets lucky enough to get everything together at the right time.
Michigan has shown that it is capable of playing with and beating the best. There is reasonable hope that they can produce and sustain that level of play again. Contrast this with Michigan's hope to compete with Alabama in football last year.
I had an epiphany at halftime. The nice thing about playing a press team like that is this: When you're blowing up the press, they have nothing to fall back on. What are they going to do, not press? Okie dokie then. Shaka Smart had a couple wrinkles that gave us trouble on the first few possessions of the second half, but once Beilein made his adjustments and the players figured out what not to do, VCU was out of ammo.

I recalled the 1990 Loyola Marymount - UNLV game
(UNLV 131 LMU 101)

When you can get up-and-down the floor faster than the pressing team, handle the pressure, finish, and make good decisions when it's not there, it turns into shooting-fish-in-a-barrel.
I bet the committee thought this would be an entertaining, up-tempo matchup. I certainly was rivited to the screen. But the committee really screwed VCU, which would have caused havoc for a number of other teams..
that is all
Just looked at the stats.
Glenn Robinson III had a really quiet game and was far overshadowed by McGary. But his numbers were fantastic for the 2nd game in a row.
7-10 for 14 pts. 9 Rebs. 2 assists. 0 TO's. Made great decisions and made VCU pay for pressing.
Michigan by 1.
I think VCU would fare reasonably well in the B1G.
But not against UM.
Nice to be first up when you win! Looking forward to watching the next 7 games.
Also nice to play like that when you are the only game on.
I need a pic of the McGary Screen of Death.
My freshman year (07-08), the team literally was sitting on the Diag begging people to watch a game. It's a trip to think about what we have accomplished in Belien's time here.
If memory serves, that was the year where there were literally only like 140 student season ticket holders, and were bribing us with free pizza to get people to show up. They were selling the bleacher tickets to the general public. The whole thing was sad.
I knew GR3 had a good game, I didn't realize it was a GREAT game:
14 pts (7/8 on 2s, 0/2 on 3s)
9 boards
2 assists
2 steals
0 TOs
Did the "Havoc" get the flu from Akron on Thursday?
I don't think we even played our best game (except for McGary). We missed a ton of open 3s and small easy buckets. If we shot like we usually do, this would have been over before half.
A Great win. And i can't wait for Barkley to eat his words about the B1G being overrated.
now who do we want to win tomorrow? Kansas or UNC?
I'm pulling for UNC because I think we match up better against them.
